Doing ultrasound twice in a month

Hi everyone.. I am wondering if it's not harmful to my baby if I done ultrasound twice in a month.. My first ultra sound was when i was 14 weeks pregnant.. But the doctor asked me to do another one again this month at 17 weeks because there is no report about the develping of my baby.. and she needs to see the ultrasound report ..thats why she wants me to do the ultra sound again.. I feel worried.. is it safe to do it again in the same month?

Re: Doing ultrasound twice in a month

  • Hi! I've had numerous ultrasounds since I became pregnant, last week I had three plus two fetal heart doplers, since I was having spotting. Each ultrasound, baby is wiggling away happy as a clam and I still feel her moving. If there seems to be an issue or doctor needs information, they will suggest an ultrasound that is quick and just to verify everything is ok. :)

  • I've only had one so far. I'm counting down the days until the anatomy scan. Your doc just needs some info and like PPs have said, some get them every visit. Hope all is well!
  • I've had numerous ultrasounds done as well since I've been pregnant and that will most likely continue. I'm not worried about having frequent ultrasounds done at all.
  • Because of the way my appointments are set up I usually end up with 2 ultrasound in 1 week.

  • If they are harmful, my poor little one is coming out with extra limbs too. I have one every month with the MFM doctor and sometimes an extra if my OB wants to look. I have heard some women opt out of ultrasounds because they can be harmful; however, I haven't seen the data or lack thereof myself. My SIL's doctor mentioned they don't use doppler much because of the heat they emit to the fetus. I had never heard of that one either.

Tl;dr I get ultrasounds often and still use my dopper.

My OB told me that his doppler emits more heat than the US machines and even then the doppler isn't much. I asked about the Doppler usage for peace of mind between appointments. His response to that was the biggest concern with my using the Doppler is not picking up the heartbeat and experiencing unneeded stress.

It seems to me that if there were a correlation in US usage and defects or miscarriage there would be some research by now. I am still careful with my Doppler usage because I think at-home dopplers are relatively new and I worry that there isn't enough research into the frequent use of them. That said, I was glad to have mine today after spotting this morning.
  • I had one 2 days after my first ultrasound due to bleeding and my baby seems fine.. I think if it was harmful your doctor likely wouldn't do it
  • I've had several and will be having them every two weeks. I'd say enjoy the chance to see your LO again. :)
  • I'm 14 weeks and I have had 5 so far. We will have 2 more next month. I had just as many with my first and he is a happy, healthy 7 year old now.
