and it just keeps getting better - bleeding???

I have a bladder infection AGAIN. I went to L&D to pee in a cup and get monitored yesterday evening. Fun times. I was contracting but they weren't concerned about it. I now know what contractions feel like. It really was just feeling like I needed to pee honestly. So anyway, I'm on antibiotics and some other med for calming my bladder.

I've still been feeling the contractions today, and just now I thought I needed to poop but apparently didn't need to. I peed, and when I wiped, there was some blood tinged mucous on the TP.

So of course I freaked and called the on call doc, and she said that it wasn't concerning to her that a little blood tinged mucous isn't concerning. She said to call the office in the morning and come in to see my regular doc. She said if I was going to really worry all night to go to L&D and get checkecd out, but she really didnt' think it was a concern. This is the same on call doc who made me go to L&D last night to get the UTI checked out, so I don't think she's just lazy.

So anyway... I'm just wondering if you guys ever had any small instances of bleeding like this? I never had contractions or bleeding or anything with Ben. So this is freaking me out a little. Not sure I want to spend 2 hours at L&D again if I don't need to. But clearly I will if it gets any worse at all or if I start freaking myself out.

What do you guys think?

  • Did they do any poking and prodding at L&D?  That could cause some bleeding.

  • I would think it is from them checking your cervix last night.  I remember that happening to me after interal exams, with Mason.  Sorry you are having such a rotten weekend, hope it gets better.

oh yeah!  I had forgotten about that.   They did check my cervix last night.   Wouldnt' that have caused some bleeding before now though?

But that does make me feel better.. I hadn't thought about that.

  • I had to put the baby to bed but I wanted to come back and send some Left HugRight Hug zombie hugs your way.  Bladder infections suck.

And I didn't quite answer your question.  Yes, I had a bit of bright red blood during my internal exams and for the next 24 hours.  It was freaky but okay.  I declined routine internal exams after that because I wanted to be able to tell if I was actually bleeding in a bad way.

  • I think it could be a little while between the prodding and the blood.  It could take a while for your mucus plug to loosen and then come out.  (And mucus plugs reform.)
  • Sounds to me like it could definitely be from the internal check.  I would monitor it, and if it gets heavier then head into L&D.
  • I think it was around 33 or 34 weeks when I started having some light bleeding accompanied with mucus after my internal exams.    Dr said it was some Mucus Plug, but it would just grow back.

  • I spotted from time to time throughout my entire pregnancy with Will. It was always disconcerting and I usually called the doctor just for peace of mind.

  • I'm voting it's the exam.  Mine always came the next day.

I did bleed a few other times with no reason, though.  The first time I was at L&D and they monitored me, etc.  They never found the cause but they weren't particularly alarmed since it wasn't enough to go through a pad (but it did seem like a light period for a couple of hours, enough to scare me).  Oddly, i happened to be at the hospital for a class anyway.

The next time was at the very end of pregnancy.  They never figured it out, either, but at the end it was just yet another reason/sign that this baby needed to come out.  For that one, though, I originally was excited that I was losing my mucus plug.  Then, when discussing it on the Boards, several folks told me that it didn't sound normal.  My doc agreed the next day and Rose was born 8 hours later.

After three years TTC, four IUI's plus 2 cancelled, MFI (morph, motility, count), maternal age (40 as of 5/12) & former endo, we're moving to IVF spring 2012 (good/avg AMH and FSH). We did beat the odds once, however. DD born after 2 years TTC with clomid and no monitoring at my age 35. Doctors are SHOCKED we were able to conceive. Here's hoping for another miracle.
