Sorry to be a SS, but I need some name feedback.

I'm going to request some baby name feedback here rather than from complete strangers over on Baby Names.

Everyone in real life right now just says the like all of the ones I like, but I think they don't want to risk hurting my feelings (which they wouldn't anyway) by telling me what they really think. And I need to narrow down the list so I can get some feedback from my husband (as much as I don't want to deal with him, it's his kid too) and we can decide on something.

If it helps, the last name is a very common 1-syllable "S" surname, I'd like for the middle name to be Bradley after my late grandfather, and DS's name is Corbin.

Please, humor me. Additional suggestions welcome.

Sean
Ryan
Ian
Zachary
Gavin
Bryce
Rhys
Liam
Noah
Gage

HAAALP. Thanks :)

  • I love Liam! Not fond of Gage.
  • My favorite from your list is Gavin!
  • I dont like Gage much. All the other ones are nice. I like Liam the most. Good luck with picking. :)

I like all of them, except I have a strong dislike for Gage.

I really like all of these names except for Gavin, Bryce, and Gage. I love Sean, Ryan, Ian, and Rhys especially. Noah is nice but seems extremely popular these days.

The more I think about Gage the more I'm beginning to not like it. Plus I just realized shortly after posting this that It was the name of the little boy from Pet Semetary. Gotta be some bad juju there.

Liam & Noah are my favorites but their popularity is a concern. I just am not sure if I love them enough to not care that my kid will probably end up one of 5 Liams/Noahs in his class.

  • Ian or Rhys! Noah and Liam are cute but so popular right now. My YDS's best friend is named Ian and he's a doll. The little Rhys we know is super cute too!
  • In order of preference:
    Sean
    Ryan
    Noah
    Ian
    Gavin

    And then the rest :)
  • I like Liam, but the popularity might deter me. I also like Ryan Bradley and Ian Bradley. I agree with others Zachary and Bradley too much E. And eventhough I really like Bryce, Bryce Bradley is like a tongue twister.

  • Ryan and Noah are my favorites.

    Those are my boys names :) ages 5 & 3 :)
  • I like Ryan Bradley
  • Gavin is my favorite! Like PPs have said, Liam is just wayyyy too popular for me to even consider it. Off the top of my head I can think of four Liams so far among the children of people I know.
  • Where I am, Noah has been really popular but I feel like all the ones I know are kindergarten+ age now. So maybe the train has left the station on that one in terms of having several others in his class? I like it. I liked most of your names, but only listed my favorite previously since you said you wanted help narrowing!
  • I'm partial to Sean (DH's name) but I like Ryan too, both seem to flow nicely with Bradley
  • I love Rhys :-)
  • How do you pronounce Rhys? Like Reece or rise or rice? (Not trying to cut down the name I just really don't know as I've not seen it before.)

  • I like Rhys and Gavin. Sean, Ryan and Zachary sound like the guys I went to high school with, so maybe a little dated compared to Corbin. The others I have no objection to, just like Rhys and Gavin best :)

  • I would steer clear of the name that would end in t he same sound as the mn. Also, I don't like when siblings names rhyme, Ian /Corbin, ryan/Corbin, etc. But that is just my preference.

I dislike rhyming sibling names as well, and when they begin with the same letter/sound. Do you pronounce the names differently? They don't rhyme based on the pronounciations I know of (EE-an/CORE-bin) or do you just mean ending with the "-en" sound?

  • @trollsniper‌ Wow, I didn't even think of the "s" sound flowing from end of first name to beginning of last. *facepalm*

His father has shot them all down (out of spite, likely, since when I listed off these to him 10 weeks ago before shit really hit the fan he had no negative comment other than in regard to the popularity of Liam), saying that they're too "hoity-toity" so who knows what name this kid will end up with!

    Thanks your input, ladies! :)

Hoity toity? You're kidding me. These are pretty common, down to earth names. He is talking out of his ass...ugh! If Ryan is hoity toity, what isn't? John? Sorry you have to deal with him.

  • I'm really sorry he shot down all the names. My vote was for Sean. Reading the thread the name Owen popped into my head. Not a super popular name but still very nice.
  • Irritating he shot them all down. I'm gonna throw my two cents in anyways in case something changes because I reaaaallllyyy like Rhys and I think it packs the same kind of punch that Corbin does. However the PP was kinda right with the carry over to last name. I still like it though.
  • I guess I could throw in also that my top boy name was Reid, which is similar enough to Rhys, but it was a different ending but still goes with Bradley and Corbin. And it's a pretty old name so I don't know if it would be "hoity-toity" or not.

    Good luck!

I like Rhys & Ryan. I'll be the odd one out because I also like Gage, but I tend to like uncommon names. The one I really dislike is Zachary. I'm not quite sure why, but I've never liked it.

ETA: WTF, he shot them ALL down? I guess he better start making his own list then.
  • Ryan is by far the best name on your list (nothing wrong with the others, I just LOVE Ryan.) and I agree with you that it doesn't rhyme with Corbin. Distant second: Sean. Nothing wrong with classic names.

  • @picklesx‌ sorry he was a jerk. Maybe he's had time to chill the fuck down after the shit hit the fan and realize he's been a douche. (Probably wishful thinking but I have my fingers crossed for you.). I do like the name Rhys now that I know how to pronounce it but I just don't like the spelling. I've got a friend named Reece, he's pretty laid back. I know you've got til April so maybe he will come around by then and it won't be insane but if it comes down to it... I don't think he has to sign off on the name.

  • Liam or Gavin!
  • Ryan is my favorite on your list. Followed by Sean.
  • Liam and Noah were on my list, also... but it depends on if you are looking for something so popular? Gavin's a great name, it's my brother's name :-)

  • My DS name is Ian and I love it. It's easy to call, not popular, but pretty much everyone has heard of it. I like that it will be easy to teach him how to spell it too! My small peeves with it are that people often think his name is "Ethan" and I have to correct them, and then I'm afraid he will be confused about what sound the letter "I" normally makes.

  • Ryan, Sean and Ian are great.

I love Liam and Noah but both are popular right now. If you don't mind that then either of those would be great too!

I personally would eliminate Bryce and Gage completely.

Oh, also, I don't want to ever use DH's name because to me that's weird but his name is Leland and it's definitely a neat name. Kind of goes along the lines of Liam. (He goes by Lee quite a bit).
