What the male vs female sex chromosomes are? I am talking xx vs xy

I was shocked to find out my H who is incredibly intelligent wasn't sure what the sex chromosomes for males and females were. He is an engineer who disliked biology but I figured it was basic knowledge.

Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

    This is why I asked. Anyone who went through middle school biology learned it but not everything we learn becomes common knowledge (hello dates of battles in any war you than think of)

    While I didn't really like biology, genetics fascinated me and I ended up in a medical field so I clearly know this information.

    I also feel like it is used in common slang, usually in a semi derogatory way towards males so that it isn't like it just goes away.

    But I am quite possibly wrong and it's only the nature of my degree/ profession and my science interests that I know this information. I was just surprised last night by H

    Common knowledge. So many people use "shoot X's, shoot Y's" that I figured they knew what each pairing ultimately was.

    I definitely say common knowledge, but at this point in my career my view is totally skewed.

    Not common.  Most learned it in HS biology then promptly forgot.  I knew, but DH and all our parents, friends didn't.

    I remembered it in middle school because girls sign with X's and boys always ask "Y".

    Hmm, I assumed this was common knowledge (and that was my vote). Yes I learned this in biology class, but I know I've heard it elsewhere as well.

    As a science teacher I would hope its common knowledge, but I am also aware of reality. Most my students don't remember what we did last week.

    I voted common knowledge that women are xx and men are xy, but I still get confused when talking about differences between x sperm and y sperm and I still think it's crazy you can pick the sex of your baby if you really wanted.

    So, I clicked that it was basic knowledge, and then asked DH about it. He thought X chromosomes were male and y were female. So I stand corrected! I guess it is not as common of knowledge as I thought!

    I voted common knowledge. Then I asked H who agreed but when on to say, "what is common knowledge?" So I razzed him about getting philosophical and he replied with, "how many people have asked us if our boy/girl twins are identical?" Good point, husband, good point. Common knowledge really isn't so common.
