@Dorothygale01 feeling like a motherhood should be celebrated and that people should be happy is NOT the same thing as entitlement. I am a positive person.
What sense is it to tell someone they do not deserve happiness in their life because that is entitlement. You sound like a bitter old woman who needs to knock it off.

@sccr2011 I never said she wasnt. But telling me to knock off feeling like its okay for woman to want a perfect shower is not really an awesome comment.
Did I attack her character in some way that upsets you?
@crystalw88 so far the only thing that's tacky is your self righteous attitude. If you don't like this thread there is a little red x at the top right corner. Go spread some "holiday cheer" somewhere else.
@chicagojackie. Totally being rude!!! Maybe she's on her period.
I don't care about 2nd, 3rd 4th showers I just think it's funny no one offered and she couldn't miss the opportunity to get free stuff.
@errobinson I don't really care what you think. It's not like I am asking you to go. Why do you care. People are really starting to act pretty bitchy on this board. All I asked for were suggestions not insults. GET A LIFE!!!!!!
OP how many people are you thinking of inviting? Like on a scale of I have no friends to gala, where would you say your shower will fall?
I was thinking maybe 75-100. With everyone that I and dh know it should be s pretty good turn out. I am thinking I need to find somewhere big to host it. Parks are free but I think it will be too cold. I need to find find a place I can rent out for cheap.

I know right, I am just trying to plan an awesome shower over here.
I feel really bad for @errobinson ... That girl acts like a bitch a lot and gets called out all the time... SO thankful we don't have anything in common but a similar name.

@sccr2011 I never said she wasnt. But telling me to knock off feeling like its okay for woman to want a perfect shower is not really an awesome comment.
Did I attack her character in some way that upsets you?
This is ridiculous!!! I can tell some of these comments are meant to be sarcastic. We are all pregnant and every woman deserves a perfect shower. To come on here and just tease and make fun is completely rude and immature. We are all adults arent we?
You said that every woman who is pregnant DESERVES a perfect shower.
I'm an English teacher (and, fascinatingly enough, only twenty-eight, so not old), so I'm going to take this opportunity to educate you about how choices in diction function.
Diction refers to a writer's purposeful selection of words. The words we choose have both denotative meanings (dictionary definitions) as well as connotative meanings (implied, more emotional responses) that color how what we write and say are received by others.
When you used the word "deserves," here is what you are saying:
verb
do something or have or show qualities worthy of (reward or punishment).
"the referee deserves a pat on the back for his bravery"
So you said, in the denotative sense that by having a man's sperm fertilize one's egg, that woman is then worthy of reward for such biological processes. Connotatively, that leads one to believe that you feel pregnant women are entitled to (see the synonyms above) having others throw them the "perfect shower."
Entitlement, in case you are not aware, carries a slightly DIFFERENT inherent meaning.
adjective
believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
"his pompous, entitled attitude"
When you connotative suggest that pregnancy is a condition in which one is entitled to a party in one's honor, as you did via your use of "deserves," then we get into tone and the main issue. No one is inherently deserving of privileges due to pregnancy, as the denotative meaning suggests. In addition, the connotative message is one of an attitude that is, as in the sample sentence, pompous and self-important.
THEREFORE, when you make a statement as you did, you have no right to be angry with others for pointing out the ways in which your diction leads them to think, and you further have no right to back pedal as you have.
Saying that it's "okay for women to want perfect showers" and saying they "deserve perfect showers" are two entirely separate things. Now that you've had this vocabulary lesson, I hope you will select your words more carefully in the future.
OMG I totally get your point and you are correct technically, but you KNOW what she meant by it. Just leave it alone. It really seems like you are just trying to stir up shit. I'm all for correct grammar, but now this place is like a pop quiz in English class.

Actually, I didn't know that she meant it's "okay to want a perfect shower" when she said showers are deserved. There was no way for me to know that until she later clarified her thoughts as her language choice was poor in representing her ideas, though I suspect her choice of "deserves" actually DOES reflect her ideas and that she thinks getting knocked up makes you super special and deserving of privileges.
There is always room for lessons in communication. Language and reason is what separates us from the other mammals.
There is no reason to make it seem like you are so superior to her though.

Sorry. I should have been clear.
In order to seem in a certain way based on one's words, "sounding like" is the appropriate way to describe how that would happen.
If I seem superior, in your opinion, that must mean that it is because my words made me SOUND superior. In this case, the technical right verb would have been "reads" superior, but typically readers make sound associations as they decode words mentally!
As for the ducks, they're a metaphor.

@Paleomama still here? So far I think we have the following for you:
Baby girl shower 75-100 people Co-ed Possibly a potluck Diaper raffle and belly rub $ game Venue tbd What theme do you like best? Holiday? Princesses? Frozen?
Still here. Had to make lunch. All this party planning made me hungry. It is a toss up between frozen and princesses. Frozen is really in right now but if I do princesses I can really go all out with a pink theme and what girl doesn't love pink.

Oh and I found you a grammar blog just in case https://www.grammarphobia.com/blog
And @Paleomama look... I know not everyone is like me where basically everything is paid for and I just have to think of it and someone buys it for me. But the thing is, I don't ASK for stuff. People just give me stuff, you know? That's the whole problem I have. see it's ok for me because everyone always offers to buy me things (I mean honestly I can't think of the last time I even paid a tab at girls night.. My friends are the best!) but I don't ask for it. That's where the classlessness comes in. No hard feelings and I'm sorry if I wasn't clear before about my issue.
Hey not everyone can afford a fancy collage education. A ged is good enough for me. People need to stop being so mean.
My morning sickness is horrible today and I've been in bed puking all morning and this thread has really helped me take my mind off of it.
I have no idea what is real and what is mud. But, I thank you!
