Re: s/o natural blah blah your birth plan vs. your birth experience

  • 1.  Plan - go into labor on my due date, have an epidural, stay a few days, take baby home.

    2.  Reality - water broke at 34 weeks, had pitocin and an epi, delivered a preemie, he went to the NICU and I went home.  (He did get to come home 2 weeks later, though!)

  • 1.  Not opposed to epidural, but not dependent on it.  Pretty  much go with the flow, let's see how we do, learned some lamaze and DH was schooled on pain management techniques.  Wanted to labor at home as much as possible.

    2. Scheduled c/s

  • 1. drug-free water birth

    2. induction, epidural, cesarian

    LOL

  • 1. Natural

    2. 13 hours of pitocin induced hell before I got an epi, then c-section

  • plan:  go into labor, get an epidural, have a baby

reality:  induced, got an epidural, had a baby

  • 1. Plan: Birth Center with MW, completely natural delivery, Bradley Method

    2. Actual: Ike's hb crashed several times, was rushed to the hospital had Ike 6 minutes later via emergency c/s.  I'm trying to see the positive, there was no time for an epi, so still no drugs were used and that was part of the original plan, lol

  • plan labor at home as long as possible/ no interventions at all/ push in whatever position i wanted/ have my baby

what actually happened water broke at 36 weeks at doctors office/ walked by doc to l&d/ iv with antibiotics since i didn't get the gbs test/ pitocin since i didn't have contractions/ had to push on my side instead of squatting like i wanted/ had my baby

  • 1. Had no plan whatsoever.

    2. Got to hospital not sure if I was in labor or not. They put me in a triage area to wait and see if they were going to keep me. I went from a fingertip to 8 cm. in 2 hours. Moved to a labor room and had him an hour later. Yes you can all hate me.

  • Plan: Get an epidural ASAP and hope for the best, even though I was expecting a long horrible 30 hour labor, because I am dramatic like that.

Reality: Got the epidural 10 minutes after getting settled in my hospital room, had DD 5 hours later and didn't feel a thing!

  • Plan: Practiced hypnobirthing, read like crazy and wanted a natural birth.

What happened: I got to 6 cm before I took the epi, used my hypno breathing even when I was pushing etc.  Turned out that he was a-cephalic (meaning, sunny side up) and I pushed for 3 hours before we ended up in a c/s.

I have some regrets, but not really. I took the epi mostly because I had not slept in well over 24 hours and knew if I didn't get some rest that I would not have been able to push. It wasn't so much a pain thing.  The only thing that sucked big time about the epi was that I couldn't feel my legs AT ALL.

  • 1. go into labor on/after my due date, get an epi and deliver vaginally

    2. developed severe pre-e, failed induction, emergency c/s at 36 weeks.

  • 1.  My plan was go with the flow.  Natural if I can hack it, but I'm open to options.

    2.  After laboring at home for 12 hours overnight with painful contractions, I requested the epi as soon as they admitted me.  I was still really scared about the epi.  Then they started pitocin, which I originally didn't want, but since I already got the epi I said "what the hell?" bring it on!  DD arrived 24 hours after my labor began.

  • Plan - go into labor naturally unless ridiculously overdue and have a non-medicated vaginal delivery

Actual - Baby was breech, had a scheduled c/s and my water broke 11 days before the scheduled. Had a spinal epidural w/ morphine..then a couple percocets..and then down to motrin only the day after surgery.

  • Plan - med free vaginal birth

    Actual - epidural, c/s

  • 1.  Get baby out as quickly as possible, with the least amount of pain

    2.  #1 - failed epi, lots of pain  #2 beautiful epi, laughing while pushing

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • 1. Plan was drug free and I thought I'd want to squat to push.

    2. Things went mostly according to plan.  I did have a dose of Nubain halfway through that made me woozy enough to rest for an hour.  I ended up pushing him out on my back.

  • 1. Go into labor on or after due date, try to go as natural as possible for as long as I can.  Do all the pain management exercises learned in birthing class. Get no episiotomy or tears and be back to work in 6 weeks.

    2. Started contrax at 38 weeks, went to hospital, got sent home 95% effaced and only 1 cm. Stayed at home laboring in extreme pain, forgetting everything I learned and in too much agony to look in book. Waited till I couldn't stand it anymore and went back to hospital, once 5-6 cm and 100% effaced, told them to give me the epi NOW!!  Got pitocin after pushing for an hour cause contrax slowed down.  Got a 2nd degree tear that made it impossible to stand for longer than 10 minutes at a time for weeks.

