It's sort of subjective. I'd ask your doctor what they want you to cut out.
Hair coloring in 1st tri, less than 200 mg caffeine a day, no ibuprofin...that kind of thing. Each OB seems to vary a bit in what they are more lenient with.
You can pry my turkey sub from my cold, dead fingers. Listeria poisoning is more of a concern with improperly washed fruits and veggies anyway. Buy food from places you trust and wash your fruits and veggies appropriately and there should be no problem.
Pretty sure I've consumed about 2 lbs of turkey subs and sandwiches since I've been pregnant. OMG turkey sub with chipotle mayo and cheddar cheese right now... ^:)^

I really wish pregnancy books would get with the times and acknowledge this. I have actually listened to lectures from brilliant physicians on why pregnant women should avoid sandwich meat. *face palm.*
The only thing I am avoiding is smoking /second hand smoke and drinking in the first trimester

That sounds great. I won't be 12 weeks until after Christmas so virgin egg nog for me

I miss beer. My last one was a fairly hoppy American IPA on the night before my BFP.
Still haven't really had any symptoms. Only thing I am dealing with is that I keep getting woken up around 2am each morning with severe cramps that last about 15 mins. Needless to say, its all catching up with me and not being able to drink coffee is killing me!
EDIT:: ....definitely thought I was in Tuesday symptoms thread....guess pregnancy brain is catching up to me!

I *may* have waited to POS until Sunday so I could enjoy that one delicious smoked porter on Saturday night. It was freaking amazing.

You can drink a cup of coffee if you need it! Just stay under 200mg of caffeine per day. I would still be drinking coffee if it weren't for how nauseous the smell of it makes me.
Okay how horrible is this, I am so due to get my hair coloured and the thought of waiting another 8 weeks is making me a little sad hahaha.
I am with you. I didn't color it before conceiving cause I didn't want to poison my uterus lol. I did not suspect that we were going to conceive right away....and here I am with dark roots showing through red hair...not a pretty sight.

How do you avoid douchey know it all moms when you consume something that is deemed "unhealthy/dangerous" for baby? Eat or drink it when no one is looking?
MY doctor also told me: no lifting, pulling, or pushing anything over 20 lbs. no hot baths, no harsh chemicals when cleaning the house, limit physical activity during the first trimester, and go light on intimacy with DH. Alway lie down the moment you feel cramping or when spotting to eliminate mother factor from a possible complication.

You can be nice and let them know that your doc have ok'd it. Usually they won't argue that. Oooor, you can take the route everyone really wants to take and tell her to shove it. I'm constantly telling people to not tell what to do. Especially when the cafe lady is eyeballin me for enjoying my cooked sushi. EF right off, lady.
Subway has been my go to for cravings I love my turkey subs, its a super easy and healthy lunch choice for me, just be sure that its toasted. I also need my morning Coffee, 12 hour shifts are hard without it. I tried to cut back on the caffeine prior to my BFP and that helped but my SIL told me a secret, use a 12oz cup half cappuccino + half decaf. Its just enough to give you a kick and also enough that its safe for you and baby unless you have any other health concerns but confirm with your doc. (I only work 3 days a week therefore only drink coffee 3 days a week) For me its a mind over matter thing, I need something sweet and warm in my hand to kick start my day at work, on my days off I love me some hot chocolate either with peppermint or pumpkin spice!! Get creative!!

