UO

Just because you can legally FF your child as of their first birthday, doesn't mean it's a great idea.

I'm side eyeing the fuck out of someone that did this the first minute they could.

That last part was a confession, obviously.

I'm having such angst over forward facing because Phia is SO tall she's already hitting the back seat with legs bent. The pedi said it's fine to start forward facing when needed given her size but I'm still trying to hold out as long as possible.

I just keep reminding myself that the recommendations to rear face until two are fairly new and before that it was one (back when my sister had my niece). Sure, it's safer to rear face as long as possible but I also don't want her uncomfortable in her seat for too long, either.

More of a confession: I don't understand all that went down with the Bode Miller wife/ex/baby mama thing. I'm trying to read up but wow, other than "oh that's who the celebrity was that I never saw in the pic that got deleted" I don't really care, I guess. Regular baby mamas and wives and GFs do this shit all the time. It's not newsworthy, really, but I do feel bad for the kid.
It's newsworthy because of the legal precedent the CA court made when it gave Bode Miller custody of his unborn child, and stated that the ex girlfriend absconded with her fetus. It was a HUGE blow to the rights of pregnant women to move out of state at their will, and bolstered the fetal personhood movement.
STUPID MOBILE QUOTES See, that to me is newsworthy. All I've heard about is the wife is bashing the baby mama. :(

That's all they want you to hear... is the celebrity side of the story... not how it can/does affect women... (that's as conspiarcy theory as I get)

I believe the placebo effect plays a big part in essential oils. I think they definitely can provide some benefits... but they don't usually work as a replacement for medicine.

I use essential oils and I agree with you. People think they can get rid of viruses. Nope nope nope.

  • @megswen‌ I use them too :) but I'm realistic about it as you are.
  • I will also be rf Matthew until he reaches the rf limits on his car seat. Broken legs are a hell of a lot easier to fix than broken necks/head/spine. I'm not going to put convenience over my child's safety.

My cousin ff her son at 1 year. Moved him to a booster at 2 and now at 4 he only uses a regular seatbelt.. My heart breaks every time I see him in a car but you know she's been a mom longer than me and I don't know shit apparently..

C already has to froggy a little

I giggled at this statement! Love it!
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.
  • I refuse to see a chiro - this is the official position of the American Chiropractic Association on vaccination, which is flat out bullshit:

Resolved, that the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) recognize and advise the public that:

Since the scientific community acknowledges that the use of vaccines
is not without risk, the American Chiropractic Association supports
each individual's right to freedom of choice in his/her own health care
based on an informed awareness of the benefits and possible adverse
effects of vaccination. The ACA is supportive of a conscience clause or
waiver in compulsory vaccination laws thereby maintaining an
individual's right to freedom of choice in health care matters and
providing an alternative elective course of action regarding
vaccination. (Ratified by the House of Delegates, July 1993, Revised and
    Ratified June 1998).

There are also two big chiropractic colleges in the US (one in Florida and one in Southern California) that are decidedly antivax. I refuse to give any organization my money who takes a so decidedly anti-science position.

Re: car seats - my kid will be RF til he's four if I have my way.
Re: SoA - never seen it, no clue who this Jax person is.
Re: EO's - I reported a d.o.te.rra salesperson to the FDA today. My cousin's toddler just got out of the hospital w/ pneumonia aggravated by asthma and this dote.rra fuckwit was suggesting pushing my cousin seriously to buy EO's that are known pulmonary irritants. If a physician reccommended something like that, he or she could lose their medical license. But since EOs are all "natural" and "safe" and home based sales don't require any sort of training, they could've killed my cousin or who knows what other kid. So, yeah, I reported her. Fuck her and her stupid EO's.

FFFC? I've been in the hospital for eight days with a really severe case of fungal pneumonia, among other things. I haven't been able to see LO til today due to isolation (they thought I had TB). The infectious disease docs were still very reluctant to let LO come visit bc I also have a freaking cold and they were worried about "transmission".  I totally pulled the "woman" card and ugly cried and pitched a fit to get the doc to agree to let LO come visit. Don't care. I got my way and finally got to snuggle with my baby. This is probably partly why I got so mad at the EO lady. I seriously JUST got a lecture from my respiratory team about not using any lung irritants due to the pneumonia when I get home and here's this tool suggesting my cousin use them on her toddler. :rage::

(I'm a little cranky. Just FYI)

    Holy crap! Glad you're okay!
  • Oh, and there's this re: chiros and their positions on vaccines:
The anti-vaccine opinions espoused by a small but vocal segment of the chiropractic profession has not gone unnoticed by allopathic medicine. The Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS)65 published a position statement on chiropractic in general and on the subject of chiropractic and vaccination in particular. The statement, published in 2002 and reaffirmed in 2012, referenced a survey of American chiropractors that reported one-third of respondents believed there was no scientific proof that immunization prevents disease, that immunization has not substantially changed the incidence of any major disease and that immunization causes more disease than it prevents.

  • Holy crap @DebateThis‌! Hope you feel better real soon!
  • @DebateThis‌ I hope you feel better soon lady. I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well!
  • @DebateThis‌ Yikes! I knew you weren't feeling well, but it sounds like things deteriorated quite a bit! How did H and your H do all that time while you were away? Are you going home soon?
Yep. I got sick at the beginning of October. Turned into what I thought was bronchitis around H's birthday. Got antibiotics, still didn't get better. Last Friday I got REALLY sick and wound up in the ER and getting transferred by ambulance to another hospital. I was pretty sure I had pneumonia by that point but I figured they'd order me a nebulizer and send me home. NOPE! Chest xray showed a bunch of "lesions" so all of a sudden all the docs and nurses are in full gowns/masks/gloves and off I go to isolation.

I had a lung biopsy on Monday and it showed that the pneumonia is fungal. We're waiting for full results to come back but the docs are leaning toward blastomycosis. I had some complications with the biopsy (pleurisy, which is nbd but made me feel like I was having a heart attack for two days) and then I managed to catch adenovirus so I got stuck BACK in isolation Thursday.

Now I have some awful GI side effects to my new meds. I have to be on them for 6-12 mos (!!) so they're trying to figure out how to manage all this before I can go home.

    Harumph.