Other than that, I was lucky to have a pretty easy pregnancy and a great birth experience!

  • Plan: go into labor naturally, get an epi, give birth

Actual: progressed too fast for drugs - went natural

  • 1.  Wait until I was at least 5 cm until I got an epi; Only my mom and husband in birthing suite for pushing

    2.  I made it until I was 6 cm, got an epi that didn't work at first; got another dose; Made it to 10 cm within 45 minutes after epi kicked in

My mother in law would not take the hint that she was not welcome to see my lady bits but really at that point I didn't care so I brushed it off.  My husband wanted to kick her out but I really wasn't caring as I was otherwise occupied.

I pushed for almost three hours.  The last half hour my doctor tried to turn Owen's head because he was wedged and was trying to come out sideways.  My epi wore off THREE times.  His cord slipped too low so I ended up having to have a c-section.  My epi wore off in the middle of the c-section and the anesthesiologist wouldn't give me meds until they had Owen's head out.  I was screaming and my husband was trying to stay calm.  They then knocked me out and I missed the first 3-4 hours of my baby's lifeCrying  Not at all what I pictured.

  • 1.  go in to labor naturaly, get an epi and avoid a C-section if at all possibe. Eat pancakes or something good (I had GD)

    2.  Had to be induced,  had to have water broken,  labored for 20 hours.  Never made it past 6 cm.  Had to have an emergancy C-section because his heart rate jumped way high then fell to 60 and did not recover fast enough.  He had the cord wraped around his neck twice.  I did not get to eat for about 3 hours after I had him. But I did get pancakes!Wink

  • 1. Go into labor. Go as long as possible without meds or epi. Deliver vaginally.  Pretty simple right?

    2. Induction. Pre-e onset the day before my induction. 23 hours of unmedicated back labor. 1.5 hours of sticking because the anesthetist could not get the catheter in my spine. Baby was sunny side up and wedged in my pelvis. C/S that I felt. Hearing the doctors say "wanna have a tug of war?" with my baby and feeling it happen. Getting knocked out because I was trying to stop the doctors from hurting me. Lost too much blood. Incision twice as long as a normal one. I can keep going, but I don't think I want to.

  • 1. ?Go into labor naturally and labor at home as long as possible. Delivery as natural as possible, but not opposed to epi if absolutely needed.

    ?

    2. ?Went in for a 36 week check up, ended up in the hospital that same day. ?Induced, cervadil, pitocin, foley bulb, stadol, epi, internal monitoring. ?62 hours later she was here, healthy and no time in NICU, for which I am so grateful.

Pretty much everything I didn't want to happen did happen. ?It was as if they had a check list. ?

  • 1.  Plan - Go into labor and head straight to the hospital. See how far I could get without the epi. If naturally so be it. NO episiotomy.

What actually happened - Went into labor at 6pm Saturday night. Labored at home until 5 am Sunday morning (wasn't that bad but worse than the night before. Admitted at 6 am. Labored until 11 am before I asked for the epi. I was exhausted and knew I wouldn't have the strength to push if I didn't get some rest. This slowed labor down so I was put on PIT. Shut off epi at 730-8pm. Pushed for a little less than and hour and a half. Healthy baby boy born. Didn't have an episiotomy but had a second degree tear.

I pretty much got what I wanted minus being in labor for 26 hours. Sorry, I wasn't concise ;)

  • Go with the flow, no  epidural

Got half an epidural pushed before he was finished putting it in

  • 1.  No plan, except epidural and alot of it.  Was open to c-section.

    2.  Induced, painless vaginal delivery.  I had a great birth experience.

  • 1. Go into labor naturally, get an epi, and push a baby out.

    2. induction, water broke, got an epi, had a million things done to me to get me to dialate, DS got stuck, and had a c/s.

My next birth plan is to schedule a c/s at 39 weeks.

  • Plan: I word "plan" was not in my vocabulary. I realized that planning anything was going to be a bad thing for me. I had to go with the flow and not over think it. I wished for a natural birth with possible water birth. Was not opposed to the epi, but had a 3 strikes deal with DH. First time I asked for pain meds he was to ask me to switch positions, second time try the tub, third time gimme the drugs!

