Feeling sick after I eat... Any recommendations?

I'm 4 weeks pregnant and feeling sick after each meal. I've reduced the amount of food intake to see if it makes a difference but it doesn't. I haven't had morning sickness yet, thank god... I have a doctors appointment this coming Monday, due to being a high risk pregnancy, to see if he can prescribe something but until then, nothing that I've tried (mints, lemon water) has helped.

Eating healthy, no greasy foods of any kind.

  • Are you taking any prenatal vitamins?

  • I am. Is that the problem? Never thought about that.
  • From what I've read it could be, depending on the iron amount in it. That can contribute to it. I'd talk to your doctor on Monday and see what they think.  They can probably suggest something that is a little easier on your stomach and maybe give you Zofran or some type of anti-nausea. I love Zofran. :)

I'm not sure what your eating habits are but in the meantime, what has helped for me is instead of eating big meals during the day, I eat something little every little while. I've noticed that if I don't eat and my stomach starts to growl, I get nauseous and eating sometimes makes it worse, but if I keep my stomach full then I'm usually okay all day.

    Hope this helps.

  • I second the small snacks throughout the day and smaller meals. Chocolate covered almonds were my personal favourite. For me, that really helped manage the nausea though I definitely still had some really crappy moments with it. My prenatals also didn't make me feel the best either but taking them with food and some orange juice made a difference for me. Hope this helps for now and that your doctor can answer your questions at your appointment.

  • Thank you ladies!!
  • Smaller meals are a good start, and trying to not go too long between meals...try taking your prenatal at night before bed instead of during the day. They've never bothered me but I've heard that helps some people.
  • I agree with everyone on the smaller meals. I also found that herbal peppermint tea helps calm the queasiness too. It's naturally decafinated. Good luck and feel better!
  • This helps a lot ... I will start taking my prenatal vitamin at night. Never thought about that. And for the tea, that sounds yummy too, I'll see If I can find it. You guys are awesome!!!
  • I agree with the above. Small regular meals. I couldn't eat meat, starch and veggies in one sitting so ate them separately. I stomached potato and rice very well. I found if I skipped a snack I'd feel more sick. I had salt rice crackers, dried chickpeas and peppermints on hand for emergency snacks as I'm on the go in my job.
  • Just watch your caffeine intake with the tea! ;)
  • My Dr gave some some meds to help with nausea but I've also found that ginger tea really helps. Found decaf one at walmart.
