TUESDAY talk

I had a dream last night that I was pregnant, dating, and having sex with dudes.  I blame the flu.  I woke up really concerned that maybe having two kids will make my dating life harder.  I slowly realized that I was married and five seconds away from peeing the bed.

  • I have so much shit to do before we leave. I've never had to pack stuff for being gone for 2 weeks. I'm also feeling bad for leaving our dogs. I hope our big guy does ok. At least they will be home so hopefully they aren't too stressed. I hate long drives and I'm dreading this long drive. I told H that this was my one drive for the next 5 years. Yuck.

THT- I hope you are feeling better today! Sounds like yesterday was pretty rough!

My MIL spent over $200 on an American Girl bitty babyl and accessories for Q for Christmas. I think I'm going to put most of it away for awhile. She is not ready for using all of that stuff. I didn't realize that stuff was so crazy expensive. I've never had any!!

Thanks @alinnjo I think yesterday would have been better if I took more medicine.  I was hoping this would be a 24 hour thing but it's not looking that way :(  ETA holy hell, just looked up the bitty baby stuff.  It's a lot more expensive than I remember it being.  Wow.

@marisakathleen I would have really reamed the front desk.  Giving that information out doesn't help anyone, including the student.  Maybe you need to have an appointment only policy with this student, and have a set time that limits the appointment to 30 minutes.  What is she petitioning?  To get into the nursing school?

My sister had a 3.8GPA in high school, 4.0 GPA for 3 consecutive semesters in college with a very heavy science load, and decent hospital volunteer experience... and could not get in to Purdue's nursing program.  A nursing professor reviewed her app and could not figure out why she couldn't get accepted.  She had to apply three times, and finally got in.  She can't believe the idiots she's in the program with, considering how hard it was for her to get in.

Meanwhile our male neighbor, same age, dropped out of a different college with a 1.68 GPA (or similar)  in OLS and he got in first try.

This made me think of your student @marisakathleen.  Is something like this going on?

  • I rally rally rally want our new living room furniture to get here.  Once it gets here, I'm going to decide if I want to paint.  The sales guy said worst case scenario 3-4 weeks, but the form I signed allowed 8 weeks.  I had a feeling we'd be looking at 8 weeks, and online reviews show that sometimes they don't even meet that.  Damnit.

That's crazy and scary at the same time. I'm always nervous when I hear how people with shitty GPA's got into the medical field. I probably wouldn't feel comfortable having someone like that work on me.

  • This week is my peak week for baby making. Both DH and I have been so tired we aren't even having sex. We're going to bed. The first time around trying with B it was fun and exciting. This time it feels like a chore. I want it to be fun.

I think it's harder with DH's schedule now. He used to work days 7-3pm now he's all over the map working 12 hours. It looks like its shaping up to be mids whenever I'm fertile! This should be fun.

B is on anitbiotics for an ear infection for 10 days. He still has until Thursday but ran out of them this morning. I knew it would happen becuase they can only fit so much in the bottle and he was on 10 ml 2x a day. Would you call and have them make another bottle or screw it? This is our first ear infection.

I am an x-tech and nuclear medicine tech with a four year degree similar to ultrasound.  Unless you want to do management not really.

I am in PA school since I didn't want to do the RN route then NP.

  • @Loislayn you could also look in to certificate programs in sonography - you probably have a lot of the prerequisites. I see a lot of dietetics students applying for cardiovascular perfusion certification programs also.

I considered PA school and I'd probably be a shoe-in because MIL is the clinic coordinator for a PA program at a local university, but I dont' love the idea of not being able to work during that time, whereas with an online ARNP program, I could work too. I couldn't get into PA school right now anyways, my grades from my BS aren't good enough and I've been out of school 6 years so they aren't current. I figure if I have to do school to get ready for PA school, I may as well get schooling for something.
Gotcha.  The program I going through the first two semesters I have been able to work full time since it is online.  The next four will be weekends mostly.

Got to love having to make life decisions with having little ones.

