Baby Monitor (Motorola vs Summer Infant vs Infant Optics)

I think I've narrowed down my choices to these monitors, any and all recommendations and opinions welcome on which is best!

Motorolla 2.8" MBP41

Summer Infant Slim & Secure 2

Infant Optics DXR-5

Or, AngelCare Baby Sound (AC420) (*This one is just an audio monitor while the rest are video)

Re: Baby Monitor (Motorola vs Summer Infant vs Infant Optics)

  • Read Amazon reviews. When I was looking, motorola was way better than summer infant. Not sure about the other brand. For what it's worth I recommend a snuza over the angel care.

  • Thanks for the rec! I do keep reading recommendations for Motorola, but on BRU the reviews for both Motorola and Summer Infant were 50/50 which confused me a bit and the 2 above seem very similar. Then I would randomly come across great reviews for the Infant Optics. SO many choices for all of these baby products..and they're all so similar.

  • We have the Infant Optics and it's been working great. My friend also has it and she also likes it. I haven't used the other brands so I can't really compare. The video quality is pretty good, even in night vision mode. The audio is sensitive/loud enough for our needs. It only comes with 1 camera but you can connect 4 cameras to it (I haven't tried this feature). We used it almost all day every day for a month or so and had no issues.
  • Motorola.  We have been using ours for almost 3 straight years and it's still working as perfectly as the day we took it out of the package and they have excellent customer service!

We have the 3" screen that you can add up to 4 cameras to.  We currently have 2 cameras.  Our power cord to the parent unit started fraying from the way it was bent when plugged in after about 2 years of use.  I called to see if I could order a new cord and they told me that they didn't sell new cords but that I could order a generic one from Amazon.  I had looked them up and the reviews were horrible so I told them that and asked if there was anywhere that sold a Motorola cord.  She said that even though my warranty was up by quite a bit, she would ship me a new power cord at no charge.  It was at our house the next day.

Also, we've had an older model Angelcare (used with our oldest) and the Snuza (used with our youngest) and I liked the Snuza a thousand times better.
  • Motorola all the way!

But get the MBP36 one with the 3.5 inch screen. Much better. We got the Motorola when out 1st was born almost 3 yrs ago and have ABSOLUTELY LOVED it!! I've been recommending it to all friends. A few months back the cable of the parent unit broke (because we keep wrapping it around the unit so it wore out) and we had to get a replacement one from Radio Shack. It never seemed to charge it properly, or maybe the battery was on it's last legs. Then literally a week before baby #2 was born and we were looking at adding a camera, the sound on ours went out.
Mind you, the thing is almost 3 yrs old and used daily. Motorola sent us a brand new set!!! That was awesome!
We added the 2nd camera and the system works great! Looking forward to another 3 years of good use out of this thing.
  • I had, no joke probably 6 or 7 different Motorola ones because we had SO many problems.  I know people have them and love them but it was seriously ridiculous.  Sounds going out, screen going black, images getting fuzzy over time, battery life, etc.  I switched to the Infant Optics a few months ago after Motorola issued us a final refund and I've been happy. Only issue is that the range isn't as good but I can live with that.  At least the sound isn't going out!

  • Ah @ebp913‌ you scare me! Haha. SO many people have been saying Motorola but then I kept reading bad reviews on Babies R Us and Target. I ended up registering for the Motorola, but if we don't get it at our shower I may consider one of the others for us to buy instead.

Also, it seems every single person with a Motorola has said the cable breaks -some people were very happy with customer service, saying they got a replacement even though warranty was up, while others have said they've been told there was nothing that could be done and they ended up having to buy a whole new monitor!
  • We started out with a Motorola and loved it...until it broke. Ended up returning it to BRU for a summer infant, and so far we really like that one. I would probably buy a Motorola again, but my husband wanted to try something different after our first one had so many problems. Something to keep in mind is that BRU has a 1 year return policy for anything you get off your baby registry. We've returned several things that way, including the Motorola monitor.

Really their customer service was pretty good in that they replaced mine like 6 times but it was just ridiculous that it went on for so so long.  I bought this same monitor for a friend though and they have zero issues.  I am unlucky.

  • We bought a Motorola and after 3 months the sound went out. Buy buy baby replaced it. After 18 months, the picture went out. We have to call the manufacturer now but may be SOL because we stupidly didn't kept the paperwork from when we bought it. If we have to buy another monitor, it will not be Motorola. Just want to try something new given our problems.

  • I've been mostly happy with my motorola but I wish the battery would last longer.  After I put her down for the night I bring it downstairs with me and the cord is upstairs.  It usually dies by the time I go to bed.  I'm not sure if that's the amount of time it's supposed to last or not.  It's too annoying to bring the cord with me every time.  I do keep it plugged in all night while it's next to my bed.
