Stomach issues!!! Maybe TMI :-/

hey everyone

Just wanna see if any mommies to be are dealing with stomach issues. For example: had a kinda fatty lunch (though not a ton of food persay), directly after I had horrible cramps/gas pains and ended up on the toilet for almost an hour! Thought maybe I was coming down with something. Anyway, I never ever have stomach issues, I can eat just about anything. Also had my first bought of heartburn ever (ahhhh!), I literally thought I was having a heart attack. Haha. Sorry to be so dramatic but I don't usually have any issues like this with heartburn, indigestion or stomach issues after eating. So anyone else wanna share???

Same here - used to be able to have anything and I was doubled over from awful gas the other evening for over an hour. I ate spaghetti with tomato sauce; turns out i'm not the only one with spaghetti intolerance while pregnant. See here: https://www.whattoexpect.com/blogs/babiesonthebraintoddlerontheloose/could-gas-during-pregnancy-really-be-that-painful-

Interestingly, they say fats and proteins aren't the main culprit, but certain carbs, specifically potatoes and wheat.

Since that episode, I've upped my fiber and water intake and have been eating smaller meals throughout the day. I've also tried to reduce wheat. Rice doesn't seem to bother me.

I haven't had any painful gas since then but I'm still super bloated and as my uterus inches upwards, it's just getting worse. I look about five months along, but I know it's just bloat.  Even my U/S tech said "there's a lot of bowel going on" (I thought to myself, "tell me about it!").

I've also been drinking mint tea at least once a day. That seems to seriously help.

    Good luck!

  • I have problems with my stomach all of the time. Lactose intolerance is the pits. I can say however, that I have had heartburn just since I've been pregnant (FTM). The ONLY thing that works for me is a glass of (water bottle that I keep in the fridge at all times) water. I woke up the other night at about 330 and remembered my aunt saying that cold water was a natural antacid. I crossed my fingers that it would work and low and behold the heartburn was gone within five minutes. I will never not have a bottle of water in the fridge again, it was a miracle worker. Sorry I couldn't help with the tummy trubs, as I struggle with them myself. BUT the cold water really does work for heartburn. Good luck!!!
  • I ate a banana last weekend and had the same thing happen. A banana!! :-O

I'm not new to stomach issues - I have IBS which causes bad stomach cramps and diarrhea often. In the first 9 or so weeks of pregnancy I was so constipated and didn't experience any IBS problems. But now if I eat anything even slightly greasy I will be in major pain for the next hour or more. It's awful.

    me too!
I'm also allergic to wheat, corn, and soy, and I have to be REALLY careful about dairy. And now that I'm pregnant, if I'm not on my best behavior my body flips out.

  • I have indigestion and diarrhea often. That doesn't bother me as much as the hemorrhoids that go along with it!! I know it's totally TMI... But they didn't get bad until the end of my first pregnancy. Such an uncomfortable bummer.
  • I'm so glad you posted this. I had a greasier than normal lunch and had cramps all night! I didn't know it could be pregnancy related.

  • Ha! I had my first episode of heartburn with my son, and I too thought I was having a heart attack! That stuff is for the birds. Sadly, both of my kids gave me terrible heartburn. And the biggest trigger was chocolate or Oreos. Total devistation for a preggo.
  • I go from constipated for a couple days to cramps followed by multiple bouts of diarrhea the next day. Rinse and repeat. It's not fun.

Tums are my friend for indigestion. Never had it before I was pregnant.

  • @Sunshine4020 Bananas, potatoes and white pasta are on my "no-fly" list!!  (All things I love...  Doubt I'll ever learn to crave All-Bran instead.)
  • I've had terrible cramping and indigestion that has caused me to be in tears! No one food or type of food triggers it for me..but sometimes it's so uncomfortable, even sleeping or sitting down hurts. Tums have been a lifesaver with heartburn

This is me right now. Add in vomitting. I'm on my third round where I'm sick for days then ok for a few. Dr is now thinking I get constipated and my body overreacts. Really hoping this new course of anti-nauseant pills and fibre pills do the trick. I'm sick of being sick.

  • im glad im not the only one dealing with weird stomach stuff. the typical morning sickness nausea has subsided. its just this weird sensitive stomach.
  • Pregnancy messes with your stomach big time. I never once had heartburn before I got pregnant. Totally normal- not fun- but normal.

  • Certain foods have definitely been screwing with my stomach. Just a part of the pregnancy fun.

  • Every once in a while I'll get really bad gas pains but I won't be able to "release" it. Then I have to drink some peppermint tea. It really helps to disapate the bubbles. When I'm not really in the mood for tea, I'll just do a small amount of water and concentrate the peppermint tea, still gets the job done.
