Shaving for the OB

Am I the only one that shaves like it's their first date every time they go to the OBGYN? LOL I don't think I give this much attention to shaving for my husband but something about going there makes me feel like I am going to be judged. IDK thought it was funny wanted to share. Going to the OB today hope we get an ultrasound.

  • I usually try to keep it all neat regardless, but pregnancy brings out my lazy side so appt days are usually my motivation to stop being lazy.

I tried throughout my last pregnancy, it got extremely difficult after about 26wks. You would think the belly was the problem, in reality it was the vaginal varicose veins that caused the biggest problems. Pregnancy is oh so glamorous.

  • My first appointment is today I'm hoping my pants go off! lol. At least my last pregnancy the first sonogram was transvaginal and I really want an ultrasound for peace of mind with everything.

  • I call it the anniversary/gynecologist shave...because those are the only times I'm this thorough. I was kind of wondering when I can get lazy. I'm a nurse too and I always feel so stupid primping because I know they aren't looking at my grooming job at all

I am also a nurse so I know they don't really care. I have gone through phases. There was a time when I didn't shave or trim and now I have been doing it more regularly (well except for recently because I feel lazy ). My husband doesn't care one way or the other if I shave or not.

Oh, and when I say shave I mean I use Nair or Veet the hair removal creams. I have always been paranoid about cutting myself down there while shaving so I rarely use a razor. Plus as a nurse I have seen some nasty public infections from shaving accidents

  • I also bought a a bunch of new fun socks...grooming and socks are the only way to make a good impression in that position :-p
Hahaha! I need to buy some socks!

  • I'll be getting waxed through out this pregnancy so hopefully everything stays looking decent down there.
  • Lol this is great! I was about to ask this question cause i got my appointment tomorrow and i didn't know what i was gonna do yet! :3 I like the sock idea.... gonna have to pick up some new cute ones!
  • Haha yep I so do this. Normally im all clean shavin down there but lately I've been to sick & tired to do anything with myself. Lol
  • I used to feel like I should clean up down there, but now I specifically don't shave for OB/GYN visits.  My reasoning is that my skin is a lot smoother and less irritated when I shave less frequently, so I'd rather "use up" a shave day for a night when it matters more to me and DH.  I figure the ultrasound techs have seen the whole range and probably don't mind my hairiness.

Lol!! I shave like its date night!!!! :\">
  • I get my kitty all pretty before an appointment too. This may be wierd...but have any of you with male partners ever seen him shave his balls? My husband and I have a double shower and we usually shower together. The skin on the balls seems so thin so when my husband whips out the razor and does it so quickly I can't help but cringe lol

I wish I could nair! I tried it once on my legs with the sensitive skin one and it tore me up, I looked like a burn victim.

And I'm terrified to wax down there especially with all the extra blood flow...but that really is the move if you can handle it.
  • I usually do shave down there before I go and anytime i go to my boyfriends and know there maybe some action going.
A lot of my socks have holes in there. I really should splurge and buy new ones

  • @JustinsLovo‌ that's a really good point about the pants off today from sandy banana. Everything I've done so far has been pants off and stuff in my vagina. But what's done is done if you're dressed and ready then screw it. Or luckily we're still limber enough to do a quick shave in the sink. (I'm not classy)

My legs are actually more sensitive to it than my groin, never had a problem there
  • Haha I felt ridiculous for doing this. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

  • For my first appointment I called ahead and they made it seem like they were just going to ask questions and take blood so I didn't tidy up- even my legs were grizzly.

When I got there it turned out that she did a pelvic exam and I was stripped down and very hairy lol. Good first impression!

Did this make anyone else gag? I can tolerate the vag being called many things, but not kitty. ::retches:: image

the "p" word truly makes me gag.

  • Eh. To each their own. I can't call it the "p" either.
  • Dang it. Now I need to shave! I forgot they'd be all up in my business!

I don't shave but wax regurally for the last five years or so. I try to schedule my appointments around the waxing schedule. It will be harder now with the frequency of the appointments, but a good wax job lasts me some 3 weeks so no biggy. I get brazilians only in summer time, but a nice trim and a clean scape makes me feel good about myself lol.

Now I'm convinced we go to the same practice. Lol. At least we are both in good (hairy) company.

  • I shaved meticulously every appointment with my first even if it took forever which is definitely did. I'd like to with this one as well because I feel more comfortable that way but now that I have DS I have a lot less time to do so. So I wouldn't be surprised if I don't keep up

  • Oh Geez!! I forgot about the "in-my-business" exams!!  My first birth was a srtrictly hands off midwife and she didn't see my vag until she checked me during labor (at a 10+ ready to push!)  This time I'm going to a midwife practice for a hospital birth and am definitely going to have to trim the hedges.  DH is going to be ecstatic!  lol

  • I got a really judgey lecture at a Planned Parenthood once for shaving. WTF? Now I just make sure I'm showered and wearing cleanish socks. I've been trying to get over the self-consciousness regarding my ladybits because it's a waste of time and worry, and really nobody's business but mine. And I guess DH's, when I'm feeling generous.
