Stupid Question Sunday

If your doctor or Mr. Google don't have any answers for your stupid questions, hopefully the ladies of A15 will.

My stupid question;
Why are crib sheets white or light colored? You would think between blowouts, pee, snot & spitup darker colors would be a better option. Or do you just bleach everything?

Re: Stupid Question Sunday

  • I don't have any white/cream crib sheets. Mine are mostly patterned with browns and khakis.

  • I have one brown and white polka dot sheet from target. I never had an issue though.
  • I prefer lighter sheets, because you can see if it is dirty. I spot clean stubborn stains with shout, and wash warm or hot.

How do you make a padsicle?

I used aloe and witch Hazel. I used a spoon to wipe the stuff of the pad, aloe first. Then wrapped them in freezer paper and froze them. I used them and they were ok, but not as good as the cold pads you get in the hospital!

Pour some witch hazel on a pad and freeze it. I had the stuff to make them last time but wound up with a c section so I didn't need them.

  • Kind of personal question so I apologize however I peed last night and when I wiped there were two small red strings of blood, very small. It hasn't happened again since then and I've felt movement from the baby. Would you ladies call the dr. or would you wait to see if it was just a one time thing?

Isn't this the same as a tucks pad?

Yes, but you do it with a big maxi pad and you can wear them in your underwear.

My padsickles were different from what everyone else is saying. Mine were newborn diapers with the end with the tabs cut open, then ice poured in the inside, tabs folded over to keep it from leaking. The diaper kept it from melting and getting everything wet. Then I just used witch hazel pads where needed.

  • @MandieLeeS123‌ my Dr told me if its not enough blood to fill up a maxi pad, its not something to freak out over. Just mention it to your Dr at your next check, if you are very concerned then call today.
  • Thank you ladies for the sheet cleaning tips.
  • Babies poop at all times including at night. Some babies are probably more routine then others. We bought a diaper pail and kept it next to the changing table. It was really nice to have. Especially when you are tired or the weather is bad and you don't feel like taking a stinky diaper outside.

Do babies poop overnight in a regular scenario? I would expect it if they're sick, etc. I'm trying to figure out where to put the diaper pail. During the day, poops are just going in the outside trash so they don't atink up the house, but if there's poop overnight I'm not going all the way downstairs to put the diaper outside.

I honestly don't remember the really early days, but DS has only pooped once overnight and he was sick.

It was very rare for DS to poop at night. And he never has since he was an infant. But on the plus side, BF baby poop really doesn't smell. It starts to smell when you add in solids. And by then, baby probably isn't pooping at night.

  • Is there a better position you've found that you can feel baby move in the early weeks?

  • How worried should I be that I found myself laying on my stomach this morning? I got uncomfortable (probably what woke me up) and rolled over. Ever since I've been super paranoid. I haven't felt the baby move yet, either and google hasn't been much help.
  • Has anyone shared a room with their baby? We're in a tight living space right now, and will be having to share our tiny bedroom with the baby. I'm still trying to figure out how we'll fit everything, so if anyone's done it before, I need some tips!

@saltbox40‌ I made these ones and used them during the day for just under 2 weeks. They were awesome! https://intheknowmom.net/diy-padsicles-musthave-postpartum-item/
ETA: I always took a frozen padscicle out of the freezer about 30 minutes before I'd need it so it was easier to open up for use.

My breastfed newborn pooped almost every time she fed. The nice thing about poop from exclusively breastfed babies is that it isn't really that stinky... Like spoiled milk basically. I would simply take out all the night's dirty diapers in the morning. In fact, if I had a diaper pail with special bags (or other scented bags), I wouldn't use those bags until I noticed a bad smell from the dirty diapers. You'll really burn through those bags when LO starts solids and has stinky poos!

  • Is anyone still dealing with not having a taste for anything/not really wanting to eat/unsure what to eat bc you are hungry and nauseous at the same time? Bc i still am and it's awful and it's usually the only time i throw up any more. Mainly bc i can't get food/stomach food to prevent this from happening. What have you been doing in this situation? This really only happens when i wake up.

I would not worry. If you're having an otherwise healthy and normal pregnancy, your body will wake you up if you need to move. That's the advice my doctor gave me.

