you can give them a small amount of water when offering solids. you can start out directly with straw cups. they're better for your LO's oral development. we like take and toss straw cups-- they're very inexpensive and widely available (wal-mart, amazon). avoid sippy cups with a valve, since they're bad for their ears.
i've decided it's probably time to start a sippy cup?
when did you start them?
what did you put in it?
LO is so far EBF/breastmilk in bottles
I started the sippys around this time. I only did water or water/w juice. I never put breastmilk or formula in the sippys. Around a year, I did give them some milk in the sippys, but we are just not big milk drinkers here.
My thinking was-I bf, but because I worked outside the home, they were used to bm and formula in bottles. They went off the bottle easily at a year and I kept nursing till self-weaning. They were used to the cup so it was never an issue.
Re: sippy cup?
With DD we did water when we got the OK from the pedi. With DS, we will try BM since he refuses all bottles.
