I choose SS. My doctor only offers the three hour test. Which I was annoyed about. But seeing how so many are failing the hour test and having to take the three hour I'm starting to see my doctors logic.
Just barely passed with a 136! I was convinced that I failed, since my dr released other test results taken at the same time onto their online portal, but this test didn't get released for some reason. I figured they were calling with bad news.
I haven't taken mine yet. I go in 2 weeks. Here's hoping I pass! Anything I can do to help lessen my chances of failing?
Other than fasting if you are told to, and avoid eating/drinking anything sugary prior to your test, not really. Several women who fail a one hour pass the three hour. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do to cause or prevent GD.
ETA - is this ridiculous? I mean - can they even trust this result? Has anyone else heard of someone being this low? I swear I drank exactly 11.5 ounces of purple grape juice exactly 1 hr before they drew my blood!
Failed at 253. Anyone know of blood sugar this high able to be controlled with diet alone?
I don't think the number from the test is a good indication of whether you would be able to control your blood sugar with diet or would need medication. From what I have seen they almost always have you try modifying your diet after meeting with a nutritionist and keeping a record of your blood sugar levels first. Then based on those levels with the modified diet your doctor will decide if you need meds or not.

59? That's like the opposite. My husband had to fast for a blood test his insurance company gave...and he got I think 69. I know he has low blood sugar issues...is your Dr. concerned at all?
I guess I'm worried that if I can't control with diet alone too much time will go by with the baby exposed to high sugar levels. My nutritionist appt is on the 17th do that feels like a while exposing her to possibly high blood sugars.
Just do the best you can and eat healthy in the meantime. Cut some of the carbs, cut out the processed sugar, and you should be fine. If they were extremely worried, they would of scheduled you in quicker. Try not to stress.
For those of us who need to take the 3-hr, my friend just reminded me of something fun, at least for those of us with kids at home...we will get alone time!!! I will get to read a book without pictures and not have to change anyone and not have to watch Disney or Nick Jr for 3 whole hours!!!
haha! I just remember last time being bored out of mind, even though I had to laptop. Sitting in 1 place for 3 hours sucks. Maybe I'll bring a blanket and take some mini naps.
Although...I do want to start reading Gone Girl...maybe i'll buy it off Kindle.

My number after the 1 hour was in the 280s my first pregnancy. I didn't even take a 3 hour. I was able to diet control, but had to be a very strict carb counter. If I ate even 5 grams too many with meals, my 2 hour post-prandial levels were high. All in all, it was a pain, but totally doable, especially for a finite amount of time. DS was a perfect 7 pounds 2 ounces and had no blood sugar issues after delivery.
The good news is I passed my first one hour test at 16 weeks with an 88 this time! Fingers crossed things go just as well at the repeat test at 28 weeks.
@stefmxo Light exercise can help lower blood sugar levels too. At meals be sure you are getting a good portion of protein, it can help keep your levels even. Like @cafecreme said, try not to stress. Hope the week goes by quickly and your nutritionist can help you come up with a good plan and hopefully avoid medication if possible.
@WyldstyleMB that gave me a lot of hope thank you! Today was my first day of my new diet and it was definitely hard. I still feel hungry and had about 35g of carbs all day with very little sugar as well. It's definitely worth it!
Eta- good luck at your repeat test! 88 is a great number.
You will do great! However, 35 grams of carbs all day is nor enough. You can't cut back that much or your baby will not get the sugar it needs. You will learn so much from the nutritionist, but I was required to eat a minimum amount of carbs with each meal and snack. I also had to eat a bedtime snack and tested for morning ketones to make sure I wasn't switching to fat metabolism overnight. They will calculate a specific plan for you, but my goals were 15 grams with snacks and 30-45 grams with each meal. Complex carbs are best, eat fat and protein along with your carbs, and avoid all refined sugar. Once you start testing, you learn quickly what your body can handle. I'm cheering for you!

They haven't said a thing! If I was my patient I would be like - um I think you lied & didn't drink the juice. Repeat the test ASAP. IDK!

^^This. I was taking in anywhere from 40-60 grams of carbs when I was on a DIET and losing weight. You definitely need more than that, regardless of gd...you're pregnant! Not having enough carbs can cause ketosis, and can harm the baby.

This is something that would be good to read. It says recommended, even with gd, should be around 175 grams.
eta: Yea, don't go too extreme. I know you're concerned, but you seriously just need a little tweeking with the food. That webpage up there has some really good ideas of what you should eat.

Thank you! It's all so new to me, and I could have sworn I read a low number somewhere else, but it probably wasn't credible. I will definitely talk to my doctor tomorrow.
Yea, if you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I know a lot about calorie counting and carb counting. Make sure you're getting enough calories too- at least 1800-2000.
