First time checking in for the randoms here. I'm a regular over in Parenting..and since they've done away with randoms threads over there, figured I'll jump in here.
Almost 36 weeks...so the end is near! I have an appt tomorrow for my GBS test and first cervical check. We'll see if anything is happening yet, even though it doesnt indicate much. Although I went early with DS (37w4d) so we'll see when this little guy decides to come.
Other than that...just feeling tired, huge, and ready to have this baby here safe and sound. Sort of wish there was ff button on these last few weeks.
Hey lady. I'm with you on that fast forward button. Glad you decided to check in here.
Had my 36 week appointment today and all looks great! I stressed a little too hard about GBS test and it was nothing... I just didn't know what to expect.
DH called my FIL to tell him about the appointment and they got into it about my MIL watching my niece... He made the comment of "I know you're first time parents, but you don't need to be ridiculous." Needless to say, I was pissed. He then tried to convince DH to go visit my niece and MIL today but obviously DH stood his ground. FIL thinks we're being ridiculous because we can't avoid everyone who is sick- right, but we can avoid the people that we KNOW are sick. He tried telling us that if MIL gets sick from niece she will wear a mask when she comes to visit at the hospital. Nope! She will not be welcome! As it turns out, we toured the hospital today and they have signs everywhere in the birth place about being sick and they told us that if people request a mask, cough, sniffle, or sneeze, they won't be welcome. I will be keeping that tid but to myself
Bad day turned better: there's an Edible Arrangements right down the street from the hospital. DH stopped at my request to get a chocolate covered strawberry. I had no clue they didn't sell them individually, they only do samples. The lady gave us one, knowing we had no intentions of buying a big thing, and then upon seeing my belly she packed an entire bag of samples for me! I almost ugly cried on her!
Yesterday I went to a local owned secondhand store by my doctor's office to look at strollers. The two women behind the counter barely said hello as I walked in, and carried on with their conversation about how slow they've been, how nobody appreciates local businesses, and how everyone just wants new stuff now instead of secondhand. I felt bad for them until I watched them watching me struggling with the all folded up strollers that were stacked against each other and the wall, and made no effort to come help me. When I finally moved the 5 in front of the one I was somewhat interested in, I couldn't figure out how to get it open, and one of the ladies just said "Yeah, those can be tricky, huh?" but didn't come help figure it out. During my struggle to figure out how to open the stupid thing, I also finally found the price tag...it was $95. The brand new equivalent (in "this years" version, this one was probably 1-2 years old and was definitely used, although in good condition) is $125 (plus, Amazon has 25% off on Chicco strollers right now so it is even less). That doesn't seem like a bargain to me at all.
I decided to bail on the strollers and went to check out the rest of the baby gear. All of it was similarly not-awesomely priced. And, sales girls didn't come help at all. When I left (empty handed) they didn't even say "thanks" or "goodbye" or anything.
Maybe I'm just overly bitchy...but if you're really concerned about your business potentially closing, maybe you should do something about it? Like, be nice to customers and have reasonable pricing on second hand items?
I'm all about supporting local/small businesses, but customer service is key!
I'm cleaning house today. Again, I'm ready to start setting something up for baby. I think tomorrow dh and I will make a trip to get the dresser. I really want to shampoo carpets too, but think I'll wait until after we take down the tree at the beginning of January. *Really don't want to move the tree to shampoo *
@LadyXaverian thanks I'd like to check in here more often! I've been doing a shitload of lurking and occasional posting over here lately...shits about to get super exciting round this parts with lots of babies comin!
So I've been MIA lately, and I'm so sorry! Ive missed you guys! I was in a car accident Thursday night (baby girl is fine, and so am I! The vehicle needs $6900 in repairs but that is so minor compared!) and then my in laws came in to visit for DS's birthday weekend.
I've missed you guys and will try to jump back in. Lots of love

