But omg I can't decide how to decorate the tops of these walls yet. I know I could do something fun. (Photos on the wall haters avert your eyes)
MK, I think words painted up there would be cool. Or you could hang a vintage sign or an old window up there. We have a window on the gable end of our house and I want to hang a wrought iron arched transom over it. All of these would require getting on a ladder, though
MK, are you talking about decorating up high on the tall walls or putting solid things on top of the regular height walls, like where you've got that glass vase/bottle thing right now?
I have a couple of old windows, but they scare me bc they have lead in them.
The issue with my house is that we went modern with decorating. I mean, it's a modern house, so old stuff doesn't fit in. Which sucks bc I really wanted an old farmhouse
And I want to know if you were like "omg a gable! I want to put a transom there!" Or if you looked things up and found what you wanted and saw what they were called. Bc I don't know these words.
LLOL. I knew what a gable was and I learned what a transom was. The gable end of a house is the triangular end. Apparently a transom is actually the crossbar above a window or door that adds support to it, but they call the windows above them transom lights. I want to hang one of the old school wrought iron decorative inserts above my existing window.
Also, I always wanted an old farmhouse, too. But now we have a chalet and I spend a lot of time thinking about how to incorporate farmhouse decor without it looking ridiculous
I would settle for a chalet.
I just have a house.
@unaveragejane it actually hadn't crossed my mind to decorate the walls, just the tops of the regular walls was what I was thinking.
What's an advent calendar for...just counting down the days until Christmas, right?
According to my husband, who grew up having an advent calendar every year and instisted that we get one this year now that our LO is eating solid food, an advent calendar is an excuse to have chocolate every day.
We bought a fake tree today. It's blasphemous I know. But we have a small living room that is mostly M's play space so if we are gonna take it over it needs to be the least destructible as possible. Plus we always fight about lights so I am excited to skip that. Annnnnd then we can put it up now and leave it til New Years.
Last year we bought a little 3 foot tree and put it up high out of DS's reach. It's hard when they're that age.

NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!! Not before thanksgiving!
I'm totally going out tomorrow to buy Christmas decorations. I might start my mantle at naptime.

Thats funny, because for me it was an excuse to eat a ton of chocolates in one day and then run out of them with twenty days left until Christmas.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
It all revolves around you.
Random thought...would it be ridiculous of me to keep the wrapped presents in the closet until the night before Christmas to keep N from wanting to unwrap them every day for a month? Or should I have faith in my 2-year-old's willpower to leave them alone?
Last year we put wrapped presents under the tree with about four or five days until Christmas. Two presents (that weren't even hers!) had to be rewrapped. I would never chance it for a full month lol.

It all revolves around you.
So I was thinking about the snowflakes...
What if I had the boys help me cut them out of the millions of coffee filters we have from before we bought our Keurig? Do you think they'd be too flimsy to hang?
yes. I think whatever you cut, they would kind of fold in on themselves

What about dipping/painting them with something that would dry clear but hard. I'm bad with the whole arts and crafts thing...is that modge podge? Or watered down Elmer's glue?
I grew up not having presents under the tree until Christmas morning. My parents would stay up til 2am wrapping and placing them. We would sometimes bring down our gifts to each other on Xmas Eve, but never before then.
Hubs was the opposite. It's still weird for me to see presents under the tree weeks before Xmas.
Thinking about Christmas decorations before turkey=acceptable
Buying Christmas decorations before turkey=acceptable
Putting up Christmas decorations before turkey=no.
Just now got up the courage to open this thread.
SAK I love you more every time you open your mouth.

Putting presents under the tree early and forcing your children to have willpower is part of what Christmas is really about. Waiting, acceptance, and probably, disappointment.
Uh oh. I hope there's an episode of Sesame Street about this.
I finally got a picture of our tree, which still doesn't have a topper yet. Our angel didn't fare very well through storage and moving so we're looking for a new one.
Also, stoney, your wood paneling puts my wood paneling to shame.
LLOL! Well since I'm a wood paneling connoisseur now, I've noticed that yours has an extra decorative groove of which I'm a bit jealous
My house has, like, seven different styles of wood paneling in it. I'll take you on a virtual tour one day. You know, after I radically paint my doors.
I'm totally having second thoughts about radically painting my doors, lol. We're going to sheet rock over some of the paneling and now I'm wondering if should keep the doors wood so they'll match the paneling that's left. I've already redecorated my house in my head like five different ways. Too many decisions!
