sick or pass out?

27 weeks today and drove stepdaughter to school, 10 min away. after I dropped her off, felt like barfing and got very hot. 2 min from home my vision went blurry, I was sweating, I was hot and cold. I barely made it home and thought I was going to pass out. called dr and she said this happens - eat more protein and drink more water. thought it was my sugar so had some oj and also pb on toast. I feel much better but I am concerned that it will happen again. anyone else experience this??

Re: sick or pass out?

  • I see stars at least 1-2 times per week... and I'll have random moments where I feel a little light headed. I drink some water and it goes away. I'd make sure to keep properly hydrated, and to eat a small something regularly. If it keeps happening I'd call your dr again.

  • I get that way after every shower... for me it's low blood pressure/sugar issues probably. MW wasn't concerned at my last appt.

  • I feel that way when my blood sugar gets low. The fact the you felt better after eating makes me think that's probably your issue, too. I always carry snacks with me- almonds and dried fruit, protein bar, etc- something with a balance of carbs and protein.

  • I feel that way sometimes too.
Since eating and drinking helped. Low blood sugar is probably your problem. Try eating and drinking more frequently.
  • I agree with the others. Try to keep a small snack with you at all times. I feel yucky when my blood sugar drops. A snack always helps

  • Yeah, that happens. Try to keep a snack with you and make sure you are getting enough to eat and drink througout the day. 3 meals a day won't cut it for me, I pretty much graze off and on all day now.

  • It's been happening a lot to me too and I actually passed out teaching my first period class 2 weeks ago. They sent me to the hospital because my blood pressure was low and the ob's there said it kept happening because my body was releasing surges of progesterone. They said it will probably keep happening for a while, but hopefully my progesterone levels would even out in the third trimester. It's not dangerous... just annoying!

  • I went to the OB ER two weeks ago for this. Turns out my iron is low and I was dehydrated. Nothing else was wrong. This is a pretty common pregnancy symptom I guess. :(
  • There were several times I felt really lightheaded and really exhausted and I would run an errand and feel like I climbed a mountain. As everyone said, make sure you are drinking plenty of liquids and eating plenty.

For me, I found out my iron was low at my last appt this week which was I felt like I was going to faint and whatnot, so you may want to add some high iron foods to that protein.

  • Wow! Something similar happened to me yesterday. I was waiting for my boss in the car and out of no where I felt like I was going to faint and throw up (Good thing I was sitting down already). Then it feels like my body started to heat up. So I took off my jacket, rolled down the window, and hung out the window for some air and felt better. Ok, good to know it's normal and possibly happen again.
