I'm not sure if you kids think I GBCB or not. I promise my kids are properly restrained in my vehicle as I travel home.
Just popping in to say the assumptions you guys made are entertaining.
All I'm trying to say is I'm not going to get worked up over shit like that. And if you want to think I learned a lesson or not that's up to you.
Edit: I'm on a 4 day trip/tour of seeing family.
What assumptions were those?
This is what I wondered. But then I realized I didn't care.

But I care, though. Stop being a wretched B
Isn't that what I said with my gif? Nobody cares. I didn't think I could be any clearer that Stoneycakes cares.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,

I have no idea if this is a popular or unpopular opinion, but I am so done with these protesters.
What is the point of people getting randomly violent at cops that had nothing to do with these incidents? And now you're all marching to the bridge to... stop traffic and... be annoying...? Proving... what?
Violence is wrong. But you're conflating two different things. Peaceful protests that disrupt traffic are one thing. The riots were unfortunate but they did accomplish getting the country to talk about some important issues. I know that it's easy to dismiss these protests and the ideas they're presenting, but they're very important issues that deserve attention. As far as what they're accomplishing I can think of a few times in our nations history that disrupting traffic got some shit done.
I'm not trying to pile on but there's more to this than you realize.

Stiney, I'm trying to NAK right now. You're lucky I didn't just call you Nobody again.
What part of your body are you typing with because it's clearly not your hand.
Well I did that one on purpose, in case you missed the genius of my subtleties.
I am, in fact, typing with my other boob though. I just kind of flop it down onto my iPad and hope the shattered screen doesn't do any permanent damage.

You're not piling on, I was offering a UO, and you're rebutting it.
Only time will tell if this one remains peaceful, but innocent cops keep getting hurt as a result of these (at one time) peaceful protests.

ditto times 5. There are also a lot of cops who have gotten violent towards and killed innocent people...just sayin.

That's really unfortunate. I hate to hear about officers getting injured. It was an act of a few people at a much larger protest, though. if that's your take away or the headline than i think that says a lot about what the problem is.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
Disrupting traffic is one thing but shutting down a major highway, like happened near San Francisco...that's just a-hole move.
They're lucky nobody died in traffic waiting for their protest to break up.
WSS.
I don't consider blocking the bridge to be "peaceful" for exactly this reason. If an ambulance needed to get through, it would be a big problem. Heck, it barely happens when there's not a crowd of people on the bridge.
Obviously protesting and getting people to talk about important issues is essential to creating change. But I don't know why blocking the Brooklyn bridge would be the only way to make that happen. The news outlets are so desperate for stories, they would be covering it just as hard if there were ten people standing on a hill with the same agenda.

im not really articulate enough to explain the issues involved. I think I used To be once upon a time, but no more. I blame the kids. If you're willing to do some reading on your own I think you might realize that your comments are really privileged and naive. I'm not saying that to pick a fight or anything, but just as a statement of fact.

They are fighting for a whole lot of people who have been wrongly killed. So the whole "someone innocent could die" thing is a little late. It happens all the time. That's the problem.
I'm not sticking up for the people who did something wrong in the first place... but hurting more people in reaction to being hurt is not the right thing to do. Sorry.
And @Rrrrrachel , you wouldn't be making "a statement of fact" if you weren't trying to pick a fight. You know nothing about me. But that's ok, you win.

I am not one to say that violence is ever the answer. But you have to admit that our white privileged society isn't going to change without it. If writing to your congressperson was going to make change happen here it would have happened ages ago.
So what do you suggest people do that might actually get people to not only listen but change their behavior?
People need to be educated. Most privileged white people have no idea how deeply engrained the oppression of black people is in our country. White Americans just plain do not understand cumulative disadvantage. If they had a better understanding, both sides would be able to have more constructive conversations.
As far as the uneducated are concerned, they turn on the news and they see riots, violence, protests, property disruption, people disrupting traffic (protesting being well within their rights), and it only deepens the divide.
I would never suggest that they are not justified in feeling frustrated, angry, hopeless... but these mass public displays of noncompliance are not the way to reach the individuals whom they are trying to reach. It makes it worse.
Do I have the perfect answer? Obviously I wouldn't be sitting here on TB if I knew how to change the face of racism. But I know people need more education, and I also know that violence and even peaceful protests are not the best ways to change minds.

@Smallllmin it's not actually about you. But I think it's important when you hear people talking in a way that's completely ignorant of social justice issues to call it what it is. I'm really not trying to pick a fight with you but I feel it's important to stand up and at least say "no, that's not how it is." Just like I would if I heard someone talking about how a woman who was sexually harassed in a work place couldn't take a joke and why was she making a big deal out of it and causing so much trouble.

Nobody condones violence. But you're lumping everyone at the protest in with the tiny fraction who were violent. How is that any better than lumping all police officers in with the ones who use excessive force? Do you realize that a black man is twenty one times more likely to be shot in an interaction with police than a white man? The catch phrase "black lives matter" isn't just over dramatic or hyperbole. Sorry some people had to sit in traffic.
You're being willfully ignorant.
