  • She's been sleeping since we got home at 11:30 (but ate twice in that time frame then went back to sleep). Is this bad news for our night or will she maybe just sleep forever because of the shots?

  • We are getting ready for a nine day holiday road trip and I feel like I'm packing for the apocalypse! DS is going thru a growth spurt, eating 5 oz at a time, so as an EPer, I find myself hooked up to a machine hoping that DS will let me finish my pumping session so I can keep up. Went to meet DH for lunch at work and he got caught up with work so DS and I sat in the parking lot for 30 minutes, only to have to turn around and go home. Blah.

  • Ugh. LO was sleeping and DH and DS1 are at the grocery store, so I thought I'd get some painting done on DS' Christmas present. Figured it'd be just fine to stay in the outfit I was wearing (brand new shirt, took tags off today). Got paint on the sleeve!!! Anyone know how to get it off? I immediately went to the sink but it apparently dried on the way there. :/

Oh no! I have no idea but I hope someone knows how to get it out.

  • @emerald27 what kind of paint?

Does anyone else's kid refuse a boob some days?? I have been fighting with DD all day but she will not latch on my right. We've changed positions, locations, changed clothes, tried gas drops, pump/hand express and then latch...what gives???

I'm not sure what kind of paint it is...and I'm under a nursing baby at the moment. It's regular wall paint from Home Depot that has a sort of glossy finish. :P DH built DS a play kitchen, and I'm trying to get it painted so that we can do the backsplash and install the sink, glue burners, and attach knobs and hooks before Thursday! :-SS

Nursing strike! Lots of skin to skin, maybe take a warm bath together, and try to nurse when she's sleepy, asleep, or just waking. That helps them move past it faster.

ETA: Oh! It's just on the right. Does she have a cold? Could be congestion. Nursing with her as upright as possible, and nursing in the bathroom with the door shut and hot shower running can help. Also babies sometimes refuse one breast when they have an ear infection. Watch out for fussiness and fever.

Try football hold and side-lying, and do the things suggested for a regular strike. Pump if she's not taking that breast, to maintain supply and prevent plugs.

  • Busy day at work so I drove by love titting today. Hugs all around! Even my pain in the ass students were happy to have me back today. (I see different classes every other day). Very happy Dh is taking off next Monday so we can go to my extended family Christmas party on that Sunday

  • Guys. DH is better and held the baby while I took a 2 hour nap after work. Thank the good Lord, I'm human again and I didn't kill anyone today. I'm a touch concerned by some rumblings in my tummy, but I'm choosing to believe it is just gas.

  • @emerald27 thanks, I got her to latch finally!

Re your shirt: since the paint is already dry, your best bet is probably white spirit, to dissolve the paint. However, it might bleach the fabric. You could also try dish soap, warm water and scraping the shirt gently but firmly with a butter knife. Good luck! I have gotten house paint on more clothes that I should have.. haha.

Thank you!!! I'll try the dish soap and butter knife, because the shirt is dark purple, and bleaching it would just make it look worse. Live and learn, right?

    Hem the sleeves?
The sleeves go just down to my elbows. I forget what that's called...not sure that would work, but it's a great idea for future shirts I ruin (because, you know, I would make the same mistake again).

  • Oh and things I wanted to say from earlier!

@monstomommy all the TP to your DH! Washing bottles/pump parts is how I make mine help with feeding.

@famousea I'm not sure I see the need for formula...I would def. ask about using pumped breastmilk instead.  3% to 1% is not a huge percentile drop - I would also look at the daily weight gain, and if it has been above 0.5 oucnes/day or 4 oucnes/week, I'm not sure I would do anything differently. I would consider seeking the advice of an IBCLC.
    @theresat858

I'm curious, at what percentile or how far off a chart would the LO have to be, if gain is still above 0.5 ounces/day or 4oz/week, before you started supplementing?

    ------------------
It's important to remember that regardless of a child's position on the percentile chart, the important thing is how well they're gaining and maintaining that percentile (or thereabouts).

Theresa may have a different answer, but in my experience, if a child is off the chart by more than a few percentage points, there's usually an underlying medical condition that makes the child very small.

So baby can be very small percentile-wise and not require supplementation, as long as he maintains his percentile by gaining adequately for his age.

It's when kids drop off in percentiles, not when they start low and stay low, that their intake needs to be assessed. And baby still may not need to be supplemented. Perhaps he has been put on a feeding schedule that doesn't meet his needs or is in some sort of stressful environment. Solving those issues can be all it takes to get baby gaining appropriately.

Candy, scarf or gloves, Starbucks gift card, travel mug, picture frame (with your picture if you want to be funny)

ETA: a game like uno or something from the board games section would be cool, or a toy, like a mini Lego set or something.

ETA2: headphones, inexpensive DVD, iTunes gift card, eos Chapstick...

I spent my day off at the pedi and then getting the stuff for Kasey's breathing treatments. RSV sucks and the breathing treatments are torture. I really wish there was an easier way because it breaks my heart seeing him scream like that while we do the treatment.

Ds1 had Rsv and it sucked. I feel like every time he gets sick now it goes straight to his lungs and we have to do breathing treatments. Do you have the face mask? Ds didn't like it but tolerated the tube in front of his face to just breath in.
