Stupid question but what does heart burn feel like?

For me it feels like mid sternal burning .. Like my stomach is quite literally tryin to burn through my chest

The ladies described it pretty good. It feels like a burning kind of pain, right about where your heart is. It's worse for me if I'm lying down. I've never had it when I wasn't pregnant, so I can understand where you'd question what it is.

Like someone set my esophagus on fire.
It usually hurts from my throat down to my chest. I have invested in Zantac 150. With my son, I was popping tums like candy and ended up giving myself kidney stones.

For me, it builds up as pressure and burning underneath my diaphragm, so at the bottom of my esophagus, and sometimes it moves up a bit further from there. Just wanted to add that since mine is lower than most people's. The best way to know if it's heartburn, though, is just to take a Tums and see if it helps. Tums is just calcium and 100% safe in pregnancy, so it won't hurt anything even if it's not heartburn. But it probably is.

Tums wouldn't even touch my heartburn about a month ago. I started taking Zantac for a few weeks. Now I don't really have heartburn and if I do, it's very little. Doesn't keep me from sleeping anymore!

First pregnancy my heart burn also felt like a lump in my throat. Slight burning, and almost like you are trying to swallow something that won't go down. Luckily, tums helped. DH has crazy acid reflex and I remember sympathizing with him 'this is how you feel all the time? I would die!' Lol.

I think mine is acid reflux heartburn combo, but I feel a burning sensation from my chest to esophagus and pressure because it's harder to get burps out. It's sooo uncomfortable. My doc prescribed the max dose of Pepcid and my insurance covers it. Tums do nothing for me...

Not answering the question as you have many, just wanted to say not stupid at all especially if you've never experienced it. I had it for the first time ever last friday and had to ask my husband what it felt like bc I had no idea what was going on w me lol.

Yeah, like Rivers said, high levels can cause kidney stones. I don't want to scare everyone and make people swear off Tums forever--- I was seriously going through a bottle every other day. Every single thing I ate gave me heartburn, so I would follow each meal with a Tums (or three...)

I had never had heartburn before being pg. I remember sitting at my desk and thinking I feel like my heart is on fire. It hurts. Like my heart is burning. Only then did it click. I told my H I finally get what you are always complaining about.

I think the max dose for Tums is like 2 per day. Once I began taking over the max dose, I knew I had a problem. My doc told me to try Zantac or Pepcid AC. What a life saver! I was getting heartburn every night, and acid reflux was making me vomit, but now I pop a Zantac as soon as I feel it coming on and have NO problems.

It didn't hurt or burn too badly but I was really uncomfortable and kept burping which isn't super normal for me.

And I kept feeling like I had eaten something that wouldn't go down, like it was stuck in my throat still. Wasn't awesome.

It's not a stupid question. I've had it since I was a kid and had no idea that it was hearburn/reflux until I was in my 20s and my professor described it in chemistry class. To me it never felt like a burning--more of a welling up of serious discomfort, almost tightness, in my chest and throat, and more my throat than my chest, that would come and go in waves. I get heartburn from eating dairy (according to google, it seems I have an intolerance to casein), and when I was a kid I would complain to my mom that my throat hurt when I ate cheese. No one guessed heartburn, but tums or any other antacid clears it up immediately, so heartburn it is.

Insanely enough, when I'm pregnant it goes away and I can eat as much dairy as I want.

I never had it before becoming pregnant with my first. For me I never felt it in my chest, it was always in my throat. It felt like a warm/burning sensation in the back of my throat. I spent millions of $$$ on Tums and Papaya enzyme. Both temporary fixes but enough to get me through. Also when it was really bad, I slept basically sitting up.
