Help?

Is it possible that I may have become lactose intolerant since iv become pregnant? the other night I drank some milk before bed and ate some toast with just butter on it I started to feel horrible and ended up throwing it all back up also I ate some Mac and cheese today and I feel the same exact way as I did I know it's not morning sickness iv seen major improvement since moving into my second trimester just curious as to if that's possible as a side note I was lactose intolerant as a baby but my mother told me I grew out of that around the young age of 3 ..

Re: Help?

  • I'm not experiencing this but if you feel like your body is rejecting dairy give dairy a break for a week or so to see how you feel. Pregnancy does all sorts of unusual things for a reason. Listen to your body.

  • Possible I think.
  • I don't see why not - I suddenly can't handle Granny Smith apples (my favorite pre-pregnancy), why should dairy products be exempt from the category of "Foods Baby Hates". Note that if you do cut out dairy (which I would suggest for a week or two and then try again), make sure you're getting your calcium elsewhere.
  • My baby hates bananas, which sucks because I love bananas. Whenever I try to eat a banana, I meet the toilet.

  • With this pregnancy and with my son I can't have any milk products close to bed. I always wake up vomiting. =(
  • A lot of people become lactose intolerant gradually over there lifetimes. But also remember that if your tummy isn't doing well, dairy is certainly not help. Maybe you're feeling better MS-wise, but getting a slight tummy bug.

  • Thanks to all of you !!
  • I know someone who's normally lactose intolerant that can eat all the dairy she wants during pregnancy. I'm sure it can work in reverse too. ;)

  • I am going through something similar! I thought it was just me... I've been running to the bathroom after eating ice cream, creamy sauces, etc. I am completely clueless about why, though!

I drank a milkshake during my first tri with DS1 and had diarrhea for a week. I tested the lactose intolerance theory a few more times with cheese and regretted it every single time.

This is purely anecdotal info, but I say possible.

and how much does it suck that a pregnant lady can't eat ice cream?

  • Dairy does scary things I think. In my first trimester I couldn't stand the smell of milk..

  • I googled this all night last night. All dairy makes me terribly sick, which makes me terribly sad. The same thing happened during my first pregnancy, 9 years ago. Bad news, it stayed with me the entire pregnancy.. Good news, it left after I delivered.