Actual: I was induced at 38 weeks because I found out I had collestasis of the liver and a little high blood pressure. They induced me using mizoproxill (sp?) a pill placed behind my cervix. That kick started my labor and I got in the tub when I started feeling like I couldn't breath through the contractions. Had natural water birth.

  • plan: go into labor on my own, try to labor at home as long as possible, no epi until I hit 6-7 cm, have baby vaginally

actual: induced at 40 weeks because of polyhydramnios, epi after 2 hours of pitocin and horrible back labor (only at 2 cm), in labor for 10 hours, push for 2 hours, end up with a c-section,

  • Plan- Go into labor, get epi, have baby

What happened- Water broke, went into labor, got epi, had baby!

  • 1. Plan- labor at home as long as possible, use shower or tub, med-free

2.Actual- water broke at 37 weeks, had to get pitocin b/c labor would not pick up, got an epi 16 hours later that didn't take, delivered right after I got it

  • plan -- natural drug-free

reality -- natural drug-free with more screaming than anticipated!?

  • Plan: Took a wait-and-see stance, really. Wasn't opposed to epi, but wanted to labor without meds as long as possible.

Actual: In labor for 20 hours with 13 hits of pitocin and two shots of neumorphin to get some rest. DH overheard doctor in the hallway talking about doing a c/s because I wasn't progressing quickly enough for him. Thankfully I felt the urge to push about an hour after that conversation and after 10 minutes of pushing, DS was born. This was also about 8 hours after last shot of pain meds, so I ended up being med-free for delivery.

  • 1. Go early with DD, and go completely natural.

    2. Went into labor on EDD, labored naturally for 12 hours, gave in and got the epi, had DD 2 1/2 hrs later

  • Plan: Go with the flow, natural if I can take it or get the epi if it is unbearable.

Actual: Induced at 8 pm on Thursday, broke my water at 1 pm on Friday, got epi at 5 pm on Friday so I could sleep, pushed for 30 minutes and had DD at 6 am on Saturday.

  • 1.  To go into labor, have a normal vag delivery with epi, have no problems, take baby (who is a nursing genius) home and live happily ever after.

    2.  Got induced due to severe pre-e, after two days of cervadil (spelling?) and still no dilating, they put me on pitocin and broke my water.  Contractions started coming every 45 seconds but still not dilated past 1 cm.  This went on for almost three hours.  With no epidural.  Finally did emergency c/s which went off without a hitch.  DD was perfectly healthy, though jaundiced.  We both went home four days later.  The same night that I went home, I had to go back to the emergency room because I couldn't breathe and was coughing blood.  Found out I was going through congestive heart failure, likely because of high blood pressure mixed with the tons of fluid via iv during the 12 hour labor process.  Spent two days in ICU then four days in the cardiac unit before going home.  Never got to breastfeed after going home due to meds I was on.

    2.  Went to ER October 24th bc of bad headache all day, checked blood pressure at home and it was crazy high so they had me come in to get checked out and spend the time.  Couldn't get it down so c-section the next day.

Plan - med free vaginal birth

    Actual - epidural, c/s

    ditto

  • Plan: Go into labor at home, labor as long as possible without pain meds, get epi when needed, have vaginal birth with no tearing (we can all dream... right?!), be in labor no more than 12 hours from first contraction.

Actual: Induced for pre-e after one week of bedrest, Had Cervidil, Gave me contractions, got IV pain meds 8 hours after Cervidil placed, Pitocin, got epi after 8 hours on Pitocin, after 21 hours of labor I had vaginal birth with second degree tear.  I still had a wonderful birth experience!

  • I wanted as little interevention as i could stand. I figured I'd make it to 39 weeks.

Went into labor at 36w 4days, was 9 cm when I got there, no time for epi...went natural, but they needed to use the vacuum for delivery. I had a one degree tear and a half degree tear.

  • 1. Keep my options open concerning pain meds and what type of delivery I would ultimately end up with.  I had prepared myself for the possibility of a c-section given my stubbornly breech baby, but if she turned I was going to go for a vaginal delivery.

    2. Had a C-section at 37w3d due to PIH and because DD wasn't moving and failed her BPP (we were sent directly to the hospital from my OB appointment).  Cord was around her neck so she couldn't turn.