Last night we bought the most beautiful Christmas tree ever - it's short (I wanted tiny) but it's almost perfect - round and full and just beautiful. I actually can't wait to decorate it tomorrow night
DH is going out with this co-workers tonight! I get a night of Peggels! And I'm totally eating the last of the ice cream for dinner.
I went to the local convenience store where this woman I know works. She was amazed at how good I look - or so she kept telling me over and over again. Clearly she thinks I always look this huge - either that or she expected me to gain a gazillion pounds. Then she was like "Oh I bet you can't wait to get her out." and argued with me when I said that I was ok if she waited another 6 weeks. Shhhh lady - just be quiet.
When I told DH last night that I was going to run to the store tonight to get some stuff that we need, he did a Peapod delivery for Wednesday night so that I don't have to go to the store. Sometimes he can be very very sweet.
@BookitBoo - So sorry to hear about your accident Glad you guys are okay!!
@Excitedmama2 - This is what happens every time I go to our second hand shop! Bad service and the prices suck. I got my new double stroller on sale for less than what a used one was being sold for. And the hours suck for working parents!!
@Britt1406 - I feel the same way, sort of at least. I am SUPER ready to not be pregnant anymore, but also keenly aware of how much juggling a toddler and newborn is going to suck at times! But most days my readiness to no longer pregnant is the overriding feeling
Oh- also- with DS1 I was over the pregnancy, ready to meet him and not be pregnant anymore. It is hard to believe that in a month (+/-) we will have baby #2 here! Item wise, we are all set and ready, but I am not really in any hurry to try to juggle a toddler and a newborn. This pregnancy is pretty easy and I (somewhat) know what I am in for this time around, so I can't say I am in a big hurry! lol
I was total opposite. My pregnancy with DS1 was easy peasy so I wasnt in a rush towards the end (and of course I went early with him haha). This time around, I'm so ready to have this baby. Im sore, tired, cranky, and my patience is in the negatives. I feel so bad for my kid, my dog, and mh. They're getting rhe brunt of it.
@ShuShubee I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. Hopefully, this pregnancy will be viable.
@BookitBoo I'm glad you're okay! Sorry about the car repairs
We bought a Looney Toons set on Amazon for $50 when it was originally $150. It has about 356 cartoons. Of course we bought it for baby I will be well entertained while breast feeding in the middle of the night.
I'm going to post a TL;DR bitch and moan, and then I'll go back and through and give all the love tits to everyone.
So, last night, I went to bed super early because I was so exhausted. I figured if I was in bed for a few extra hours, maybe I'd get some extra sleep, too, because let's face it, sleeping is hard right now.
Well, at 1:00, one of our dogs was whining and crying. Usually DH will take care of this on the rare occasion that it happens in the middle of the night, but last night, he was trying to ignore it. I asked him if he would let the dog out, and I thought he was getting up to do that. In the mean time, the whining dog woke Nora, so I crawled into bed with her to try to get her back to sleep. The whole time I was with her, the dog was still whining. When she fell back asleep a few minutes later, I went back to our room, and DH is in bed with the pillow and blanket over his head. Seriously??
SO I threw on some PJ pants and shoes and took the dogs outside for a few minutes. At that point, I was wide awake, and I couldn't fall back asleep. It took me almost 2 hours to start drifting back to sleep and as soon as I did, Nora woke up AGAIN. I got back in bed with her and must have fallen asleep pretty quickly in her bed.
Anyway, all in all, I got no more sleep than I would have since I had the 2 hour wake up in the middle of the night.
Also, we're thisclose to closing on our house sale and the purchase of our new home, but little things keep coming up because our buyer got an FHA loan. We're about bled dry because we've been nickled and dimed to death on nit picky stuff that we need to do to satisfy the parameters of her loan. We just got a list of 4 more things that need to be "looked at" (read: we need to pay a contractor to look at and sign something saying "yep, all's well" even though there was a full inspection done that has said as much), and we aren't sure how we're going to make it happen. If we put much more into trying to satisfy her lender, we aren't going to have enough left in our savings to close on our own house.
If you've read all of this, I owe you chocolate or maybe some cold hard cash (if I had any left to give.)
I can feel for you here, we were nickeled and dimed until we finally closed on our house. Then the buyers came back at us trying to get us to buy them a new roof they didn't need (maybe you remember that thread). I haven't heard anything from them since then, so hopefully this is a closed chapter now.
Chin up, it'll get better eventually even if you don't know how you'll do it.
@kmf218 BOO! But, make your insurance help you with it. In an emergency, things should be covered to the maximum allowed amount and usually as in network. That AND whatever you do have to pay for is probably payable on a plan.
I have found that insurance likes to deny things or pay part of them but once you push back, they try to get it fixed in your favor.
Thanks. I didn't think about a payment plan. I messaged my husband and he told me not to worry about it, but when it comes to anything financial I can't help but get a little spastic.
I did read the fine print of the bills and the insurance covered a lot of the monitoring stay and the ambulance ride, but the bill for the ER visit says it wasn't sent to the insurance company. :-/ I'm going to make my husband call tomorrow and see wtf is going on with that because that bill alone is over $1000. They can kiss my jiggly ass if they expect us to pay that flat out.
Stupid vent.... I bought 5 boxes of imperial margarine because it was insanely cheap and on sale (I usually use a different brand). IT IS HORRIBLE! Everything I've made with it so far is greasy and gross and the wrappers are impossible to take off... Grrrrr. What am I going to do with all of it? I know it's just margarine but it's sooooooo annoying. I think I'm a little over-emotional about it but whatevs, I'm pulling the pregnancy card.
I was in my room cleaning and I heard the doorbell. My H gets the door and brings me the box that was delivered. My friend was so sneaky and ordered me a high chair and had it delivered! My first gift for baby! :x
@9513 bad customer service to great customer service! I'd love some chocolate strawberries right now!
@BookitBoo so sorry about your car accident. That's wonderful you and baby are doing alright though!
We don't have a dog, but I'm feeling the same as you ladies about our cat. She can take a hike right now, especially after biting dd1's eyelid. She healed perfectly though and I got our cat up to date on her shots. I will never let that go again in case something like that ever happens again. So far dd1 and our cat are best friends again.
I'm now in the "I can't wait for school to be out for break" club. My kids had a 1 hr late start this morning and it was glorious!! I'm not looking forward to the all day fighting again, but at least the mornings will be relaxing!

