My favorite boy's name is "Ihaveapenis."? Don't take it, though.? If my next baby is a girl, I'm using it.

I love that name, but it's soo popular now. I don't want her to be one of five Ihaveapenises in her class or be called Ihaveapenis N.?

I'm not a fan of boy names for girls or of unisex names, period. That said, I teach at a middle school and have seen tons of boy names for girls this year. We have a Drew, Malone, Max, and Ryan. All girls.

    ?

Ditto this poster. ?boys names for boys and girls names for girls. ?end of story. ?

    Ryan, Shannon, Shawn

Being a Shannon myself, I know 3 male Shannon's and 2 female Shannon's (not including myself), I like it either way.

My favorite name right now is Carey and I like it for boy or girl.

  • Like pp said, if there is a "feminine" spelling of unisex name why you you spell it with the masculine version? ?Just seem confusing. ?I knew a male Erin in college and I always thought it was wierd no one spelled it the right way.
  • Did you know that Ashley, Evelyn, Vivian and Jocelyn were all once male names?

I love Adair, Avery, Brynn, Channing, Drew, Kellan, Quinn, Reese, Tate

  • I like unisex names that could go either way (obviously my DD is Finley) but not straight boys names like Aaron, etc.

Unisex names I like are: Cameron, Casey (Kacie, whatever), Avery, Kendall, Riley

BTW-My DH's name is Tracy and he never had any problems with having a unisex (I think more fem. name).

  • I agree with PP, I would pick a girls name with a "boy" nn.  My DD's name is Maxine after my grandmother, we plan on calling her max when she is older, that's what my grandmother went by.  If we have more girls i'd like a "boy nn theme.  Theodora= Teddie, Alice= Al, Charlene= Charlie, Gilberta= Gil, Joesphine= Jo, Thomasina= Tommy, Samantha= Sam, Roberta= Bobby/ Robbie, Veronica= Ronnie

  • I am not sure I would name my little girl a unisex boy name for her first name. But my name is Ashley Shane and I really love my middle name even though technically it is a boy's name. My grandmother picked it out for me and I would love to pass it on to my daughter as a middle name since my Grandmother died when I was 3.

I agree with that you really don't know if your daughter will be able to pull off the name in years. I love the name Kelly for a boy (mostly because I love Kelly Slater) but I never would name my son that.

  • While Erin is the appropriate spelling for a girl I will say that I still have to spell my name 99% of the time.  People are stupid.  I used to get really upset as a kid because half of my Valentines would have Aaron spelled on them.  Name your kid whatever name you like.
  • Cameron?  Corey?  Dalton?  Ryan?  Peyton?  Riley?  Russell?
  • Hmmm considering Lauren, Ashley, Leslie, Shannon, Kelly and many others were originally male names I don't understand why so many people are against naming girls male names.

Personally I love uber-feminine names with masculine nicknames

    Charlotte - Charlie

    Samantha - Sam

    Franchesca - Frankie

    Frederika - Fred

    Mallory- Mal

    Maxine - Max

    Danielle - Danny

    Josephine - Jo

  • As an Eryn, I think it's a really stupid idea to name a girl Aaron. I hate when people spell my name that way. It is a boy's name.?

Perhaps because of my experience with my name, I hate unisex names. They cause unnecessary issues. And I would never give my girl a boy name.?

  • Honestly, I really dont like unisex names at all.  I like names for girls that sound girly and would never be mistaken for a boy.
  • EVAN??? FOR A GIRL??? Seriously... that's like naming your daughter "Steve" or "Fred". ?

?I think the unisex/boys-names-for-girls thing has gone overboard. I do like a lot of unisex names, but in my head, they are clearly one or the other... not like I'd pick a unisex name and use it for whatever popped out.?

?I actually know a female Michael. ?I totally thought she was a he on paper, so when someone referred to her as michael, I totally thought they were talking about some guy somewhere. ?I suppose when it's your name, you either embrace it or just deal with it. ?My mom was supposed to be named for her father. ?When she came out a girl, they just added "ette" to the end. ?That was the 1950s version of this conversation! ?

Evanette, Loganette..... maybe the "oops its a girl" -ette suffix could make a comeback with this crowd. ?
