Talon Reid's birth story (very long)

Birth story:

Monday 12/1 I woke up to take Alexis to school, got her breakfast and wham I had a bloody show in the bathroom. I tried not to excited, but what pregnant woman doesn't get excited when this happens. Anyways, mild contractions start as I give Lex a shower and take her to school. I come home take about an hour nap, complain to FI that I'm in pain, and these feel different than any before. Picked up a little around the house, took a shower, took another nap, and told FI that when I got up if I'm still in pain I'm going to the hospital. Woke up because of the contractions so of course I headed my butt to L&D.

L&D trip number 1:
Let me just start by saying I love the nurses at my hospital. They are awesome! Anyways get to the ER they do my vitals and send me upstairs to get monitored, I was in fact contracting every 4-9 minutes and there were mild and there were strong ones but not a consistent pattern of the strong ones which would dilate me farther than the 1 I was at. I was told to go home, rest, eat, bathe in hot water, and come back if my water breaks or the contractions are unbearable or the next day which ever comes first. So I go home FI and I go eat dinner, I have an awesome steak salad! We go back home and I take a hot hot bath, and start timing contractions again because they literally were not going way so around 8 we head back to the hospital again.

L&D trip 2:
Register again, check vitals again in the er, and head back upstairs. The nurse who delivered my brother 12 1/2 years previous was the nurse on duty, and she was flipping awesome. I still was not dilated anymore, but my contractions were stronger and more consistent. She called my dr and she said they could keep me and start and iv drip to see if that would regulate my pain or contractions, but they would not start pit until the morning because there was no OR team at the hospital (they are on call after 9pm) and the anesthesiologist wouldn't be the one my OB liked to use. My OB recommended a shot of Demerol with phenergan go home and get some rest and come back the next morning for my scheduled induction. Got the shot, she watched me for a little bit to make sure it wasn't making me dilate more, it didn't and I was getting drowsy so me and FI went home.

Home:
We got home around 9:30pm, I took our puppy and went to lay down. My contractions had eased up a little bit, but not enough to where I could fall asleep so I tossed and turned in bed, I got more pillows, laid on the heating pad, and nothing was helping. FI came to bed around 1, and I could tell my contractions were getting worse again. I warned him that I may not make it until 6am when we were due back at the hospital, and he was like well I'm getting some rest then. I continued to feel like I was dying in bed for another 30 minutes before I got up and tried to take another bath which didn't help anymore. I didn't feel like climbing back in bed so I came to the living room and tried to watch Ellen. Her humor which usually has me laughing my ass off was pissing me off cause I was in so much pain lol I only watched like 15 minutes of it and then just laid here in the dark. Finally around 3:45 I woke up FI and told him I couldn't handle it anymore.

L&D #3:
I walk in and the ER registers me (she doesn't have a chair so I'm awkwardly leaning/standing on the counter) and a nurse comes out and she was like are you ok sweetie and I tell her im having horrible contractions and she was like we'll get you upstairs and they can register you. So we get up there instead of having to deal with the ER vital checks and junk. My nurse from earlier sees me and was like you aren't suppose to be here dear! You have 2 more hours! She was joking of course she just didn't have my room ready. She gets it together checks me and I had dilated to 4 cm at home and baby was at 0 station. She said once I get my water broken I should be good to go really fast. She calls my dr and she says to go ahead and start the pit and she would call the anesthesiologist she likes and will get him there asap. By the time the pit is hooked up it is close to 6 so the nurse gives me the time line. Epidural at 7, waters broken around 8, and hopefully baby by noon! I was super excited.

Around 6:45 I was having cuplits, as well as coming off the Demerol shot I had the night before. I got dizzy and my face was tingly and I was freaking myself out. My FI jumped up and got the nurse and she said I was hyperventilating and gave me the oxygen mask with no oxygen to breath in and I started ugly crying and she got me a washcloth. About that time the anesthesiologist came in I got even more scared. They took my blood pressure and they told me I had to calm down otherwise he couldn't do his thing. My other awesome nurse kept telling me I was doing good and just breath and she got me calmed down. He finally started the epidural and holy shit that hurt. It didn't take very long and I wasn't feeling anything. I could still move tho which I was thankful for because I kept having to roll from my left to the right cause I didn't want the epidural to settle in my already tingly butt.

At 8:15 my OB came in and told me I was doing awesome. She broke my water and told me I was at 6 and said this should move things along. She said she was going to the office to check some patients and she would be back if she was needed (her office is right next to the hospital). At 9 they checked me and I was at a 7. Around 9:30 I started getting hard hard hard contractions and the epidural wasn't touching that pain. I was on my side facing my dad and FI and they didn't like the way I was looking so he went and got the nurse. She came back in and checked me and I was at a 10. It was 9:45 at this time. She said those contractions were what opened me up. She said baby's head was about half a pinky from the opening so I should only have to push three or four times and he would be out. She went and called my OB and she said she would see one more patient and be over.

The nurse upped my epidural and I laid there feeling absolutely nothing for an hour waiting on the OB. She got there and it was go time! I was nervous about pushing but after a few pushes I literally felt nothing. The nurse had to tell me when the contractions were starting so I could push. After about 15 minutes they started rushing around and started freaking me out. Baby's heartbeat kept dropping so they gave me oxygen and told me to take big deep breaths for the baby. Apparently baby was stuck. They told me I needed to get him out and so instead of 3 pushes every contraction we were going to do 4. So we go. And they got the suction to help him come out. My OB was trying to help him out, and I kept hearing popping and saw scissors go across me (I later found out the popping was me ripping and she had to cut something for it to be big enough for his shoulders) the OB say oh man he is big. Finally she says one more big push (this is the only thing I feel) and there's a big big pressure and then I feel a HUGE release and he's out. And I say OH MY I CAN BREATH. And FI cuts his cord, and the OB says again I cannot believe how big he is and they put him on my chest for skin to skin. He was absolutely beautiful. OB stitched me up for 45 minutes and told me I had a 3rd degree tear and a cut on my wall. I asked how many stitches and she was like I honestly couldn't tell you. I was like lovely.

Anyways! Baby boy: Talon Reid arrived in this big world on December 2, 2014 at 11:40 AM after 28 hours of labor. He was 9lbs 13oz and 21 inches long. He was way way bigger than anyone had imagined and my OB told me next time she is delivering me at 39 weeks.

Sorry this was so wordy, I mostly wanted to remember everything for myself, but I love reading everyone else's so I am sharing as well :)