I bought some of that to make gingerbread cookies and it worked out ok, the cookies stay soft for days and are not greasy. Maybe try it in a gingerbread recipe?
Does margarine work better than butter for cookies? I am making sugar cookies tonight (I like them soft), and the recipe calls for margarine, but I was going to use butter. Which one is better?
@Maebb i would stick with what the recipe calls for. I prefer butter but will buy margarine if its written down.
Thanks guys, I appreciate all the love! It means so much to me. Luckily we have car insurance so we only have to meet our deductible ($500). I'm actually trying to figure out how to petition the city for more lighting and better signs on the roads to prevent another accident. One of the men who stopped to help me lives up the road and says there are accidents there all the time. I don't think that's acceptable

Glad everybody's ok!! I work for a municipality and I would definitely show up at a city council meeting and ask to speak during public comments to ask the city for a traffic study or see what they can do, wouldn't help to get more people to come with you and speak as well. We have that all the time. It may be an issue that DOT deals with if its their road and they should be able to do a traffic study and hopefully make that intersection safer, and if there's been a lot of accidents it should be a lot easier to get done.

I'm catching up kinda late but I'm so glad you and baby are okay!
Good evening, what a busy day! Don't have a ton of time to read through everything, but hoping everyone has had a good day!
@bookitboo so glad you and baby are doing well and so glad insurance will pay for a lot of it (thats a major expense to take on otherwise!).
So glad I only have 3 more days of work left, commuting and sitting all day is really wearing on me. And only 17 days until baby is due!
Had my 37 week appt. yesterday and doctor did a cervix check - holy hell I didn't expect it to hurt so much and now I've been bleeding since (she said it was normal, but definitely doesn't make me comfortable). Doctor sent me for an ultrasound as she was measuring smaller than before, but ended up being she has just dropped. I was excited because I haven't had one since 21 weeks and was looking forward to seeing her, but too bad she was looking inside and you couldn't see her face at all.
Hoping to get through this week quickly and then get some rest and ready.
My poor baby is in the hospital he has a really high level of jaundice and we need to stay here until it lowers down to 12. It's at 25 now. I feel so guilty but I heard it's common for early newborns to have. I really look down on all the people who WANT to have their kids before 39 weeks.
Poor baby! Let us know how it is tomorrow Eta: my kids all had jaundice, but not bad enough to need the lights. I'm so sorry
@VioletGjoni sorry to see your LO is in the Nicu for phototherapy. We had the same situation with my son. Its so nervewracking having to see your LO in an incubator like that and not being able to.hold them any minute you want to, but all will be just fine.
My DS was only in for 24hrs and it was enough to get his bilirubindown to an acceptable level.

@VioletGjoni- SO common for early babies. Zoe needed bili lights, too. She was in there for 24 hours. She was totally fine after that. I know, it sucks. But he'll be ok ::hugs::
(Zoe Claire- born at 33.6 weeks- November 19, '14 - 5lbs 15oz)
@VioletGjoni please don't feel guilty. A lot of babies end up needing to spend time under the light. My BIL and his wife had to go back to the hospital after my niece was born because her number was 25 too. I know it's hard to see him in there but everything will be fine. Big hugs to you! >:D<
Partied last night and wasout of breath singing my usual karaoke song! Did some dancing too on the side. Miss the booze though esp w the great food that is there. Will surely miss work parties as this is my last week of working before I SAH starting next week. )

Three days of work. Three. More. Days.
This pregnant lady showed up the 5 guys on the fishing charter this morning by being the only one to catch any yellowtail snapper
This day just took a drastic turn into shitty.

Thank you! Do I need to do anything to be able to speak, like talk to someone before the meeting begins?
And @BabyStandish this answer is always "yes, go!" To chipotle!
