5 weeks and light cramping and spotting

Hi everyone. I think I'm overreacting but I just thought I'd see if anyone else is/has experienced the same thing. I'm 5 weeks pregnant today and I had some minor cramping earlier followed with a pink discharge when I went to the bathroom. It wasn't enough to be on my underwear or anything just on the toilet paper when I wiped. I called the hospital and the nurse told me to go get blood work done tomorrow and then go see my doctor. I actually have an appointment already scheduled for Thursday but I'm just wondering if I should be going to emergency or trying to move my appointment or what. Is anyone else going through this that could maybe give some more insight? I'm trying not to stress but that's turning out to be nearly impossible.

Re: 5 weeks and light cramping and spotting

  • Unless you are bleeding heavily (i.e. soaking a pad approximately every hour) or experiencing really sharp abdomen pains, do NOT go to the ER. They are not going to be able to do anything about your light spotting and minor cramping except draw blood to check your levels which you already have scheduled. Your doctor will likely check to make sure your levels are doubling every 48 hours and maybe doing a pelvic check to see if there might be any cause for the spotting (like a polyp). Try resting as much as you possibly can till your appointment. I really hope your spotting is nothing - Good luck!

  • Yeah do not go to the ER unless you are filling a pad in an hour. Like the girl above me said, get some rest. Put your feet up and drink lots of water - hydration is key.  I've been spotting a lot and that always helps me!
  • I just turned 6 weeks. The same thing happened to me. Went to my Dr. After bloodwork and the spotting cramping was told is common since ultra sound showed my little pea size baby and heart beat were ok. Rest and lots of water helped me calm down while I waited four days for that appointment. However I was warned if bleeding increased and symptoms mentioned in another post occurred to call Dr. Asap.
