Re: The SleepEasy Thread

  • @EmSue412‌ They should be up 2.5 hrs before bed time.

DS's bedtime is 6:30 so I make sure that nap ends no later than 4 which means nap 2 has to end at 1 so he is down for nap 3 by 3:30.

  • Hopping on the sleep easy train. I put him down 45 minutes ago and he is still crying. This is hard!

Night one is the worst. Be consistent!

Thanks @katekat8721‌ for your support!! Nap two wasn't as great, but not awful. Took 36 mins to fall asleep but only needed one check in. Then she slept for 42 minutes.

I think I remember reading about some ladies saying they thought the check ins at nap amped baby up more. I think that happened today. May have to see how it goes next time.

Also, what's your cut off for attempting the third nap? Bedtime is 8:30. She woke up from nap 2 at 3:30. I'm definitely going to attempt one today, but I'm curious what you all do?

You're doing great! It is SO f-ing hard but seriously so worth it. Good luck!

  • Thank you @mrsmountainmama‌! She fell asleep in 12 minutes tonight (night 2) but now woke up crying only an hour later!!! What the heck! Horrible.

  • hey ladies, this has been going great for almost 2 weeks but tonight it seems he has regressed.  he was up crying 2 hours after bed and hasnt stopped.  it has been 45 mins so far.  has this happened to you all?

  • I'm getting this book tomorrow, reading it and starting on Dec 26th. I have waited far too long and my inconsistency is really screwing things up for my baby, myself and my marriage! I need a plan!

  • Night one was ok. He cried for 50 minutes before falling asleep. It was hard, he has never cried that much before. We woke him twice for his night feedings and he went down easy with just a squawk or two, no real crying. He woke up 15 minutes early and I went and got him. He was sort of fussing so that might not have been the smartest.

He had a night poo between the last check in and first feed which sucked. I changed him after his first feed but he stayed pretty sleepy. My questions:
    1. For those who night weaned did LO stop soaking their diaper overnight? Hoping that once he stops eating so much at night he will pee less. I don't think we can make it 11 hours without a diaper change now.
    2. Has anyone not has success with sleep easy? Just curious.

LO is not a bad sleeper but he needs to learn self soothing and we have to wean his night feeds. We also don't have a consistent schedule and he would only sleep 8 or 9 hours at night.

  • @whoberry‌ I did notice this morning that LO's diaper was not nearly as wet as usual.

  • well, last night was awful.  full regression.  we stuck with the check-ins, but finally picked him up at 430 after he was crying for over an hour.  he had never cried that long before.  fed him and he was starving.  when i put him down last night he didn't get a full feed because he was exhausted and i couldn't keep him awake.  i hope it this was an anomaly due to the amount of family in town and over stimulation....

i know the book talks about travel but it doesnt go into great detail.  anyone have success or tips for travelling?  we are going away for 9 days from west coast to east coast.  i think its too many days to keep him on the west coast time zone.  would love to hear what worked and didn't work for you all!

  • Nap 1 went well today. We haven't really been able to follow the book for naps yet because my mom watches her during the week while we're at work and does a mix of SE and whatever the hell she wants lol. LO cried for 20 mins but then slept for an hour and ten mins! This is crazy for us because before today she would only nap in long stretches for my mom but would do 20-30 min blip naps for DH & I. Hoping the rest of the day goes this well.

We're actually just about to do the opposite (east -> west). As we haven't successfully done it yet, I can only tell you that DH suggested that we bump his bedtime back by 15min each night leading up to travel. We've done that until now LO goes to bed at 9 our time, which will be 7 when we travel. He still stays in his crib for 11 hours, so thankfully that part hasn't backfired yet.

Then again, we're coming on to the 6mo growth spurt so it could all go to hell anyway.

We when traveled over thanksgiving we gave in and just fed him during the night. We had to re-train when we got home but it only took one night.

  • So great @babygabe614‌! Good luck traveling @lola4411. No tips from me - our family is all in town.
  • @charsamm So is the feeding at 1:15 or 2:30? I would weaning by doing an hour before the earliest usual wake time. So probably 12:15 if I'm reading your post correctly.
  • Ugh, guys, we're struggling here. After the first few days I thought things were going well but since then, DS is completely all over the map. I STed almost 3 weeks ago and have remained consistent with my response to his crying and yet he still goes down and cries many nights, still wakes up and cries in the MOTN often and his naps are all over the place. He was taking 2 hour naps for a few days and then 30-45 min naps. I just don't get it and it's so upsetting that he's still crying so often. Did anyone else have an experience like this? Did their LO ever settle into the routine and stop crying?? It's so disheartening.
  • Yuck @cece673. I'm so sorry this is happening! Could teeth be the culprit? Have you tried motrin before bed?
  • @nunzchucks I think he could definitely be teething (red cheeks, tons of drool, gnawing ferociously on everything) but we were just at the ped and she said she doesn't see anything coming in imminently. But they could still be bothering him right? Maybe I'll try motrin and see if it helps. Thanks!
  • hey ladies, I hope you are all having a great holiday!

