Temp Question

Re: Temp Question

  • Wow. Good thing we're having a February baby. Our AC bills just to keep the house under 76 are over $300 may-oct

  • I'm in LA, so take this with a grain of salt, though in Jan-March it can dip into the 20s at night, though I know that's laughable for a lot of you.  We don't run the central heat overnight - it's on a timer and runs until about 11, shuts off and then kicks on about 30 min before we get up for work.  It seems silly to me to heat the entire house so that 2 rooms are warm, but that's also probably largely based on where I live.

When DS was born (also a Feb baby), we had a space heater in our room and kept that at 65.  He slept in a sleeper and swaddled with an A+A blanket (and a hat for the first couple of weeks) and seemed fine.  I'm assuming we'll do the same thing this time around.

The next winter, he was in his own room and we put a space heater in there set at 70 since he was in a sleeper but no blankets.  We tried 65 but he seemed to sleep better at 70, so that's what we went with.  Once he started using blankets, we found that 65 was fine for him.

  • I live in Western New York, where it is routinely below freezing, and we keep our house at 67-68 during the day and 65 at night. What a bunch of wimps you guys are!! ;) Kidding. When Evie was a newborn we lived in a duplex that was easier and cheaper to keep warm, so we kept it at 69 at night. Now she sleeps just fine with blankets and whatnot. The nursery can get pretty cold in our current house since it technically has 3 outside walls, so we'll keep the heat bumped to 68 at night once the baby moves out of our bedroom. And of course, proper attire helps.

  • We have a timer on the thermostat. The highest it is, is 68 during getting ready in the morning and evening dinner time to bedtime. We have it at 60 through the night and during the day when no one is here. I find my kids just wear warm Jammies, and the baby will have a sleeper with the miracle blanket and a hat. We get sick a lot less with a cooler house.
