Pregnant after 35

Feeling disappointed..

Had my NT Scan yesterday and the tech was making casual conversation.  She asked me what I was hoping for and I said, I'd love another boy, but I'd be just as happy with a girl.  She said "Looks like you're going to get your way."  I look back to the screen and she has, what appears, to be a boy shot in view.   It's WAY too early right?  I always thought boys and girls basically have the same looking parts at that age.   We were supposed to find out as a family and I feel like she took it away.  I'm probably overreacting, but feeling a bit down.

Re: Feeling disappointed..

  • How far along are you? At 14 weeks they did an u/s and it looked like boy parts. But 4 weeks later it was all girl.
But I hate that she may have ruined it for ya'll as a family.

  • Thanks, Mandy.  That's actually comforting.  We are still at a 50/50 shot and I can ignore her prediction (even if it turns out to be right ;-) ).  I'm only 12 weeks 4 days!

  • Dr guessed my son at 12 weeks and was right, but most won't make an assumption at that age.

  • I would think what you saw was probably not boy parts. The tech at our ultrasound at 12 weeks confirmed that baby was a boy only because we knew from the early blood test. She specifically said if she didn't know the results of the blood test she would not have said anything, that it was too early. You also essentially said that you didn't have a preference so her response fits with either a boy or a girl bc you'd be happy either way. Sorry you are feeling down!
  • @Lazzlee79 That would actually infuriate me. I don't think that's a piece of information (accurate or not) that should be tossed out in casual conversation at a time when you didn't request it, especially if you had plans for the reveal to be made with the whole family present. I don't think you're overreacting.

But, it's early and she might've gotten it wrong, so try to ignore it! :)

  • She might get lucky and be right but I think at that gestation it's hard to tell.  She probably should not have told you that or if she did.. she should have said that she guesses it may be a boy but I totally hear what you're saying. There's so much anticipation for the big anatomy scan.. it's exciting and you plan to take your spouse with you and so I can see how you feel that she ruined it. I might feel the same way.

Oh sorry, I wasn't clear.  She specifically said boy.  I didn't go through the entire dialogue.  I feel better knowing it might be too soon to tell.  I just had an idea in my head that we were going to find out together as a family and felt bummed. :)

Thank you! I've been googling to see if that's even part of the NT Scan or if she was just curious herself?  :)

I can't believe how many stories like this I've read on TB about techs who try to guess the sex so early.
Maybe they like to "show off" their skills, but it just seems really bold and setting up families for confusion/disappointment a couple months down the road.

Anyway, sorry... I would be disappointed, too.

In that case that's a super shitty thing for her to do!