  • @theinvadermothership‌ Yeah, I've experienced this off and on too. I just force myself to have a small, healthy bite to eat and after a short while (15-60 minutes) things would get better. And now, my stomach is feeling squished, so I don't sense my hunger like I usually do. It's weird and I don't like it :(

  • I hated padsicles. They felt soggy. I only used the dermaplast spray and a dry pad once I got home from the hospital. In the hospital the best nurse ever gave me a newborn diaper filled with ice chips and had me put that in my undies. That hurt so good.

You're right, padscicles aren't as absorbent because you've already soaked them in stuff. For me, having to change out the pad more often was totally worth the feeling of relief from the cold pad.

  • I didn't need ice. I didn't even use an ice pack in the hospital. Dermaplast mostly is what I used. I didn't use any witch hazel either. I had an easy recovery though...
  • @lexyraejay‌ @lovemymuttzillas‌ Thanks! I'll have to try some of these tricks. Unfortunately and fortunately I've been a pretty good, solid sleeper, so i don't wake up much. But i try and eat when i do.

My biggest complaint is i never know what to buy to keep in the house bc I've felt like this constantly since 7 weeks.

@alexis95‌ If you can measure the spot you're thinking of putting the crib/PNP/bassinet, that should help narrow down which one of those you can fit in your room. We borrowed a bassinet from my SIL but if we didn't have that wewould have just used the PNP with the mattress set on the bassinet level. If we had to keep baby in our room, I'd just keep using the PNP and just move the mattress down to the standard level when LO gets close to learning to pull him/herself up. You also learn how to move silently like a ninja in your room to avoid waking up baby!

My relationship with food (eating and buying it) is very forced! I have to make myself eat and buy healthy stuff because I'd just be standing there in my kitchen or grocery store with a blank stare on my face if I tried to go with my appetite at the moment.

I was going to ask about the padsicles not being as absorbent, but that seems to have been answered.

My next question, is there any way to toughen up nipples before baby gets here for breastfeeding? Or will the act of breastfeeding toughen them up alone? My grandmother keeps saying if the baby is as big as your husband you will want to toughen up your nipples because he will want to eat a lot. Ugh.

No, do not attempt to toughen up your nipples. That will be a lot of pain for no gain. The first few weeks is tough, but your nipples were made for breastfeeding. They were built for the job. No training/preparation needed.

I do recommend Lanolin before nursing/pumping session, especially in the beginning.
The lanolin can be pretty thick, especially if you're in a cooler climate. I always squeezed what I wanted onto my pointer fingertip and touched it with my thumb for a couple seconds to soften it up for easier application.

  • @lexyraejay‌ omg, i understand this so well. I do try and buy healthy snacks but unfortunately there has been a lot of bad fruit thrown out bc i don't get to it. And crackers never did much for me, but maybe granola bars will. I eat a lot of toast.

Finally eating a salad now and hoping DH will wanna get that anniversary dinner we didn't have on our actual anniversary. Again, thanks so much for the suggestions!

  • What is the difference between maternity bras and regular bras? I am needing to size up, but I don't know which type would be better to go with.

I'm not entirely sure the difference, maybe underwire? But I sized up with regular bras and I'm happy with the choice. When I'm looking down the barrel at a year's worth of nursing bras, I feel better about wearing a nice, pretty regular bra while I can.

  • Does anyone else have a very dear wonderful BFF who has been distancing themselves from you since finding out you were pregnant? We have been like sisters for years. We were in each other's weddings, the first call when we each got engaged, my rock when my mom died. I'm sure it is because she is having some medical problems of her own which has postponed her own plans to start a family. When I call I try not to even bring up my pregnancy. I ask how she is doing and if there have been any changes or updates to her stuff. We will chat and there is never any mention of my pregnancy. I'm trying not to throw it in her face or dominate any conversations or outings with pregnancy related details. I know she is happy for us and will eventually come around. But in the meantime, how do I keep our friendship from going south? I miss my BFF. We don't talk much and see each other even less. I'm lost without her. Any advice would be appreciated. Sorry for the dear diary post. I posted here rather than starting a thread. I'm hoping that others have gone through this and have some advice for me.
