Re: Choosing Baby's Sex

  • @peledreamsofrain I have heard that too, about parts of Canada. So interesting.

And clearly I need to see Gattaca.

I think I read that it stems from pockets/communities of the native population that has a strong preference for males.

Also, does the title of this thread weird anyone else out? Choosing Baby Sex. No, no baby sex, please. No, no, no.

Choosing Baby's Sex? Grammar matters, people!

When I went back and edited the title from choosing baby's gender (the article threw me off my game) to the correct title of choosing baby's sex I deleted the 's part. Thanks for the heads up, that was gross.

  • I love Gattaca. I have the VHS. I'm not old. WTF is this nonsense?!??!?!

    Or am I old?! Shit.
Totally have the vhs, too! It was the first time I ever laid eyes on Jude Law. Sigh.

I finished the article....ironically, she gave her daughter the masculine name Emmerson that means "son of Emery". I think a small part of me died.....

Before reading this is really had no idea that this was even legal in the US and am truly sickened by the fact that it is. MAYBE I can see gender selection as a way of preventing some genetic disorders i.e there are 4 woman in my DIRECT line that have lupus (mama, grandma, great gma, and great aunt plus I have cousins and woman who died before I was born) and I unfortunately from a pretty young age have had a higher than normal chance of having lupus as well and have shown a lot of pre determining factors for it. Now unfortunately lupus is not something that you can directly test for and I am still too young for the doctors to make an official diagnosis but it something that I have lived with and am prepared to face in the future. Lupus is a predominantly female disorder (I don't know off the top of my head the ratio of men to woman that have it but it is a significant difference) and I am having a girl. And that scares me to think that I may be dooming her from the start to a life of problems. So in this instance I can kinda sorta see it but still even so I don't agree with it and even if I had the money would never consider doing it. And, obviously, this is not why she chose to do it. So my questions now become...

If she had had 3 girls would she have considered doing this to get a boy??

ETA: and I also think she is a twat and wanted to reach through my screen and punch her in the face. Just sayin...