we are night 3 of our vacation and sleeping has gone terribly.  we are on the east coast so we are suffering through the 3 hour time change from the west.  on top of over-stimulation from family and friends and naps being non-existent, our sleep easy baby is miserable.  he is crying incessantly at night, wide awake in the middle of the night and feeding/rocking are the only things that calm him down.  not to mention my family doesn't understand why we are letting him cry for 5-10 mins at a time.  sorry to complain, but this is really difficult :(

  • I'm sorry @lola4411. Travel is so hard when they are little :(
  • Our naps have been totally thrown off due to holiday travel, overstimulation, etc. I think we will be starting from scratch in that dept today...

We had the same thing happen when we traveled for Thanksgiving. I ended up letting DD sleep with me and side-nursed her all night. When we got home, her sleep went back to normal after a night or two.
  • Did anyone have a sleep regression when introducing solids? We started this week and she has been waking up really early. Not sure if the two are related.
  • @nunzchucks @CAMag thank you for your support :)

@Jenn111211 that is exactly what I have been doing.  I never really co-slept before but it is the only thing that keeps him asleep!  I am so happy to hear that the schedule returned when you all got home.  thank you :)

  • Hello ladies, happy holidays. I've been religiously following this thread and am very happy to see your success and the support on this forum. My challenge is night weaning. Dd has very random wake ups and I'm very tired. I'm hoping to night wean all but 2 feeds during in the coming week. Anyone done that? Dd was not quite 15 lbs at her 6 month. Another question is she can flip to her belly, but not to her back. She sleeps better on her back. I know it is better to let them figure it out. But is that also the case when they are fully rolling over? Thanks a lot for this thread and your responses.
  • Correction. Not fully rolling over. #:-S
  • @sisaw You really should wean all night feedings and just institute a dream feed before you go to bed, according to the book.

Once they can roll back to belly, the worry about them having issues has passed. DS was a late roller, too. We went in to flip him for about three - four days/nights when he would get frustrated after 3-4 min and not go back to sleep. I made sure we did a lot of floor time during waking hours and now he will flip no issue when he wants.
  • We've had a lot of success with naps today. 24 minutes into second nap and I stayed strong and did not pick him up... Normally I rescue him... and he slept for two hours. I just put him down and he cried for about three minutes and fell asleep... The real test will be tonight as I am so tired that I get frustrated with his crying and frequent wake ups I pull him into bed with me and nurse him all night. He's 7 months and well over 15 pounds so I know he is doing this out of habit. I really need him to start sleeping well and in his own bed... I hope it goes well!!

  • Night #1 here (finally) and this is so hard! DD went down at 6:45 and would cry for a few minutes, stop for a few minutes, then cry for a few minutes but never to the 5 minute mark. So I only went in once when it reached 5 minutes. She would be quiet for up to 30 minutes at a time and then cry for 2-3 minutes. Anyway, she went to bed for good around 8:30. Now she's up at 1:30 and doing the same thing. I'm staying strong though! Will report back in the morning. Thank you so much for giving me the courage to do this! She had gotten so bad and even though it sucks to listen to her cry I feel like I can already see the light at the end of the tunnel.

  • Thank you @nunzchucks‌. I'll continue working on floor time. I just have to believe that she will be ok with one dream feed and see what happens.

I read the book again and could not tell. How firm must you be in sticking to the same wake up and bedtime? Can it vary by 30/60 mins day to day as long as 11 hrs is maintained? Some evenings she wants to go to bed after just 90 mins.

  • We were doing so good for weeks of him sleeping 11 hours straight, napping great and on schedule and now the past 2 weeks he's been getting up through the night to eat and now today his nap is almost impossible. Any suggestions on why he started getting up to to eat again?

  • Both kids spent the night at my ILs last night. Toddler will be fine, she's stayed there before. I figured if charlie woke up, being a once off, I'd rather have him comforted if necessary. Hoping he slept well and it won't make tonight harder. He's been doing really well, even through a nasty cold. Only one night with multiple wakeups.

  • @sisaw We try to hit bedtime within 15 min, otherwise DS wakes up too early.
  • @HakunaMatata04‌ For us, the only reason either kid gets up is teething pain or sickness.
  • @flojo973 That is awesome!!!