Yup, this. I'm eating lunchmeat just as much as I did before I found out I was pregnant. I'm big on sandwiches...
When I told my mom I was pregnant this was her advice...don't lift anything. That's it. Nothing else. That must have been the only thing they told her when she was pregnant back in the late 70's early 80's. My have times changed.
You can totally get your hair colored , it's not going to hurt the baby . The only thing is you might have a weird reaction to the color because of the changes in your body , not harmful at all tho .
You are allowed to have lunch meat but you have to warm it up until it's smoking hot to kill the bacteria. I've been kinda forgetting that I can't lift heavy things until DP reminds me
You are allowed to have lunch meat but you have to warm it up until it's smoking hot to kill the bacteria. I've been kinda forgetting that I can't lift heavy things until DP reminds me
Lunch meat is fine cold. Just don't go to a back alley butcher
With my first kiddo, I used to sneak out of work and devour Turkey subs away from the judgy eyes of my (also pregnant) co-worker. She was the poster child for all the rules.
My now 5 year old bounces off the walls and never stops moving. I'm sure she would blame that on lying about my decaf coffee.
Definitely scrubbed my counters with bleach the other day for a good 20 minutes before I realized I was pregnant and the fumes might not be a good idea. Now I'm paranoid something bad is going to happen...
This is why I'm starting to think this is all bullshit. My first appt isnt until I'm 7 weeks 3 days. Some people here don't go for their first appt until 10 or 12 or even 14 weeks. If there are so many dangerous things for us to avoid, why wouldn't they want to see us well before to make sure we know to avoid them. Maybe they assume we would research or ask other women questions, but it seems there are always differences in opinions. I was told nothing when I called to make the appt., just be here on this day, at this time and make sure to update your health forms on their website. Done. Nothing else.

This makes me sad for you. I am pretty sure I actively ignore all of these other than the chemical one. My kids are 25 and 35 lbs, i lift them both at the same time regularly. Super hot showers are my lyfe. I work out. etc.
@sandybananas - I had a loss last January at 11 weeks and 3 days. It was a picture perfect pregnancy till then. After a shit load of tests and an autopsy of the baby the doctors still don't know what happened. This time they want me to be super cautious. Besides- there might be a genetic factor to it. My mother was on bed rest both of her pregnancies. Who knows...at this point I don't do anything that would make be break a sweat.

My RE said coloring my hair was fine during the first trimester (and any trimester actually). I just got my hair done over the weekend. She said the only thing is that because of all the hormones the color could turn out different than normal, which seems to ring true as I always do the same colors and they are MUCH brighter this time.

I (at like 38 weeks) was told you shouldn't be eating soft-serve ice cream, after I had been eating the SHIT out of soft serve ice cream, oops...
My son was born in September and I had a soft serve ice cream truck rolling by my house from June to August that summer. I ate an ice cream cone 5-6 days of the week that summer. It. Was. Glorious.
As for all the warnings. I don't know, maybe because it is my second, I am so nonchalant about it all. I have a ridiculously happy and healthy kid. I had a glass of wine here and there. I drank coffee, I had runny eggs, I ate off a salad bar. I even ate sushi - GASP!!! I plan on doing the same things with this pregnancy. One of my biggest regrets was NOT getting a pedicure every so often because I was worried. Fair warning FTM, the end of 2nd tri and all of 3rd tri can be physically HARD. Pamper yourself. Get a pedi.
As for the no heavy lifting. There is no way around that one for me. My 2 year old is 41lbs. and still sleeps in a crib. Having to pick him up doesn't worry me one bit.
BFP 1/24/2012 - DS Born 9/22/2012 (11 days early!)
@Cassiek90@beepity Add me to the no coffee club. Even the thought of drinking a cup has been turning my stomach for almost a week!
Me too. I'm usually a coffee drinking fool and it's just weird for me to not make a pot in the mornings. I can't even handle hot tea right now. --- Me either! Even ginger and peppermint teas seem to make me more nauseous. This is just a great time of year to be dealing with food and hot beverage aversions.
I'm one of those annoying avoid-everything-that-makes-life-worth-living Moms because I've had 2 losses early in pregnancy and had done the supposed no-no's like dying my hair, drinking caffeine, lifting heavy etc. Now I've got pitch black roots and I'm a decaf zombie but it's worth the peace of mind to know I'm doing EVERYTHING I can to get a different outcome this time.
Edited because is that the appropriate spelling of "peace"?
