Pregnant after a Loss

When did you start wearing maternity jeans?

I'm just curious, when did you actually break down and start wearing maternity pants?  I haven't gained very much weight, but I am starting to get a big "gut" (this is what I call it b/c I know it isn't baby yet), and I have to admit that I can't wait for the day that it is acceptable to wear comfortable, stretchy-waisted maternity pants.

I actually ordered some yesterday b/c Old Navy was having a sale, but I swore when I ordered that that I wouldn't even think about wearing them for at least several more weeks... So, when did you start wearing yours?

BTW... I am 12w1d.

Re: When did you start wearing maternity jeans?

  • I don't much care for pants, lol. I wore skirts and dresses up until today when I am wearing my maternity dress slacks. My work pants stopped fitting right with a BeBand around 13/14 weeks though, so if it had been cold here I would have made the switch then.

  • I started last week - 13 weeks.  I can still wear my normal shorts and jeans, but the full panel capris I bought are so darn comfortable I find myself wearing them.

  • I started wearing the full panel ones at about 4 1/2 months. That was the day a great sigh of relief was heard all over my city. Seriously, I wish I hadn't waited so long. They are sooo comfortable.
  • I started around 12w, I think. My regular shorts and pants would fit when I put them on the morning, but by the evening they were very uncomfortable, so I made the switch.

  • I started at 8 weeks :(

I actually wear my pants and shirts more fitted anyways, so I didn't have much room to grow at all, so I had to get them around 8 weeks b/c my bloat was so bad. I never gained any weight actually until around 18 weeks, but the bloat was making my gut stick over my jeans and that was not attractive LOL :)

I tell you though, maternity pants are SOOO much more comfy! I think all pants should have a panel :)

This.  I wore skirts and dresses all summer.  I did get a couple pairs of capris in bigger sizes (Not maternity) sometime in early 2nd tri.  After I grew out of those I haven't worn jeans since!  Now that it's getting cooler though I am going to have to get a pair for the next few weeks.

  • I used my Belly Band until about 15 weeks - I went through the same thing you are going through. I would definitely recommend the band, maybe some dresses, and then throw in a pair of maternity pants here and there. That's what I did! I completely converted to maternity pants, leggings, and dresses at about the 15 week mark. I still don't have a huge bump but it's definitely enough to not fit in any of my regular pants AT ALL anymore.

  • I actully started wearing maternity pants early on like 8 weeks because of my bloat.  Most people were none the wiser since I got maternity (semi panel) maternity jeans.  I didn't want to deal with the bella band and have ease with getting on and off my jeans.

The tip for me was not to get jeans that are all stretchy or they slide off of me.  Just the panel being the stretchy part.   They looked and fitted like my non pregnancy jeans.  Some even had decals on the back pocket and such.  I ended up wearing them through most of my pregnancy.  I didn't at the last month since I did not work and it is summer here.

I will get more use from them since it is starting to cool off with the impending fall weather and I will still have a belly for a while post pregnancy.

  • I think I got away with my Belly Band/rubber hair binders until about 23 weeks....then made the transition to maternity pants.  I didn't really like the Belly Band for me because the band would always ride up in the back and the waistband of my pants would drop down/pucker weird.  So I was CONSTANTLY re-adjusting and it drove me nuts.  I found that my normal pants worked fine with a couple elastic hair binders to bridge the gap.  I really like maternity pants because the panel is so comfortable.  You can just let it all hang out and no worry of pant waistbands cutting into your waist.  Otherwise I wore a LOT of dresses this summer so I didn't have to worry about it much.
  • with Aidan I waited until about 13 weeks. I love the stretchy waist. lol This time because of the progesterone and my incision hurting, I was in them at about 6 weeks.  Work pants I'm saying in my maternity pants, but nugget has moved up just enough that I can wear my regular jeans again.

  • Thanks for the input, ladies!  I guess I shouldn't feel bad if I start transitioning into them in the next couple of weeks.

And good idea with the dresses!  I have a couple that my sister gave me (she is a little bigger than me) that aren't technically maternity, but they have the empire waist (I think that is what it is called), so they will probably work for at least a little bit of time.

  • Gaucho pants were my best friend during my first trimester.  I really hated the belly band, so I am pretty sure I just went straight to maternity pants at around 12 weeks.  They are so comfortable that I couldn't resist!

  • I started around 13w.  My regular pants were just too tight.  I needed by b-band to hold them up though.  They were so much more comfy.  If you're okay with it start wearing them!
