Cloth Diapering

How do we feel about boys in girls prints?

Initially, I'm like, who cares? I have to buy them because they're adorable... but now I'm thinking I cant actually put my son in Marie and Maathai.
...Thoughts?

  • the boy/girl prints is pounded into our brains from a young age.  You think something looks girly because you're told that it does

I hate the "this is too girly" sentence.

  • I don't know, I mean what if you made him gay? Or worse yet, if someone mistook him for a girl! It's too awful to fathom. That baby should from birth know he's gotta be a real manly man one day.
Ouch. I'm not worried about making him gay... I was just honestly hoping y'all feel the same way I do! ;)

  • Thanks :). Hand me down from a big cousin. I think it's a 3t so we should get to wear it for awhile.

  • M wears "girl" clothes all the time. Right now he is wearing reindeer pj's from the girl section because we thought it was cuter than the boy one. We usually don't like girl clothes because we just e like them in general, for a girl or boy. We were team green and tried really hard to shop in the girls section.

I don't personally like a lot of the girl prints for diapers, but M has pink and purple ones. If you like it, let him rock it. :) at least until he tells you otherwise.

  • Ok, so maybe I was being a silly with the bacon comment, but I stand by what I said. Wearing "girl" things would make a boy seem soft, and if I had a boy I would want him to be powerful.

  • I just want to say...Albert is NOT a boy print.  It's a geeky math print.  Girls can love math too.
I don't think Jules is a boy print either.

    )
That was kind of exactly my point. What makes anything a girly print or a boy print? My girls wear non flowery prints, non pink and purple prints, blue clothes and diapers, whatever. I don't get the whole boy print thing.

And @TheUltimateStoneycakes‌ ladies can eat bacon too. That won't make your kid manly. If you even have a kid. Who are you anyway? Btw, mh is kinda soft and that's what I love the most about him. I also love that he wears camo and has a beard and hunts. But I love that he cries at extreme home makeover and when our daughters nuzzle into his hairy face. So stfu with that noise.

  • Girl and boy prints are an abstract concept created by society (like some cultures don't wear black when someone dies) not a factor in your child's personality. I want my sons to grow up to not judge people based on those kinds of abstract concepts but on their hearts/mind/character and to be good honest men no matter how masculine or feminine they chose to dress, act, or whatever. That being said.. Real men wear pink.

Yeah, I guess that's true... If you want your sons to grow up having no friends because no one wants to befriend someone so girly.

  • 1.   I'm allowed to have an opinion that differs from the idealistic glitter you all spew.

    2.  It's not about gay/straight/transgendered/whatever.  It's about men acting like men.  being strong and powerful.  no matter what pink used to mean, society now identifies it as a feminine color, and ultimately femininity is  considered weak.  It's not a put down toward women.  We're just designed to be the fairer sex.  There's a reason that as a general rule  men make more money and have more prestigious jobs.    I'd rather have a somewhat slimy, yet strong man leading me than have a gentle and, yes, soft, woman leading me.  It's one of the reasons I'd be hard pressed to ever vote for a female president.
  • I can't even with this. Glitter? Us? Clearly you don't even know us.

But the gender stereotype bs? Women are weak? A slimy man is better than a soft woman? You are disgusting.

  • By glitter I just meant that you live in a very idealistic world if you think appearance and societal norms won't impact your child's life.

And clearly the word "soft" is offending you as well.  It's not meant to be offensive.  It just is what it is.  Women are made to be gentle and nurturing.  Are you disagreeing with that?
  • Yes.

I don't even know what's going on anymore but I'm going with it. Gender or biological sex are in no way determinative of personality or strengths/weaknesses.

  • Oh for crying out loud.  No, they're not mutually exclusive, but one trait is going to stand out more.  And if I had a son, I would want people to look at him and think:  strong, powerful, confident.  Dressing him in flowers and pink isn't going to give people that impression.
  • I want people to think strong, powerful, and confident just as much about my daughter as about my son.
Then I wouldn't dress her in flowers either.  I don't understand the confusion.  I'm not being a jerk, I just really don't get it.  Flowers do not evoke images of power and force.
  • a glittery flower is your comeback?  LOL
  • It's a harmful stereotype that feminine means weak.
