Question/Intro sort of? Canadian

Hello, I was just looking for some guidance, personal experience or any input you could provide for me regarding adopting within Canada, specifically Ontario. DH and I are both 29 and we are just starting to look into adopting. We have no children yet but are trying very hard to grow our family.

My oldest sister (she lives in BC) adopted her baby girl from China about 4yrs ago and doesn't really know how to help me. I've also been considering adopting from the USA, so if any Canadians have any tidbits I would greatly appreciate you taking the time to respond.

  • Hello there! I don't have much to offer in terms of advice or experience, but I am also located in Ontario. I have been lurking on this board and actually just figured it is time for me to intro. We just started our process of exploring adoption. Some basic reading I have been doing regarding the process is probably similar to what you have done. I did read somewhere that international adoption from the U.S. can be quite expensive, upwards to $20,000-$50,000. But that was just one place I read that. At this point we have decided to start with our local CAS. Submitted out application a couple of weeks ago and just got a call today to schedule our first appointment. Our original call we were told first interview, then put on wait list for PRIDE training, which is 6-9 months, the home study and then ready for match. GL

Thats great, sounds like you have got the ball rolling. I think I will have to call FACS, I imagine thats who we would be dealing with..I hope that the training and home study go smoothly for you.

  • Welcome! I don't have advice for you but I'm a birthmom in a very open adoption so I'm here to answer questions from the other side should you have them.
