Speaking of blankets - what to do with receiving blankets?

Between what I had from when DS was a baby and gifts I received for DD I must have close to 20 receiving blankets.

I have not used them at all in a couple of months but before I get rid of all of them I thought I'd ask all of you if there is anything you are still using them for? Would they make good little blankets to put in the crib wih LO once they get a bit older?

This is definitely our last kid so I am
Purging things as they are no longer needed. I just want to make sure there is not a reason to keep these before I get rid of them.

  • Loading the player...
  • We got a ton of these too, and our local baby store has no use for them.  I ended up throwing them out a couple of weeks ago.

If you sew, you can cut then up into large patches and make a quilt out of them?

I literally thought of doing this while reading the OP
  • I keep one in the car for emergencies (spit up, no wipes, etc) and one in the diaper bag as an on-the-go playmat.
  • I like the quilt idea! I don't know that the colors would all go together...
  • Use them as dust cloths?

I tossed most of DD's but now that she's bigger she plays with them and uses them as blankets for her baby dolls.

I literally did not use any receiving blankets with LO. Useless. Those A&A bamboo swaddles, on the other hand, are the shit.

  • Any local church can probably use them. Ours collects things throughout the year for the Mexico mission trips.
  • Mine still barfs several times a day so they are all over my house.
  • Cut them into strips and turned them into dog toys.

  • It depends on the texture but I've cut a lot and use for dust rags, wash cloths, or burp cloths. The real nice ones I've packed away to keep. I actually use a few still.

  • My MIL made a huge quilt out of ours. It is beautiful!! It will last him many years abd even has his name embroidered on it. If you are crafty or know someone who is I highly recommend doing it. I will try and post a pic of it later if I remember.
  • His name is embroidered by the corner and it's almost big enough for a full size bed. I love it!!
