TTC After a Loss

What would you do? (A non-TTCAL scenario)

What would you do if UPS delivered something addressed to your home but to someone that does not live there? For the sake of this poll, you live in a townhome that has a leasing office directly across from you and you were not home when the package was delivered.

What was delivered was two dresses, one size 4 and one size small from a retail store that has a location 10 minutes from you (You have no way of knowing what is in the package unless you open it).

Keep it! Any package left at my door is a package for me!

Call UPS and let them know they need to pick it up so it can be returned.

Bring it to the leasing office - I just moved in a couple months ago and I bet they know how to get in touch with the previous occupant.
48% 59 votes
Open up the package and see what it is. If I like it, I'll keep it, if I don't, I'll go to the store and return it.

  • I would definitely call UPS.  The package could be someones Christmas  O:-)

  • Call UPS. I get the option of taking it to the leasing office. However, they are likely to have the protocol of calling UPS. So, why add it to someone else's work, the extra step, and possibly more time (might sit in the leasing office until someone calls) until the rightful purchaser gets their items.

  • I guess I have to say call UPS. It's a pain in the ass. But there will be a delivery confirmation, so when that person goes looking for their package, they're going to know it got dropped at your door.

  • Nope. It's not mine, and i have no desire to pretend it is. The sooner it would be out of my possession the better. FedEx once delivered medicine to the wrong house. Never got it. I have not trusted my neighbors since then. Getting it back to UPS in a timely manner, especially this time of year, is my vote.

  • I did not add to the OP, but the next door neighbor works for UPS.

And what happened IRL was #4. The person-who-I-know-where-you-live returned it to the store for credit. I know this because the size 4 dress was in-stock at a store that never had it in-stock to begin with and the salesperson confirmed it was a return (only reason they had that one random dress). Small world with big coincidences!

People who were honest enough to click a button but not honest enough to admit to who you are - I'm the person you hurt by your actions.

I'm the person that "bought" you two dresses.

I'm the person that you stole from.

I'm the person who knows that it would have been insanely easy for you to do the right thing.

    image

Now have the balls to tell us all who you are.

Come on. Own up to why you would do this and justify it to the rest of us.

  • You can also try calling the service number on the invoice. This might be the fastest way to get the items where they need to go. Very likely they'll send a new shipment where the contents belong and send you return labels to make it easy for you to send it back.
  • I would take it to the leasing office because I'm sure they would know where the person moved or they would contact ups. I totally side eye the 3 votes for opening it! :-w

  • So impressed that no one would keep it!
This sorta happened to me, except the UPS guy got the completely wrong address...it was last Christmas, a package from Ann Taylor. We actually ended up driving around the block to the people's house who it was actually for and giving it to them. Felt a little weird, but way easier than UPS :-)

I meant to hit SS, but I think I accidentally hit #4 since I only see 1 SS vote! Stupid tiny keyboard. My SS option is similar to @furrypaws. We have a UPS drop box in my office building, so I'd stick it in there with a note on it that it was delivered to the wrong address.

  • I was just in this same position. I just had a random company send a complimentary G-Shock watch by accident to my company (our address but different name). The watch is retailed for $200. I had a real moral battle, but I did call the company to pick it back up and send it to the right lucky recipient.

But that watch was sooooo nice =((

OK, I put leasing office... Can I change my vote? Damn reasoning!
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

If there's a way, I don't know what it is. I tried to correct mine but couldn't figure it out.

  • @HeyMrsPotter - I seriously considered sending them a Christmas Card asking if they returned the dresses because they did not like them or because they are just a-holes and wanted free stuff from that store.  I decided that it probably was not the best idea.

@LDubsHawksFan - pretty much. I figured enough weeks had passed that the person had time to return it When I saw that there was only the one in there and that it was my size it seemed to be quite a coincidence - especially since they did not have them when I ordered it online. I told the salesclerk and she confirmed that it had been returned. I imagine the person said they did not have a receipt and just got store credit.

  • I would check with leasing office AND call UPS. I would never keep it--it's not different than taking it off of somebody's doorstep. Not that you would do that!

  • That's so gross. Okay, @buggirl72‌, here's the plan: write her name on a piece of paper and put it in the freezer. Curse set, problem solved.

Wait, did that make me sound crazy? Just a smidge? :) Seriously though, people are horrible. I'm sorry.
  • This happened to one of my packages.  I ordered a dress, it was delivered to the wrong house.  I called UPS who verified it was delivered to a house on a different street.  The girl at that house must've kept it because I never got it back.  We weren't even the same size!  I wanted to ask her about it but was too chicken.  Ultimately the original company (not UPS) gave me a refund.
