Snoring...Solutions? I miss sleeping next to my H!

I have begun to snore loud ugly snores all night. My H said I didn't snore pre-pregnancy; I began towards the end of the second trimester. Prior to this week, a humidifier and drinking water helped with the snoring - however those no longer work. Now I am sleeping poorly and my H says he can't sleep with me at all anymore because I keep him up all night - which makes me sad. I really enjoy sleeping next to him at night.

Does anyone have any snoring remedies? Dr. Google suggests a cpap machine, and I will discuss with my Dr at my next appointment, but wanted to see if anyone here has found a solution I can try.

*Note - we have not yet tried a white noise machine or ear plugs - my goal would be to stop or reduce snoring in the first place.

  • I'm having this problem too. I tried the breathe right strips for a couple of days, but they left my nose raw and peeling and didn't eliminate the problem. My H wears earplugs.

  • Have you tried propping yourself up? I know for me it helps.
  • Earplugs for your DH?

I like to sleep with this pillow: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009HHLBKK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It helps with snoring because of the elevation, and I use it to take the pressure off my hips, because laying on my side causes me to wake up in pain every 30 min.

  • I've heard essential oils can help.

  • Breathe-rights and sleeping propped up seemed to help last pregnancy. I haven't worried too much about it this time.

  • I was gonna suggest the breathe right strips, my SO uses them and it helps his snoring a lot
  • I'm going to ask for a CPAP machine at my doctor's appointment tomorrow.  Not only is my snoring keeping poor C up at night, but it's disruptive enough that I myself am sleeping poorly enough that I cannot stay awake in the evenings (and sometimes I even doze off at my desk at work which really sucks).  I slept 15 hours on Friday night.  FIFTEEN hours.  No one should be sleeping that long.  I woke up this morning feeling like I didn't sleep at all last night.  I think I wake up in the middle of my REM cycles because my dreams are so vivid.

In any case, I'm really hoping a CPAP machine will make be feel better.

Also, try keeping a fan on at night.  I like the circulation and white noise.  It helps me sleep and it masks C's snores (not that she snores *loudly* but I can't sleep if I hear snoring of any sort).

  • A word about CPAP machines (from personal experience trying it):

1)Normally your insurance won't cover it until you have had a sleep study done to determine for sure that you have a problem it can fix.

2). If you are a mouth-breather, don't even bother with it. The machine relies on positive air pressure in your airway. If your mouth opens, the pressure is gone and you get no benefit.

    3) I personally couldn't stand the thing because I am an active sleeper. If you move around a lot, you often break the air seal on your mask and end up with air blasting directly into your eye.

  • My H wears ear plugs and sometimes that doesn't even help.

  • I don't snore (I'm a teeth grinder) but the SO does. I don't know if you're in the market for a new mattress, but we bought a Sleep Number with the base that moves the bed position. Best. Decision. Ever. The bed elevates his head, which helps TREMENDOUSLY with the snoring.

If you're not in the market for a new bed (I know we're all saving for baby!!), try propping yourself up with some extra pillows. It doesn't have to be much... you don't have to sleep at a 90 degree angle ;-)

  • You could buy a wedge. I bought one a couple weeks ago, because it helps with my heartburn/acid reflux.

  • I know people don't like stuff like this here, but I swear by Valor oil from Young Living. My husband is the snorer in our family and we started applying Valor to his big toe (I know it sounds weird) and it seriously makes a world of difference! My mom uses it too, and she has even had surgeries to help with her snoring.

  • If you're congested, an antihistamine like Zyrtec (long-term) or Benadryl (short-term) might help. Both are safe, and Benadryl is an the active ingredient in some OTC sleep aids, so it may help with insomnia.
  • Thanks everyone! My H has decided to sleep in the guest room tonight

  • I used breathe right strips during my cold at the start of the pregnancy. Helped a ton! Normally DH wears them every night and it's saved my sanity.
