I meant to tell the group that Hallmark made a movie based off of the Christmas shoes song. I'm not ashamed to say I watched it. It was just as horrible as you can imagine. I'm also not embarrassed to say I watch the Hallmark channel at Christmas time, while eating my ribbon candy. Last night Jennifer Grey was in one.
Maybe this should be a separate post, but I remember being shocked when I heard about it on my other BMB... but do you guys sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus on Christmas?
Haha, this is funny.
UO: I think it's ridiculous to go the sexual assault route with Baby It's Cold Outside. Why can't it just be taken in the flirty tone that it was written in. Have that many people never been talked or tried to talk a boyfriend/girlfriend into staying the night?
I was thinking the same thing. I love that song, and I've always taken it as the girl really wants to stay but doesn't want to look bad (because 1950s).
She says "what's in this drink?"
How is that NOT rapey?
She is saying she wants to go and he tells her to stop holding out. It's gross.
I can understand why people feel this way (and anyone is well within rights to hate a song that brings up those associations for them), but my grandma always used to say that when she had anything alcoholic. To me, it just makes me think of a silly, old-timey thing to say, so I've always liked the song.
I agree with @bookshelves that I think some of the lyrics are off-sounding because phrases like "what's in this drink" in the 50s wasn't in any way meaning "did you just roofie me??" Also, what of the John Travolta/Olivia Newton John version where they flip the boy/girl parts - so she's pushing him to stay? Still rapey?
@laurlaurlaur - H's mom's side of the family does the cake/singing to Jesus thing. It's the weirdest thing I've ever heard of and have never met anyone else who does this silliness. A - Jesus wasn't ACTUALLY born on Christmas, it's symbolic. B - he's been dead for a long while, why are we singing to a dead dude? Do they think Jesus is up in heaven thinking, "thank Dad someone remembered my birthday!"
I love Little Drummer Boy, but that song has a special meaning for me because of fond memories with my family. Hate the Dominick the Donkey song though. And pretty much any new/modern songs. I prefer classics for Christmas tunes.
This thread has ruined the Christmas stations on Sirius for me. I can't listen without thinking of who hates this song and who said what about this one or I wonder if so-and-so likes this? So it's Lessons & Carols from Kings College for me, at least until I'm done feeling pretentious. Then, Michael Buble on CD.

I think of F14 too but mostly I think, "How does $hell stomach XM Holly?" They play way too many new and modern songs. I always check the station when searching for the song and I leave itbon the song like 1/6 times. I much prefer XM Holiday traditions and my local fm channel that does all Christmas music.
Oh also, XM used to have a station out of New York that went all Christmas music for December, I'm guessing that station isn't near you.

Last year Sirius turned one of the classical stations into a Christmas station, and it featured the most delightful music. Then they got rid if that classical station all together. #losers
I don't know if I have Sirius or XM. I thought they were the same.
Re: What is your least favorite Christmas song?
Signed,
Fellow sappy movie watcher
Also, I had never once thought baby it's cold outside was rapey until now. Mind blown. And sad.
Mom to Lily and Colin!

I have a new least favorite song.
