What are you hoping for?

Re: What are you hoping for?

  • I really want to have a natural birth in a hospital.

I had my first appointment this week and discussed my plan with my doctor as well as discussed her position on certain things, like induction. She said she induces at 41 weeks. That doesn't sit well with me. I've actually been a little stressed by it. I have a strong feeling I'll go over 40 weeks because based on my cycles I ovulate late and we are using my LMP for the EDD. I feel like if I have to get induced it's going to be all down hill from there and a natural birth will be out of the question.

I was induced at 40w exactly because my water broke and labour never started, and honestly it wasn't terrible. I didn't plan to have a natural birth, just a go with the flow and do what felt best. I had IV pain meds in the last few hours and it was great. Inductions don't always lead to interventions and you can still have the birth experience you want.

  • DS was a water birth in a free standing birth center. He was very nearly a roadside in my doulas mini van baby. Labor and delivery were insanely fast for a first baby.

This time we are doing a planned home birth with the same midwife who caught my son. She does only home visits throughout the whole pregnancy. I love it
  • We have no birthing centres here, or regulated midwife practice, which is very unfortunate. So, short of getting on a plane or ferry to travel to somewhere more progressive, hospital with an OB it is (and not necessarily my OB -- whichever OB is working when I deliver).

So, that many decisions are basically made for me. I want to give an epi-free birth a shot for sure, but will try not to lay a guilt trip on myself if I opt for an epi in the moment. As long as I have a healthy baby in the end, that's fine with me. :)

This! I was induced with DD, IV fluids and antibiotic because I had tested positive GBS but no epidural, no c-section and minimal tearing.

  • Hoping for a med-free birth in a hospital with my CNM. There are 2 midwives and 2 OBs in the practice and I *think* one of each is always on call. I am really hoping that the MW I've been going to for 2 years is the one there when I go into labor. I just love her.

  • OB at the hospital 5 miles from our house. My plan is to go med-free this time. I was 7cm when I got the epi with my dd, so I'm motivated to go all the way this time!

I also didn't go to the hospital right away last time and labored at home. That was so helpful! Hoping I can do that again!
  • At the hospital with ob.. Other than that I have no clue. My sister had 3 precipitous labors (one lasting only 45 min)... She swears I can do it w/o meds.. But 12-18 hours of labor is a totally different story than an hour and a half (her longest).. I'm open minded and just want a healthy baby
  • Hoping for a vbac with ob. Was told at my first appointment that the conditions of my first delivery make it much less likely to be successful with future vaginal attempts (I had a lip that would never dilate so I never got fully to 10, ds never dropped out of 0 station), but they would let me try.

  • I still have a lot of research to do but I really like the idea of a water birth. I'm seeing a midwife that I get along with great that was helping me get pregnant. So I will go to one of the hospitals in the area that she works with. They have the tubs and if she thinks I'm a good candidate I may try it. Otherwise I'm just go gonna with the flow. There are a lot of hospitals around here and they are getting competitive even advertising deluxe birthing suites/ receiving rooms with room service, extra bed, fancy furnishings, etc.
  • Natural hospital birth with an OB. I considered a birthing center but H said he would feel much more comfortable in a hospital. He's usually very "Whatever you want is fine" so I figured if he felt strongly enough to state a preference that I could compromise. Our hospital does offer birthing tubs so I definitely want to try that!

  • Repeat c/s.

And please stop using the term "natural birth" to mean unmedicated.

I agree. That was the worst.

  • I'll be in a hospital with an OB due to complications with my DS. I'd love a home birth or at a birthing center, but I'll be at a hospital. I'd like to try and do it without an epidural, but the more I think about it, the more I remember that pain!
  • Hospital with an ob. Drugs or no drugs...whatever I can handle when the time comes I guess.
  • @monkeydilla: Totally this. I probably will want an epidural, I don't know if our local hospital has the low-dose or patient controlled ones but that sounds good. However, all that is dependent on anesthesiologist availability.

  • With my Ob at one of our local hospitals. I want to have an epidural this time, didn't with the last two.

  • I am hoping for a med-free birth in a hospital after laboring in a tub, which is how I gave birth the first two times and it worked well for us.  However, I'm willing to make changes if necessary for the health of the baby or me.
    Married 2008 - DD 2010 - DS 2012 - Team Green due July 1st!
  • I would love to just go into labor on my own and go from there. if I'm induced again, I'll go as long unmedicated, knowing that an epi is not out of the question. Pitocin is the devil.

  • My dream birth is just to go into labor on my own! My first 2 were induced late and my 3rd was induced early due to cholestasis.

This is, probably, my last baby and I would like to experience going into labor just ONCE!

Realistically, I'm hoping for a healthy pregnancy and a hospital delivery with my OB. I'll happily take the epidural so that I can take a nap and relax before the "Big Show".

  • Midwife at a hospital. I would love to try med free..but my first 2 I had the epi and will probably end up with it again.

  • We are super happy with our ob and are planning a hospital birth!
  • At the good ol' Naval Hopsital with an OB and an epidural.
  • Hospital with the same OB who delivered DS. I hope I go into labor without induction, since I was just informed I will be induced at 40 weeks due to high risk factors. Had the epi last time at 6cm and will try again this time to go as long as I can handle without the meds.
  • I hope my epidural works this time. Both of my previous deliveries, epidural did not work due to a "nerve issue" in my spine? Idk I just hope it works this time.
  • It will be a water birth with no medical intetventions, if all goes according to plan. I had two very easy births so far with no meds, so God willing, this will be too.

The hospital across the street - ranked to be in the top 100 hospitals in the USA. No epidural or IV. As natural as I can make it. My husband and my mom by my side. She is a midwife, so will keep an eye on things.