  • This made me think of your student @marisakathleen.  Is something like this going on?
No--we have a petition process.  Our nursing department looks at specific things.  The biggest thing is the score they get on the National League of Nursing Pre-Entrance Exam.  This student got a really low score.  She just met the requirements by 1pt, so she's an alternate, which means that either someone enrolled in Advanced A&P will have to not be successful in their course, or someone else will have to drop out before she'd get the call that she could start.  Our petition process is silly--it doesn't include an interview, or letters of recc. like other schools.  They base admission solely on the test, & your grades in A&P & Advanced A&P & overall GPA.

@loislayn, I would tell you that CNA will not be indicative of what nursing would be like, unless you can get in at a hospital.  In our area, CNAs are very rare in the hospitals and are typically only hired in long term care or hospice, so most of my students don't feel like they've been prepared just based on doing that.  That being said, I think you'd be a fantastic nurse, especially after everything you guys have been going through with Reid.

And once I quit teaching, it wasn't worth it to spend the money to finish. You all are pretty amazing. It's got to be a ton of work!!

    STUCK:
I agree.  There's absolutely no way with having kids that I would go back to school again. Even if it was free.  I just have no motivation to go through all of that again.  School was always very easy for me, but if I had gone for something in the allied health field, or anything like that, I imagine I would have really struggled.

My useless Master's in in HR.  I'll never use that, but hey, at least it's a degree.

  • I should have gone to PA school after college.  I probably would have spent just as much as my master's in business administration/ healthcare and I could have been making a ton more money by now.

I've considered going back to school to have a clearer path going forward.  I "fit" in my career with my master's, but either the guy I've been in constant competition with will have to leave our agency or I will have to get a social work degree to move further up in my current organization.  Otherwise, I have considered either bridging to a teaching degree or bridging to a BSN, because I have a lot of courses for both of those from my bachelors.  (I was kind of an overachiever with two majors and two minors)  But trying to decide something now is insanely impossible.

  • So, my mom offered to meet me halfway between our houses and take Luci starting Christmas afternoon until after DH's gall bladder surgery.  I haven't said yes or no yet, because I have never been away from her for more than one night at a time.  I don't know what to do.  It would be awesome to not have to worry about her while trying to get ready for DH's surgery, but I am also nervous that she won't handle it well.  I've considered taking her to my mom on Thursday and then going to spend the weekend with my Mom after work on Friday until Sunday.  DH would be home, but he is working most of that anyway.....  I don't know, I just can't convince myself that she would be okay......

  • I left my lunch at home today. Waaah. It was homemade lasagna soup. Now, I feel like whatever I scrounge up at lunchtime is not going to live up to the expectations I had of that steaming bowl of soup. :-/

On another note, I'm nervous about this, and I don't know why, so maybe typing it out and getting some feedback will help. Months ago, DH and I started looking around at daycares bc we will have to switch centers before DS goes to kindergarten next fall, and waiting lists are pretty common in our area. We found one that seemed like a good fit -- good curriculum, teachers seemed nice, center is clean, location is convenient. The only thing that doesn't thrill me is that the kids have to eat their meals/snacks (DH thinks this is great bc it's so convenient. I'm a bit of a healthy food nazi so I think the meals are not going to be as good as what I'd pack, but it is what it is).

We're debating how soon before he starts kindergarten we actually want to move the kids bc it's going to run us an extra $60 a week. Part of me thinks we could save that money until we need to spend it; another part thinks maybe it's better to move the kids sooner in case the center completely sucks and we need to hustle to find a plan B before kindergarten starts.

I have been dragging my feet on signing the paperwork to hold their spots. I can't explain it, as I already said everything about the place looks good. We've only ever had one negative experience with a daycare, and it was a few years ago. Maybe I just feel like we could potentially be stuck here since I wouldn't move DS mid-kindergarten year. Or maybe it's bc I feel comfortable with our current center. Or maybe it's some deep-seated uncertainty surrounding my own career/direction in life. I can't pinpoint it, DH doesn't really understand it (nor do I), and I feel like I just need to bite the bullet, pay the registration and move on with our lives.

This crazy went on way too long, so I present you this non-shitty, butter-filled cookie if you made it to the end:

When is the surgery? I am sure Luci would be fine bc kids are very adaptable. I'd let your mom take her so you have one less worry. If you really feel like it's too long, you could go for the weekend, but it might actually be harder to leave her than if you just hand her over to your mom on Thursday.
