so I have two things both from the more *ahem* colorful side of my family I don't really interact with.. I think it's hilarious in its horribleness and I thought it would be fun to share and hear about things other people have had said to them!
So I have a cousin around my age and we both ride horses. I've been pretty ill the last year and haven't ridden much.. I said something on Facebook about my friend inviting me to ride and finally feeling well enough to do it but jokingly said I didn't think my fetus would appreciate it (all very light hearted). This cousin goes on a rant in the comments about how "u don't have to listen to da doktor" because they don't know what they're talking about and it's perfectly fine to ride up until you give birth because that's how people got around in the old days and they were fine. She then goes further to say that doctors are bullshit and that she rode up until the day she gave birth and that I'm not enjoying and living life just because I'm pregnant... She rode up until the day she gave birth even though her doctor said not to and everything was fine- she gave birth at FIVE MONTHS THREE WEEKS.
Ummm I think I'm just going to play it safe and not go riding like my obgyn says.. Thanks for the excellent advice though!
The other thing isn't really advice but it was just so incredibly ignorant I had to laugh so I wouldn't burst out crying for her son in my hormonal state.
Another cousin has a ten month old and I was telling her about going to a show at a bar a few months back and seeing a heavily pregnant girl chain smoking and drinking woodchuck hard ciders like they were water. I was being a smart ass and I said something about how if you're going to drink heavily and chain smoke while super pregnant you should have some shame and do it at home..
Her reply: "I never quit smoking and I drank out at the bar almost every night the whole time I was pregnant-- but I only drank wine spritzers so it was ok."
Are these people even real??
Re: Just for Fun and laughs- worst advice you've gotten/ thing you've heard another prego say
I'm also generally unnerved by the fact that there is more of a stigma to abstaining than being an effing drunk! Pregnant or not! (For background my DH is almost 1 year sober and it gives you an interesting perspective (pregnant or not) when you get more of an eyebrow raise for turning down wine/beer/shots than when my DH used to down half a bottle of tequila and become a belligerent a-hole!)
Proud Mama to cleft cutie
Lol- man that was years ago, I totally forgot about it until your beer comment!

This stuff blows my mind- like ok my cousin says doctors are stupid and I should just live my life and continue to ride horses (which is just the most dangerous sport, seriously I show jump and I've had two back reconstructions with rods and screws in my lumbar spine, broken my c5 and c6 in my neck and had a traumatic brain injury because even if you're super careful ((which ok I wasn't because I picked arguably the most dangerous part of an already dangerous sport)) horses are animals and they can freak out when you're just walking) because she did and her pregnancy went SO well.. Like bitch you gave birth at five months three weeks, your son was in NICU for seven months and at 20 months he still has to wear oxygen 24/7 because his lungs didn't get a chance to develop. There was no other medical reason why she should have went into labor besides the fact that she went on a nine hour trail ride at the end of her second trimester and she smoked- what on earth makes her think she is the poster child for a healthy pregnancy!?!! The stupidity, oh the stupidity!
Perhaps the hard trail blazing while pretty damn pregnant isn't what caused the preterm labor, but the "stupid doctors" at the university of Michigan hospital seem to think it was, but I just don't understand why you would risk it let alone advocate it to others.
Hell, why even bother to go to the doctor, it's not like they went through 8 years of harrowing post graduated study or anything.. Clearly you dropping out of high school at 16 and struggling to get a GED at 18 makes you just as qualified as them!
I'm glad the women here seem to be erring on the side of caution. I personally just feel like if something does go wrong we probably don't want to have a bunch of things to look back on and think "maybe if I wouldn't have ______..."

Haaahaha
I told my friend that I'm pregnant and she went on about how brave I am to have 2U2... She's not at all ready for a second yet! Fortunately, she explained that she's using breastfeeding as her method of birth control so she has nothing to worry about...
For the record, I know some lovely "normal" SBs and even married one (I'm the dreaded Catholic) so no offense to the good Baptists out there- this is strictly me hating on a particular subset of the nutty ones (I live in Louisiana now and they got some crazy Catholics over on this side of the river).
Jesus, being PC is fucking hard...

However, I'm generally working with horses that are purposely kept hot for the sake of being able to complete full Olympic level courses. I wouldn't want anyone on hot elite horses at any stage of pregnancy because, since you're apparently very skilled, you understand that the risk for injury exists even with the most skilled Olympians.
I err on the side of caution anyway and realize as a former career equestrian that even a trail ride on a quiet horse can go awry. I myself would not ride a quad or go
Snowboarding either, because of anything did happen doing something that is a risk I don't *need* to take I would never forgive myself.
That being said, in the example I gave of my cousin being an idiot, her doctor did tell her specifically not to ride and she chose to go trail blazing for nine hours.. That is fucking stupid.
In any case, I don't think either of us mention our riding ability as a reason for not riding... I had quite a lucrative professional career before I took ill, I just personally wouldn't risk it.
I also don't really think it's an obgyns place to say that your balance is the determining factor in being able to ride- are these obgyn/ professional riders? It seems risky not to mention the glaringly obvious risks associated with any sport, especially one where you're mounted on something with a mind of its own. The professional riders I am close with, medalists from the usa, Ireland and Denmark all stopped riding or recommend that women stop riding at conception because of the risk for an accident and I'm pretty sure they have excellent balance.

One of my cousins decided to change her three month old at our grandfather's funeral.. During the viewing.. On the floor.... In front of the casket. Even better, there was a baby changing station in the rest room.

My bad advice was from a co-worker I'm a high risk pregnancy due to my blood clots and the fact that I'm AB- soy blood isn't dealing well with baby's any way co-worker said she didn't know why I was worried about lifting people (I'm a cna) bc she did it till the week before she dilivered and women use pregnancy to get out if work pissed her off.... I simply looked at her and asked if she had been high risk she laughed said no why LOL.... I said I AM! That's the difference here! That shut her up LOL
