So, DS just got a gift from his daycare! They gave all the kids a paperwhite bulb in a little plastic pot, wrapped with colored paper and a cute little ribbon. This would be an easy gift to make, especially if you're like me and keep pots to re-use.

    I don't get it.
    A paperwhite is a flower.

  • This is what came from daycare. I'm seriously excited to show DS how to water this and watch it grow. We don't have much in the way of indoor plants in our current place, so this will be a bit of a novelty for him.
  • OMG @Stoneycakes!  One of my coworkers just did the cutest gift.

    1) Decorated coffee mugs with oil-based sharpie markers, bake to set the paint.

    2) Put cocoa mix, crushed peppermints, and mini-mini marshmallows inside of those clear glass Christmas tree ornaments.

    3) Also made a sugar scrub and put it in a pretty glass jar, but that might be a bit much for YH's coworkers.

I had never seen the cocoa stuff inside the ornaments, it was adorable!

  • Also I'm betting you could repurpose coffee mugs for this, instead of buying new ones (although you might be able to get new ones really cheap at a restaurant supply store.)  But you could get used ones.  My coworker used black mugs, and painted with silver and gold.  Adorable.

  • When people use big words like ubiquitous, I half expect the lights to start flashing, confetti to fall from the sky, and an odd man in a small checked suit to jump out and yell.

  • Ubiquitous is ubiquitous.
  • So I am going to make those chocolate spoons for some of the adults in the family. I wanted to get those fancy silver plastic spoons so they would look pretty and stuff. But the spoons were only sold in sets with the forks and knives. Walmart sold the knives and forks separately, but not the spoons. Dollar Tree had these smaller spoons, so I got those. Except now I'm worried they're too small, and won't make the coffee chocolate-y enough. Should I get regular plastic spoons, double dip the little spoons, or look for regular sized silver spoons? I don't know why I'm worrying so much about this.

I was mad too that the silver spoons weren't sold separately LOL. I didn't even think about the smaller size not being chocolatey enough, but no one in my family complained. If you don't want to take the time to double dip, you could always add a swirl with a different chocolate or put colored sugar. Don't stress yourself though. They're fun and pretty no matter what!
  • Instead of dipping it and letting the excess drip off you could always scoop it into the chocolate and let a spoonful of chocolate dry in the reservoir.

Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
    It all revolves around you.

This was what I did, but DH said it was kind of hard to get all the chocolate to melt off. Maybe his coffee wasn't hot enough, though.

Who needs it to melt?  And doesn't that just mean you can use it for the second cup of coffee?

DH only drinks one cup of coffee before work in the morning, but he brews a whole pot. He pours the rest in a big half-gallon thermos with a ton of sugar and creamer and drinks it all day. I'm pretty sure this must be about the most disgusting thing ever, especially since I don't drink coffee, or else brilliant since he never has to pay Starbucks prices or suffer through terrible office coffee.

Our office coffee isn't that bad.  But then half of the staff puts a package and a half in the filter when brewing the next pot.
