I always love threads like this, because they give me new titles to add to my Goodreads shelves. So what are you reading right now? Who are your favorite authors? Do you have a favorite genre?

My reading is all over the place. I read more fiction than nonfiction, but am trying to read more nonfiction lately. I used to say Nicholas Sparks, Jodi Picoult, etc. were my favorite authors but I don't really feel that way anymore. I'm loving Dan Brown, James Patterson, John Grisham, etc. at the moment. Some of my favorite recent books include Night Circus, Gone Girl, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and the Private series by James Patterson.
I got in a fiction "rut", though, and decided to pick up a nonfiction book (In the Garden of Beasts). It's good but moves very slow, and it's a pretty big book, so I haven't been very motivated to press on.

I think I'm going to start reading Unbroken (The one about the Olympian who is a WWII POW). I heard the book is much better than the movie and I'd like to read it before I see it. I'm going to California next week for Christmas, so it will be a good in-flight book.
I haven't seen the movie, but the book is really good. When it first came out Amazon had it for free for 2 days for the Kindle and I got it/read it then.

I'm in the middle of 2 audio books: "Insurgent" by Veronica Roth (divergent trilogy) and "Is everyone hanging out without me?" by Mindy Kaling. The first one is dragging, Mindys book is hilarious though.
Recent books that I really liked: Gone Girl, The Art of Racing in the Rain (great for dog lovers!), Bossypants, and Enders Game.
I'm into reading books that become movies but don't have a particular genre, I'm all over the place.
I just added Unbroken and the third of series, called Dust, to my kindle for an upcoming flight.
Wool (#1), Shift (#2) and Dust is an adult dystopian society trilogy. The second in the series was soooooooo good I couldn't put it down! I read the entire 500+ page book in a day and a half! Looking forward to reading the third.
I recently finished The American Heiress and that was really good too.

@jnetx have you read the poison wood bible? One of my favorites!
Oh that sounds really interesting! My dad's family lived in the Belgian Congo during that time. Adds an extra layer of interest for me. I'm adding it to my list!

I'm totally adding some of these to my list, but I'm seriously not reading anything right now, because apparently, reading causes insta-sleep for me. Like seriously, I can't finish 1 page of a book without passing out.
cgiles120812 Mortal Instruments! That's the series. It's been recommended to me so much I started reading it, but seriously, Clary is annoying me and it seems so much like Twilight it hurts.
She can be a little annoying but In my opinion it's better then twilight and it gets better

I just finished The Light Between Oceans and I adored it. Next up is Unbroken before I see the movie and @ifwisheswerefishes's book! Now, if I could only get some time to read...

*puts on hipster glasses* I read Gone Girl before it was cool.
Anyhow...I tend to be more into audio books since I have no time to actually sit and read a book. Right now I'm listening to City of Bones and I am not loving it (her other series: Clockwork Angel started good but the next two were a huge disappointment), I am constantly reading/listening to all sorts of authors ranging from Stephen King to recent young adult authors. I need a good audio book for our trip to PA post-Christmas, might give Wool a try

I don't really have a favorite author or genre...I read whatever I feel like when the mood hits; I'm very random!
@tla0623 DOOO IT! The book is unbelievable. One of my favorites I've read.
I am on book 3 of the Outlander series and I wish I had hurried through them because since the tv show started, they are hard to get your hands on at the library.
FFTC: I still go to the library on the regular. I have no use for e-readers and DS gets a huge thrill getting to check out books.
I need to read the last 2 Alex Cross books still. I have Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn on my list to grab next time. I'm also trying to start the Game of Thrones books series. I've never seen the show.
I just finished reading Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin. I stumbled onto her accidentally with the Something Borrowed series. She's not a super deep writer, but the books are easy reads.
Hoopla is a free mobile app where you can download movies, music, and audiobooks from your library. I just went on and grabbed Peter Pan, Martian Chronicles, and Frankstein audiobooks for my PA trip. Check with your library to see if they offer hoopla. Also I love reading real paper books but sadly ony have time for reading on my Kindle app at work or audiobooks
I decided to read This is Where I Leave You as voted for in the book club message board. I found it to be very negative and it put me in a bad mood just reading it. So I watched the movie before finishing the book and it's way more light hearted. I won't be finishing the book.

Pretty sure even my non-tech-savvy MIL does that. haha. I'm set in my ways.
@catahoulatte Re: Game of Thrones series, don't. Just watch the show, it is MUCH better than the books. (And being a reader and English teacher, I rarely say that). I read the first three, and while those were okay, they slowly get harder and harder to bear. Plus the author is really a douche in relation to his interaction and care for his fans. At least HBO realizes how to please an audience and tries to do it well.
Good to know! I may just do that.
(now to figure out how to watch it without HBO...omg I'm a little old grandma.)
@sepiamoon the divergent series was such a disappointment to me. Loved the first, made it through the second, and I kept trying to get myself to read the third, but just didn't care enough to stick with it. So sad.
Gah, tell me about it! It has taken me forever and I'm barely 1/2 way through the book. It is just not capturing me at all like the first one did. I think I've literally finished 2 other books since I started it.

I love me some smutty, mythical, romance novels.
Mike Mulligan & His Steam Shovel and a bunch of Curious George.
I finished Gone Girl a few weeks ago. Highly recommend.
To city of bones...clockwork angel etc. it was okay...definitely not at the top of my YA list.

Ooooo that sounds good! I need to read that. The book I'm reading right now called ever shade is about faeries and some other things.
Goodnight, California! Sophie's Busy Day, Sophie's Colors, and Peek-a-boo Sophie (as in Sophie the Giraffe)
Wish I had more time...
