Hated Thanksgiving Foods

I'm bored... let's rant about the Thanksgiving foods that everyone serves and we each can't stand.

I hate sweet potatoes.  I don't care how you prepare them I think they are disgusting.  However, I am making them as a side for DH's family dinner because we were asked to bring a side and it's what he wants.  Yuck!!

  • I don't really care for turkey. *ducks*

I dislike traditional stuffing too- all soggy and yuck. My mom is famous for her stuffing and I don't get it- it's just a big pile of mush. I have a sausage stuffing recipe, though, with big cubes of chewy bread and leeks and heavy cream and garlic and other wonderful things that I've been making for a few years now and it rocks.

    Pregnancy 2: BFP on 11/5/14 - Baby #2 due on 7/17/15!
In between pregnancies, I've grown to love my "other" baby. The "carb baby", that's taken permanent residence in my belly, thanks to my overzealous love of bread, pasta and pastries. Hence my name. :)
  • My girl-card might get taken away, but I HATE pumpkin-flavored-things. Including my MIL's famous from-scratch no-artificial-anything pumpkin pie.

    Blech.

If you're looking around wondering where everyone is, PM me.
  • I second green bean casserole. With morning sickness just the thought is enough to make me run to the bathroom. It looks like green beans coated in gray snot. UGH!
  • I usually fill my plate up with all the things. If I don't like something after trying it, I will leave the rest of that food on my plate, pretend that I'm full, and then go back and get more of the things that I liked about 15 minutes later.

  • I love all foods EXCEPT green bean casserole. The kind with creamy soup and those crunchy onions. SO. EFFING. GROSS. I really do hate that dish. It will never touch my Thanksgiving plate. I don't care if you grew the beans in your garden and slaved all day over a hot stove making your own crispy onions. Don't care.

I also don't really care for pumpkin pie or pecan pie. They are so sickeningly sweet. Yuck. I mean, I will eat a piece to be nice, especially if someone made it from scratch. But I"m not enjoying it.

I am making my own cranberry sauce this year, but you better believe I will have canned on hand as well. I love that crap. Complete childhood memory.

  • I don't like stuffing or cranberry sauce.

My thanksgiving plate usually looks like:
Turkey and ham, half the plate full of mashed potatoes, pickles, olives, and everything smothered in gravy. It's actually more of a gravy soup with how much I put on my food. Mmm, gravy...

If there is green bean casserole I'll take a little bit. My step mom has a way of ruining food for me by making it every single time we come to dinner though. She switches off to something new every few months or so. Green bean casserole is one of those foods.
  • Jello anything.... DH's aunt serves a jello salad every year and although I've actually never tried it I just can't understand why/how that is a thanksgiving food. Pass me the stuffing though!

  • Pumpkin pie. I've never even tasted it but it looks like vomit to me.

Stuffing is my favorite unless people ruin it by putting in the gizzards and whatever other guts come inside the bird. Or oysters. Why would you put oysters in stuffing?
