Moving during pregnancy?

So my husband and I are in the process of buying a house an moving about 45 minutes from where we currently live. I'm 3 months pregnant and hoping we get the house we want today! Putting an offer in, I'm so excited that this house is done, move in ready and I never imagine we'd live in such a nice place, but if we don't get our offer accepted we're left with a fixer upper! NOT looking foward to renovations while pregnant and the mess dust I've been there done that- NO fun! Not only that but I'm assuming ill have to change my doctor and the hospital where I would have given birth which is where I was born too. I think that's a little scary for me to change now.... any advice on moving while pregnant?

Re: Moving during pregnancy?

  • My BFF moved when she was 8 months pregnant. It wasn't any different than moving any other time. She didn't do any of the heavy lifting and stayed with the small boxes and organizing.

  • I moved when I was unknowingly four months pregnant.

Looking back I probably shouldn't have helped carry the dressers up the stairs. Oops.

  • My DH won't even let me carry the vaccuum right now, so moving while pregnant seems perfect.. It's a get out of heavy lifting card. Stand back and shout directives while drinking an iced tea!! ;)
  • 45 mins!!!! That's a dream. I'm moving to Australia with the SO and the dog in Feb/March. But eh!!!! No worries :) Find a house, get SO a job, new doctors before babes arrives.
    Too bloody easy :)

  • We will be moving around the 7.5-8 months pregnant mark come late March, early April. I am not worrying about it too much.. I will be about 30-35 minutes from the hospital versus the 15 minutes I am now. I think it will be fine for you to be 45 away, but always discuss with your doctor.

  • We will be moving anywhere around January-March. We moved in with my BIL in June to save money... We rent out the upstairs of his condo, and he lives in the basement. It's been great so far, but we want to be on our own with a baby. So, with timing of everything, it will be sometime late winter/early spring when we move... Which is gonna suck big time moving in my 3rd tri. But it has to happen regardless.

  • We just moved 30 mins from our old house and I moved to the old house when I was 8 months pregnant with DS. Only advice and tips are to take lots of breaks and get a lot of help. Have water on hand and get utilities turned on at the new house before you move in. Oh and don't lift heavy crap.
  • DO IT NOW!  I moved with a 6-week-old and it was the worst.

  • We are moving to another state (12 he drive) in two weeks. We will most likely move again (20+ hrs away) right before/right after baby is born. Ahhh military life! I'm not anxious about actually moving but I'm pretty sure pregnancy exhaustion has made me more irritable and lazy. I don't really like the fact that by the time baby is ready to come I could potentially have had 3 different doctors.

  • We are moving in December and I'm so excited! Moving 45 min closer to work to cut our commute. Now we are 45 min away from the hospital and doctor and it never worried me before.

I've been doing most of the packing and DH will be doing all the actual moving. I make sure not to lift anything heavy. I am getting the new recliner I ordered delivered to our new place, which makes me even more excited!

Best if luck OP, hope you get the house you want!

We are moving in January- me, DH, and 2 kids. Not sure I have any advice, but what I plan to do is pack a little at a time starting pretty soon. I'll pack summer clothes, then work my way through things we won't need for a couple months. Packing/moving is basically a form of torture as far as I'm concerned. I want to pay someone to come to my house and say "See ALL OF THIS? It needs to go to this address. See you there!" :)

edit to add- Last time we moved I was pregnant with DS2- we like to keep things complicated ;)

  • I'm moving when I'm 6 months pregnant a Ross the country but a month before I'm going to stay with family since I cnt help anyways then we have to move again after baby is 3 months old. Oh the joys of military life
  • It depends where you live. 45 min is a ridiculous commute where I live when you could easily switch docs/hospitals and be 10 min away instead. And with so many appointments that would be a no brainer to me.

We are closing on a house this Friday and I found a highly recommended pediatrician a block away. Fingers crossed that she's accepting new patients!

  • We are in the process of buying a house and moving within the next few weeks...and I haven't packed a single thing. Ugh! Moving is the worst!
  • I have to move when my finals are done for school, which less then a week from my EDD, so I'm not sure where I'm giving birth or if we're moving before or after baby. Plus my SO is going to start his new job there in April and find us a rental so I'm on my own to pack.
  • We moved across country last month and I was so worried about the heavy lifting (couldn't get out of it because it's just hubby and me). Midwife said so long as it's about to equivalent to lifting a small child, everything is fine. Women around the world have no choice but to lift heavy stuff and healthy babies arrive. Rest often, stay hydrated and all will be well.
  • I'm moving just over an hour away this Saturday. My mom is an amazing woman and offered to rent DH and i two rooms so we can save as much money as possible for the next year. I'll be switching family doc and OB. Luckily I kept my diabetes specialists when I moved out here a few years ago (before pregnancy I saw them every 3 months so it was no big deal... Good excuse to take a half day at work. Now it's every week). Start packing right away! I kept putting it off and now I'm overwhelmed.

Fx for you OP, hope you get the house you want!!

  • We just bought a house on Sunday, moving first week of December. Excited, but stressing out over the amount of stuff we have to get done.

I am looking forward to getting settled and starting to decorate the nursery though! It's keeping me motivated.
