Are we crazy?

So I've been looking for a new job for a few months now had a few interviews but that's it. H works in construction and has always wanted to be come a police officer, however he has a hurt wrist and back at the moment and is worried he won't be able to get on or will hurt himself shortly after. He hates his job now and has 0 benefits. He decided to start looking at jobs! So now we are both looking for new jobs. Are we crazy for both trying to make such big moves at the same time? There are way more jobs out there for him right now versus me and the jobs he's looking at would pay way better so he could end up bringing home by himself what we jointly bring home now, or more. So if things got bad at least he would be making enough for me to stay home for a short time while I still looked for another job. My job isn't firing me but basically I need to find a new job ASAP because they can't afford to pay me much longer. It feels like such a big and crazy ordeal right smack in the middle of the holidays. So tell me the truth crazy or no?

    If your husband was carrying the benefits I'd say yes, crazy. However, as long as he doesn't leave his job before finding something else, I think it'll be fine. He will still be providing a paycheck which is what he is doing now. With you on the other hand, it sounds like you don't have much of an option but to look for another job now and the timing isn't really up to you. No one says that you'll both land something right away either so it doesn't hurt for him to look around. Good luck with whatever you guys decide.

    Neither of us have benefits at our job. H is currently contract labor and my job only has 4 employees. We pay for all our insurance and everything out of pocket.

    That's what I'm saying. Technically, there really is no reason for h not to look for a job. Its not like he would lose his benefits. Right now, it sounds like the only thing his job is providing is a paycheck. Therefore, if he finds something else, he's not losing anything especially if he brings home more money. I say go for it!

    Maybe you could collect for a couple months while you look. It might take some of the pressure off. And really that's what unemployment was intended for...to subsidize income between jobs. But I tend to think things work out so go for it!

    as long as you're not in the market for a new house or other major loan. they look at your employment history, and if you both have new jobs recently, they can question your income.

    the way I see it is if you aren't happy with what you're doing (your H) it's never too late to do something else that makes you happy!

    @Lia1303‌ that has been on my mind a lot. Currently DS comes to work with me, it's one of the perks/benefits I do get. My mom and my step mom have agreed to work together to watch him so he doesn't go to daycare and we don't have to worry about that extra expense. I'm so sad about leaving him but it's not like I have a choice we can't afford for me to stay at home at least not at this moment.

    I don't think it's crazy. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do even if the timing is not ideal. We bought a new house literally the day after I gave birth to twins. Crazy? Maybe, but our old rental wasn't suitable and we love it here now. I say go for it and good luck!
