Considering renting newborn cloth diapers

We have decided we will not cloth diaper kiddo because our daycare does not accept cloth diapers. However, I am considering cloth for the newborn phase since kiddo won't go to daycare until he is three months old.

My question -- Has anyone used the Modern Cloth newborn rental? Thoughts? Positives? Negatives?

Re: Considering renting newborn cloth diapers

  • I haven't looked into the rental thing.

However, I will say that nb cloth retain their resale value awesomely, so I'd purchase, use and resell! You'll likely make back a good portion of your investment, and it may end up being significantly cheaper than renting.

  • tabitha722 Selling and reselling is something I will have to look into. I'm not sure it's for me for the same reasons I prefer holding a garage sale or simply donating items, as opposed to dealing with listing, haggling, shipping or pickup of single items. It has to be a pretty big pay off for me to deal with the inconvenience. I also think I like the guarantee from a rental, since I'm totally new to diapering.

jcar2 I will check out Itsy Bitsy Bums too! Modern Cloth refunds the deposit (about 1/4 - 1/3 of the cost) in 100% store credit or 85% cash.
  • I have researched a diapering service, and would totally do it if I could afford it. It turned out to be the priciest option by far.
