  I do not understand how someone who works in health care walks around believing and saying this. You are perpetuating a myth. It's worse than a lay person saying it because people think you are knowledgeable and believe you and then they don't get the flu shot.

  You beat me to this! The other saying that makes me want to rip my hair out is that you'll get a cold from going out in the cold. Hi, colds are from germs, not wet hair or being physically cold. That would be called hypothermia.

  @kateronium Maybe you seem to get the flu from the shot because you drag your feet getting it and when you finally are forced to get the shot it's the middle of flu/cold season. You can still get a cold or flu after the shot, but you are protected against the nastier flu strains out there this year, so if you get it it won't put you or your LO in the hospital. Like @breannekot said, how does someone that works in healthcare not get that?

  Let me just point out I was out on leave until a few days ago. I'm not in any way saying it's from the damn vaccine. Just saying it's coincidental. But thanks for your help anyways.

  But the way you said it... "roughly two weeks after I get the flu vaccine I get the flu" coupled with you having to be forced by your job to get the vaccine would lead the casual observer to believe that you think that there is a correlation between getting the vaccine and catching the flu. We can only comment on what we read.
  
  I'm on leave still. DH and I got our flu shots before DD was born and I brought DS in to his pedi for his flu shot. We're doing what we can to protect DD from the worst strains out there.

  If you're not saying it's from the vaccine, what's the issue with getting it again? After all, coincidental happenings are just that - coincidental...not the rule.

  Also to add to the flu shot thing... a lot of people confuse side effects with the flu... A side effect =/= getting the flu from the shot. While you can have minimal side effects, it's not the actual flu. You can't get the flu from a dead virus. Another thing, people who claim to get the flu from the shot either 1) caught a different strain than what the shot was protecting against,
  2) was exposed to the flu before the full immunities from the shot took place. It takes about 2 weeks for your body to build up those antibodies.
