Bleeding after abdominal u/s

I may be completely overreacting, but I wanted to post since Google and searching the Bump were not helpful. I had my NT scan this morning and the tech had to press really, really hard. As in, even using both hands to press as hard as she could a few times. It was very uncomfortable, but I assumed that it had to do with having a tilted uterus and a little extra weight, and she was having trouble getting the measurements she needed.

I've been cramping and achy on and off today since then, and just had a second instance of some pink/bright red bleeding when I went to the bathroom. It was minimal and I've had varying instances of spotting and/or bleeding since I got pregnant, so I'm not panicking. I'm a little concerned since that had tapered off in the past week or two, and came back with the mild cramping. I'd also never heard of this happening specifically with an abdominal u/s, but I'm not sure how often techs have to press quite as hard as this one did.

I'm hopeful that it's coincidental (as in, refusing to let myself panic after a great u/s this morning), but I wanted to see what you ladies thought. Is it worth a call to my OB tomorrow? Or should I just wait and monitor for the time being?

Re: Bleeding after abdominal u/s

  • I had red spotting the morning after my 14 week scan. They didn't even press hard or do an internal. I called my OB who was comfortable monitoring it since the baby looked good the day before and the bleeding had stopped. I would call to see what their advice is for your situation.

  • I have had very bad cramping after my abdominal ultrasounds. No bleeding thou, I would think it would be from the pressure. If your concerned , call. That's that they are there for!
  • Thanks ladies. It's a relief to hear that I'm not the only one that has experienced cramping and/or spotting. I'm feeling much better this morning so I may hold off on calling my doctor for now.

  • I would call your OB if you're worried. No need to just sit home and stress over it, maybe they can see you again.

  • I was a crampy mess after my NT. But...no bleeding. I say call your doctor if the bleeding worsens.
  • I think when cramping with bleeding are involved it's a good idea to give your doctor a call. Just explain the situation and that you feel fine with monitoring for now and not coming in but you wanted to check with them first.
