Does anyone else

get short of breath after being really active for a period of time. I get short of breath at work when we are really busy, I'm a cosmetologist. I noticed it the other day when I was deep cleaning my house too.
My boss said something to me about it today & told me to tell my dr & now I'm worried something is really wrong.

Re: Does anyone else

  • Thank you! I did Google and it figured out it was pretty normal but wanted to check here to make sure I wasn't the only one! My boss has had 5 kids so I figured she might know something! Clearly I was wrong about that! Truthfully she has done nothing but pick on me since she found out I was pregnant so I don't know why I chose to listen to her today!

  • I went to a concert yesterday and had to go up some pretty steep stairs (around 30-40). My husband was really concerned about how winded I got so we did a quick google search and also found out it appears normal! Pre-pregnancy, I would have gotten a little short of breathe but this really surprised me!
  • ..... I wasn't in the greatest shape before pregnancy, like 10lbs over weight. I'm sure that also has something to do with it...?
  • I had it earlier in this pregnancy and noticed it more climbing stairs. I don't get it often now. I poo poo your boss for suggesting something to be wrong. I hope she was genuinely concerned and not just flapping her gums.
  • I get really short of breath while pregnant. I assume it's because I'm very short waisted (there's like an inch between my hips and the bottom of my ribcage), so there's not a lot of room in my torso and my lungs get super squished by my uterus. Sitting up extra straight helps me a lot.

But for future reference, if Google tells you that a symptom is normal, you can be sure that means you're not the only one!

  • Being short-waisted definitely does not help. In third tri, I I always felt out of breath, even when I wasn't doing anything. I remember how much easier breathing was immediately after delivery, it was such a surprising feeling.
