  • Thanks, all.  Still spotting a little this morning, but other than my normal pregnancy pains, nothing new to report. I figure its from the exam.

    Thanks again!

  • Just like ladycersei said, even if hypothetically it were bloody show it means nothing at all. Mucus plugs can regenerate and can be lost weeks before labor begins. So it sounds like everything is all good either way, no need to worry! :)

  • I don't think it was my mucus plug. I have had a mucusy discharge ever since I could remember.  The only difference the other night was it was reddish rather then green like it usually is. I have vulvar veins which are very painful, and my belly has been tight for the last month. At least it seems tight to me.  My midwife said it will tighten even more when contractions start. I have just been in so much discomfort for the last month, I am worried I wont be able to tell a contraction from my normal pains.  With my first, he broke my water, and I later had to be induced.
  • I always had mucousy blood after exams with DD1 in the later stages.  When you have your bloody show, there's no mistaking it, I promise :)

I also wondered if I was going into labor when I had some decent contractions and was in pretty good pain from a pelvic problem and back pain.  Someone told me, if you're going into labor, there's no mistaking it.  Boy were they right.  All previous contractions would make me stop walking, but the real deal made me double over.  As soon as I went into labor, I was like OH, THIS is labor.  I had really painful contractions for over 24 hours before I hit the 3-1-1 rule and called the doctor.  Every 3 min, 1 min long, for 1 hour.  I swear I was stuck at 8 minutes apart for hours.  If in doubt, start timing them.  There are apps you can download :)

  • You can loose parts of your mucus plug before days before you even go into labor. Considering you just had an exam I wouldn't be too worried. The doctor could have jumbled something up in there loose when examining your cervix.
However, I am always a fan of calling the Dr. if it helps put your mind at ease. That's what they are there for and why they get paid the big bucks :) Don't be afraid to call if it would make you feel better.
