Naps During the Day, Screams at Night - Help!

Help for the sleep deprived, please! (Well, aren't we all?) At six weeks, like a light switch, DS started sleeping 6-8 hours at night. It was amazing. Then last week, same thing, out of nowhere started refusing to sleep in the rock n play, where he'd always slept, so we started the crib. It worked out okay for a few nights. Now he's started crying and wailing to all out screaming, with us going in occasionally to calm him down, until about 2am each night. The crazy thing is he sleeps absolutely fine in the crib swaddled during naps on a schedule throughout the day. I'll put him in there and leave the room and he's fine. But at night it's like he doesn't want to be alone. Any thoughts?

  • No advice really and not sure how old your LO is but July 14 has some great sleeping advice in the 4 month sleep regression thread. It's long but it's worth a read.

  • I had a similar thing withat my LO. At about 4 weeks she started screaming and crying all evening like clockwork around 6pm and would last until 10 or 11pm. I spoke to my pediatrician at her 2 month check up. They refer to it as the "witching hour" and apparently its pretty common although I didn't have it with my first born. There is no reason why some babies do this and there is no remedy but they do grow out of it. My LO stopped around 9 weeks; she's 12 weeks now. Hang in there
  • My first did this for a short time. I just rocked her to sleep and waited about 30 minutes before putting her in the crib. She did fine with that. I also made sure that we stayed on a schedule with naps and bedtime. We always did bath, bottle, sleep at this age. Not always convenient but it is what worked for her.
